Good, honest reaction. LOVEBITES describe themselves as a Heavy Metal band, and their main influences come from a time when metal hadn’t been sub divided into infinite sub genres. That means that their catalogue of 56 tracks (to date) has very few tracks that sound similar to another in the catalogue. I can think of perhaps 5 or 6 in total that could, at most, be “paired off” with each other, but their overall output is extremely wide ranging. They also have never once included a song which you might consider an album filler. I’m not saying this because I’m a huge supporter of the band, but I’m a huge supporter of the band *BECAUSE* I can say with complete sincerity that they have no sub par, weak or poor tracks. It is a strange phenomenon watching reaction channels as they progress through song after song as each successive song becomes their new “favourite” LOVEBITES song. Whilst every music video they have released has matched their compositions, in terms of quality, the band themselves will tell you that no LOVEBITES song is ever properly “complete” until they have played it live. So, as the suggestions flood in, many will be of live performances and quite a few will be 12 months old at the most because they have released back to back live recordings of two nights in Tokyo last March. You don’t need to worry about which song to pick…you’ll like it. And it will probably become your new favourite. I’m 64 years old and can honestly say that LOVEBITES is easily the most complete, unblemished band that I have ever heard and seen.

I’m not a big genre guy, but LOVEBITES rarely strays from power and thrash metal. They play those genres well, but their newest album didn’t hold any surprises. That said, LB is still one of my favorite groups. They’ve stepped up their game live, they’re highly skilled, and as far as I can tell, they have endearing personalities. LB only has one song I don’t like, but it’s one no one seems to react to and no one ever mentions, so no worries there.

Congratulations, you just found the most talented metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they waited out the pandemic and searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. You just watched the first song they dropped from that album. They did their first live performances in more than two years in summer of 2023, with their new bassist Fami. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing. In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. Amazing band, my favorite band. Miyako (black hair) and Midori (blonde hair) are the best dual lead guitarists I have ever heard in over 50 years of listening to metal. Haruna the drummer is a beast, Fami is an amazing bassist, and Asami's vocals are powerful. In this video each plays two instruments, one on the light side and one on the dark side of the video. Thank you for reacting to one of the most musically talented metal bands on the planet. They simply don't have a bad song in their ~60 song catalogue. How many (if any) other bands, including legendary bands, can you honestly say don't have at least a couple of album-filler songs somewhere in their catalogue? If Power Metal isn't your favourite genre, perhaps try one of their thrash songs. So I am a power metal fan, this is the second Lovebites song I ever hear, and on paper I should love it. Amazing instrumentation and an overall epic feel, I don't know what exactly it is about their music (so far) that stops me from enjoying it more. I am hearing a lot of Stratovarius influences, which is great, I love Stratovarius (and Sonata Arctica, too) - so it's not that. I am open to listening to more, but I am skeptical if I will ever like it fully. I think the confusion with the guitars comes from the musicians using different instruments in the two different sets, because I think I saw two basses as well.
