I absolutely love M1ke + The Mechan1c5. The old lineup from the 80’s until the early 90’s was just pure magic and untouchable. It took me years, literally years to accept the current lineup, but I did. And when I did, I realized it’s the same great quality writing and music, it’s just their sound has changed to fit the modern times.
Really love this track...... roachford's vocals work really well on this one. Mike & the Mechanics are such a brilliant band and keep on producing the hits. 👍

Not one song from Smallcreep’s Day. Illustrates Mike can’t write anymore and has to rest on his laurels of past glory. He’s dried up and is recycling ideas even on the last MATM album. This is pop music curated for the radio. Four on the floor, no interesting bridges. Even Sting and Phil have mined other genres. Mike will be doing country next if he tries to push the envelope. Too long on the guitar. Proof? Listen to the drums. The singer is awesome. He’s only got one delivery style though. Noel McCalla was looking to cover some Smallcreep’s Day a few years ago. Mike’s too busy playing polo. No offence, it’d just be nice to see its not so obvious Mike has the same ego and he’s lost the kahona’s in the songwriting department. It also illustrates where the soft rock influences came from in 80’s/90’s Genesis since Tony has always been the biggest contributor to Genesis songwriting. Prefer the original to the covers and re-do. At least Hackett tries different genres and has recorded/written exponentially more. And collaborated with far more musicians reliving the early Genesis. Peter pushes the envelope too. Mike’s too comfy in the 21st century. And I wouldn’t shy away from telling him face to face. Phil’s being honest lately. Peter is cordial and Tony is proper stiff upper lip like Mike. Mike is not a bad person as he does his part for charity. Sad how his creative juices have mellowed to the point he can’t take risks with songwriting. It’s not like his past has totally left him. Maybe the pre-90’s Genesis is a bad memory. I was done with Genesis by 1988. Haven’t even bothered to try to listen to the albums. Some of these songs sound like Bruce Hornsby. Last album sounds dated even though it’s four years old.
