Saw Mike at a talent showcase for college activities coordinators about 40 years ago. This tall, lanky long red haired hippie dude walks out and alone fills the big hall with his beautiful baritone and twleve string guitar music. Been revisiting music by John Hartford and John Prime and it brought his voice back to mind. But I've spent the past three days desperately trying to remember his name!! Looking through a Google list of song writers from Texas, I hit the "W's" and saw Hank WILLIAMS, and it dawned on me..MIKE WILLIAMS!!! I'm delighted to find his album on You Tube and reminisce about those times sitting on my front porch. Thank you!

This brings back such wonderful memories for me, when Mike used to come to Wichita Falls in the late 70s and play at the Midwestern State University student center, where my future ex-husband was the entertainment guy (thanks for finding this, Dale!) And Nanci Griffith's background vocals are just the icing on the cake! RIP Nanci. Any chance anyone has a recording of Mike's song about a man talking to his little sister's future husband? I can't remember its exact name, but it was so beautiful and has a special meaning for me. I haven't heard it for 0ver 40 years, except in my memory. Thanks, chrisco kid, for this!

So happy to finally find Mike on youtube. Saw him at Texas Tech University back in 1978 with Nanci Griffith. Bought both of his albumns, transferred them to cassette tapes, but would love to get his stuff on CDs. Moved to Montana in 1979 but his music takes me back to deep roots in Texas. Nothing beats a minstrel with a 12 string! Especially one with such a sense of humor! Thanks for the memories

East Carolina, 1979 for me... but no Nanci.

MIke used to come play at South Dakota School of Mines in the Black HIlls. Saw him live in 82. He was driving a Volvo with about a billion miles on it. I still have the albums but haven't played them for decades. This is the first I've listened to him for 25+ years... but still have all songs memorized... Crazy.

Circa 1985, Augusta College, Augusta GA. He played on the quad and I bought the record which is long lost. I fell in love with Texas and all of its back road little band music. I looked all over for this in recent years so Thank You So Much for posting it.

Thank you for adding this album! I've been trying unsuccessfully to find this and The Radio Show on CD but have been unsuccessful!

Any chance you could get your Dad to put some MP3 albums out somewhere? I would buy them. I lost my collection of his albums through the years and miles.

You must be one of the young'uns to whom he wrote "Daddy's Gone to Texas"! I'm so blessed that he made it down to the Lone Star State where I saw him at a college gig with Nanci Griffith back in Lubbock 1978... yep, celebrated my 70th birthday this year :) I've played his songs from the back roads of West Texas all the way to Jasper, British Columbia. Settled in Montana 40 years ago, but still love his music (I grew up to and grew old with) from my Texas youth. Hope your Dad is still healthy and happy with that mile wide smile! Thank you and your mom for sharing him with his fans. His performances were a "HOOT"!

Wow to knowing he is still around. Is it possible to get CD's like BF Deal? Remember his fans come from pre-digital time.

This is awesome! I saw him originally at least twice in Chadron, Nebraska, and once in Rapid City, SD at SDSM&T. I own this on vinyl, and one other. Kudos to you for posting this!

I interviewed Mike Williams for the college newspaper when he played at UW-Stevens Point in the early 70's. Still use the first line of his "resume"... "I was born at an early age..." Love the Free Man Happy Man album! Don't know where he is now unfortunately.

That is indeed his facebook page, tho I have no idea how often he checks it. I'm one of his nephews living in Arizona. Mike now lives back in Nashville and is "retired" as any musician ever is ... is my guess. I'm sure he still writes music... but I have no idea how recently his last recording was. I dont' see him as much as I would like.

Was kind of cool , saw him watching Nanci Griffith from the back at Kerrville. Knowing their history made it seem a little bittersweet. Nanci would have never been Nanci without the start she got from Mike and BF Deal !
