This song has haunted me for decades. I was drawn to it but didn't understand why until now. We are living the reality of Silent Running. God speed to all Patriots worldwide who are working together to defeat the evil on and in planet earth forever!
This song is absolutely frightening! If you can't see what's coming you must be blind. Someone once said, "Losing our freedom is only one generation away." The fabric of our society, our culture, our customs, our history are crumbling right before our eyes. This song is about a father looking down on his family from heaven as he has already given his life for the freedom we take for granted. If we don't unite to stop this cancer, our civilization will soon be nothing more than a footnote in a history book. What a prophetic song!
Bring it Traitor Joe along with all your tyrannical sycophants!! You are all on the wrong side of history, but you are too drunk with power and greed to see😮
I am afraid you are 100 per cent wrong, this song IS about revolution, they have told you that you have freedom and you believe it. Read some or our history and you will find otherwise. Even today thare are 13 MILLION American children STARVING in the US, is that freedom? Not from hunger. How about the 90,000 governments that rule you in the USA, brainwash you, and keep you in your place while our owners have the good life? This song is about change, change for the better, change for the people not for the ones that have it all.
@@vanessakammerer5602 Does god keep 13 MILLION AMERICAN CHILDREN STARVING IN THE USA? HOW ABOUT ALL OF THE CHILDREN DYING ALL OVER THE WORLD EVERY DAY? WHAT KIND OF FAIRY TALE GOD IS THAT?
Ahhh Silent running, This song used to give me goosebumps as a child in the 80's. Now I realize why. Teach your children quietly folks, freedom depends on it. Peace & Godspeed!
I remember back in '85 when this was first released that this song was written in the future and brought to the present. Now it's the future and the world feels as tenuous as this tune implies.
@@jessicafallen9778 at least you've got your youth! And you can still see the cool films and listen to the music.. Best wishes to you from Rolland at Castle Hassall
Hi Cousin?...., I’m on the Ensign william Campbell Farm, VA Militia, 1776-1782, .....listening to this song, thinking about the words and the warning that goes with them!🇺🇸
This song was never your average pop song. It stood out from the standard fare, feeling more real, more authentic, more related to real life, Great singing and fantastic composition. Now it's more profound than ever.
Absolutely spot on. Is it any wonder their are record gun sales? All due to the insanity of the left trying to destroy us from within. Nope. We fight back, hard.
This has to be one of the most thought provoking and yet deeply disturbing songs ever written. It Chills me to the bone every time I listen to it as I realise how thin the fabric of the reality we live in really is and how quickly it could crumble to the point where you need to hide in a cellar and have a gun and ammunition by your front door.
And now they are trying hard to take those guns away. The UN is the one pushing it and now they pass international law limiting one to 25 rounds and if caught with more if anything breaks out they are war criminals! I don’t like Trump as a person but some things I agree with him more than 100% and one was not playing nice with the UN.
@@nanceejay3507 be happy. Be happy to be a part of this. This is an event that they will talk about for generations. I believe the outcome will have been worth all the pain.
Paul Carrack is a very, very under rated musician. I still remember his first song, " How Long " in 1974 I was about 9 or 10. I absolutely love this man, he does have a golden voice.
Best years of my life, as it turns out. And due in no small part to the music being cranked out while I grew my family, grew my career, and enjoyed almost every one of my American countrymen pulling on the same oar in unity of purpose. How far we've fallen.
It's coming people, it's coming. I thought I was such a strong believer, I once thought I couldn't be shaken, but it's 2023 and things are only getting worse. I spend a lot more time talking to the Lord GOD Almighty to just give me the strength to not falter. I loved this song the first time I heard it, and it never grows old.
@@bigmike4962 what is wrong with you? the Democrats are the party destroying this country! are you better off now than you were 3 years ago? NO! who lied about the Steele dossier? Democrats! who is letting millions of illegal aliens into the U.S.? Democrats! what party thinks men can be women, if they want? Democrats! who convicted Trump on bogus charges? Democrats! you are delusional if you think this administration has done a good job! this is all planned to turn the U.S. into a socialistic country, like Cuba, Venezuela & North Korea.
It was literally just a side gig for all involved , a Supergroup like Asia, The Wilburys and many more, they just wanted to make different music than their other groups
I worked in radio when this song came out. I understood what the lyrics meant perfectly. Never thought it would come true like it has the past few years.
I remember hearing this Great Tune on the radio for the first time on a January Night in 1986 with my girlfriend . We were both 23 years old . All we said was “ Whooooa ! “ Wow ! That’s a great song ! Today 2020 , It stills sounds Great ! 🤘😎👍📀🎸🎶🍻🍻🍻🍻
I just turned 74 years old. When I first heard this song in the eighties the mood reminded me very much of Bowies' Diamond Dogs. A description of a dystopian world which I knew would eventually arrive, but not for a long, long time. I never imagined that I would see the day when I kept a gun and ammunition just inside my doorway. Fear God. He is our only hope.
When I was a child this song first came out it gave me chillbumps, I remember listening to the radio trying to catch this song to record it on a compilation cassette player. I had the tape on pause. I was standing on a wooden chair in the living room hanging something on the wall and the song came on and I was so excited I went to get down and I slipped, as I was falling I got the pause button nearly killing myself, but I finally caught the tune. It was remarkable...
I wonder if it was that magical sound of the synth? The song had the same effect on me and it was in one of my dreams. My dad maybe turned the radio on early one morning when I was still sleeping. I dreamt I was stuck on the moon and I was.calling out 'can you hear me...'
Its 2022... America and Canada....our citizens must unite. LETS KEEP OUR PRECIOUS NORTHERN CONTINENT. THIS SONG SAYS WHAT WE ALL FEEL... ITS COMING. CAN YOU HEAR ME.
This song means more Today than it ever has!!! I Never listened to the lyrics very closely when this song first came out in the 80's ,but Rutherford is obviously a very, very wise man.
Only underrated because these guys were part of Phil Collins's original band, Genesis. Mike Rutherford formed this band to fill in time while Collins pursued his solo interests.
Still makes the hairs stand up on my neck some 15 years since this song was recorded, the man with the Golden Voice (Carrack) is simply awesome...........there is no one better!!
A latter day For What It's Worth by the Buffalo Springfield...from MY era back in 1967....both great songs for their times and BOTH relevant to today...Facism in the U.S. on the rise....
Silent Running ~ Mike + The Mechanics Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? Take the children and yourself And hide out in the cellar By now the fighting will be close at hand Don't believe the church and state And everything they tell you Believe in me, I'm with the high command Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? There's a gun and ammunition Just inside the doorway Use it only in emergency Better you should pray to God The Father and the Spirit Will guide you and protect from up here Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? Swear allegiance to the flag Whatever flag they offer Never hint at what you really feel Teach the children quietly For some day sons and daughters Will rise up and fight while we stood still Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? Can you hear me, can you hear me running? Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you? Can you hear me running (can you hear me calling you?) (Can you hear me) hear me calling you? (Can you hear me running) hear me running babe? (Can you hear me running) hear me running? Calling you, calling you Written by: Mike Rutherford (gb), B.a. Robertson Album: Mike + The Mechanics Released: 1985 Lyrics provided by Musixmatch
It's now January 10, 2021. We're here now. For those of us who are gen X, we were not listening and we did nothing. Now look where we are. Teach your children quietly, for one day our sons and daughters will rise up and fight while we stood still. We. Are. Here.
It all depends upon your perspective. That of an American or as a Global citizen? While you may relate the song to events that tie Americans to a thought process that leads to a downward spiral, the citizens of Rwanda, India, Bangladesh and many others are seeing their GDP and lives improved substantially.
These men 'knew something.'🤔 I'm convinced. And "don't believe the church and state and everything they tell you?" That's gotta be the REALEST truth ever.
Oh, I forgot to mention ...THANK YOU GENTLEMEN for being a phenomenal band that will leave a mark in the music industry regarding how lyricism, melody, harmony, and vocal intonation is suppose to be! Not this quick million dollar fashion industry that produces joke musicians!! Again, THANK YOU!!!
I think you will find that the music your hearing is NOT all live. What the musicians on stage are playing is ALL LIVE but who is playing bass and who is playing the high keyboard line with the pitch bend and delay on it?....It is certainly not Paul Carrick(keyboard and lead vocals) or Mike Rutherford(electric guitar). It is still a brilliant version and the music that IS live is superb. But i think you will find that the drummer is playing to a click track and there is a keyboard bass in there along with OTHER keyboard lines to complete the sound. They would have needed another 2 live keyboardists to do it ALL live.A brilliant song and brilliant performances by the musicians but DEFINITELY a backing track as well.....UPDATE....Here is a fully LIVE performance(very recent....from a month ago)Different Band Lineup.......Still has mike rutherford from genesis of course(Otherwise it couldnt be MIKE and the mechanics)This time only mike on guitar......2 keyboard players(no Paul carrick) and a Bass Player.......The version HERE probably sounds better than the LATEST one in some ways(The keyboard parts are MORE ACCURATE as the ones on the backing tracks are possibly from the original recording and pretty well sound SPOT on).......But UNLIKE this version IT IS ALL LIVE............ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OVlnwwAOOT4.html
The Fragility of Life and Mother Earth are so ever present!Good and Evil! I thank God for how wonderful my parents both were!On the side of God and his Heveanly Light I will strive to make a Positive mark on this world of ours!
I believe this song was written from a note meant for his family. It was found on a civil war soldier's body. Please correct me if I'm wrong. When I heard this I understood the urgency in the music. Perfect song. Always gave me goosebumps.
Anyone can draw their interpretations of the message or meaning behind this song. My personal introduction and experience to this band was having one of my friends talk me into attending a concert after I had been literally overindulging in many things and all I wanted to do was sleep. Yet he convinced me to go see Mike & The Mechanics . The venue that they performed at was originally acoustically designed for classical concert music. So it was a warm evening in the summer in California the perfect location for an outdoor concert .I can only describe the experience that I had that evening when this band performed this song. I never heard anything live by any other band that sounded almost like it was coming from the heavens it was majestic and magnificent.
All over the world there are people from every walk of life ...see what is coming on this earth ...in late Fall of ‘85 this was foretelling the times we are in now
Mike R must be the coolest and the most versatile guitarist of our age. Laid back and still contributing the most delicate fills and intros. In collaboration with Carrack it's a marriage made in music heaven.
Heard this back in the 80s and thought it was a dark song with a dark message. Thought nothing and forgot the song until i heard it again a few years ago. It blew me off my feet. Its written for today and whats coming. Visionary.
I had to find a song with a historical/social message in it for school, and I stumbled across this. I absolutely love it. I haven't been able to get it out of my head and just love the music and lyrics that they put together. This is real music in my opinion.
Wow...song speaks so much..with all going on in..2023..let's all pray we all get thru this..Yes...Can you here me running..Can you here me call you..!! 😔🙏
I was born in the early 70s but yes we are absolutely living this now for sure loved this song my advice is go research who is ruling this world 🌎 don’t be shocked it is what it is nothing new under the sun 🌞 just go deal and you will find out time to Rize up yes it is
Absolutely brilliant lyrics and oh, so true! Remember, always, we the people are the majority, we simply have to resolve to work together with one common goal: Work together and agree to resolve the petty differences upon achieving victory!!👍❤️👍
I wonder how many of us thought that, all those decades ago, songs like Silent Running and Who'll Stop the Rain were actually clarion calls for the future. It wasn't just rock 'n roll after all... not when we objectively view what's been occurring, and still is more than ever, on multiple fronts. From George Orwell's 1984 - "If you want to see a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face... forever."
