seeing ohtani two years later being as successful as he is is so wholesome. he seems like such a down to earth guy, really just seems like a big goofy kid in this video and so polite and nice. i wish nothing but successful for this man
Seeing him even more successful 2 years later than you is even crazier. Shame what his interpreter got tangled in though. If it's even Ippei's problem to begin with and he's not just a scapegoat
There’s Japanese tv coverage following Ippei (Ohtani “personal interpreter”) daily schedule. His workload actually more than just interpreting for Ohtani. He is in charge as main contact person for Japanaese media and also scheduling media coverage for Ohtani by Japanese media, monitoring Ohtani physical and fitness data from training and games, he is also in charge of managing sponsorships from Japanese brands to Ohtani, and many more daily task outside of interpreting and translating. Because of the time difference between Japan and US, these daily workload becomes more demanding since most of the contacts, phone calls, and sponsorship documents or legal contracts from Japan coming late at night almost every day. Definitely deserved that income.
@@johnlyly7142 Ohtani is one of the most endorsed athletes in the world owing to being a star in 2 very large markets (USA and Japan). He makes probably 25-30 million in endorsements a year. His contract is only about 5mill a year because he kinda took a paycut to go the Angels, but when he comes up for extension this offseason or next offseason he will probably make around 45million a year from that. So a considerable amount.
@@willieraus2919 lol I dont think they were trying to set him up with her more they wanted to tease him for being single by both Trout and Calhoun are married but idk that's my take on it
3:08 one of the reasons why I love Shohei and Japanese culture. First thing he does is pass the food to translator not have it himself. What a fricking legend! He is gonna MLB famous again
Ohtani speaks and understands English perfectly... he just pretends he needs help so his boy keeps making that 7 figure 😏income. He is also very good at dance dance revolution.
Lol. A lot of international players use translators because English doesn’t translate exactly to other languages so the context can be misunderstood easily. (Esp with word choices)
@@beepbeep670 Japanese etiquette. Ohtani is Japanese. Don't lump all asians together. Chinese & Koreans are not well known for being polite or civil, are they? Is there such a thing as European etiquette? What an idiot 🤣
I love when they go for the pit beef and shohei smiles and hands a quarter of the sandwich to the man farthest down the line. You can tell he is a truly generous and genuine guy. I really appreciate seeing that in people I think are some of the greats not only on the field but off as well. ❤️ lots of love to the angels organization, they’re a good one
@saigonbond apparently outside of USA means they don't know how to use google conversions. Not that I am American. 🙄 At least I dont use that excuse lol.
To be fair, Japanese LOVE food, they're the foodies of the world so most likely he's loving it. I mean, Mexican food was the craze for a couple of years in Japan and still remains popular.
I would love to see Shohei take Trout over to some Tokyo sushi bar and turn the tables on the awkward language barrier. Gee, watch who suddenly becomes the shy guy.
I’m a lifelong A’s, but I’ve loved Trout and Ohtani since they slashed their way into the SHOW. Both guys soooo humble and respectful…..AND talented. I hope Shohei can stay healthy to continue to pitch and hit for the rest of his career!
2:32 Carolyn: Are you eating down there Ippei? Ohtani : 食べてない (Ippei has not eaten) Ippei: (I'm not translating that) ** No body else noticed what Ohtani said Ohtani and Ippei: LOL (2:42) Ohtani perfectly understanding what they were talking about lol
Edward Sarrain I would expect that in dodger stadium given that they have more Hispanic fans and they are more in the LA area than say OC in angels stadium
Shohei Said Omurice (Not Omlette)... It's completely different, but I guess the translator didn't want to explain. It's an omlette on top of fried seasoned rice with ketchup on top. Sooo good!
@@user-vs3uu7mk5f I think he means that Japanese people are viewed as acting more polite and respectful during interviews and public events, where as Americans don't usually hold themselves back and sometimes can be brass or loud. Just a cultural difference, but Ohtani is a great guy and I'm glad he is having so much success!
As an Indians fan, I LOVE watching everything about Ohtani. I wish he spoke more English, it would make him so much more loved by the masses. I know its not easy, I cant even imagine trying to learn Japanese! Dang!! Thats what i love about baseball though. You can be quiet heroes and legends! As a side note, that food looks amazing. As the saying goes never trust a skinny chef!
I haven't even been a baseball fan in years. I live in Houston. Die hard Killer B's fan. Didn't even watch the WS the Stros won. Shotime makes me love watching Angels highlights. I am a HUGE fan of what this young man is doing.
