** Warning ** The CRS1XX Series routers setup in a very different way from the 3XX. Hardware offloading cant be achieved by Bridge vlans. If your not familiar with Hardware offloading on the 1XX series switches this isnt for you.
Wisps need good dual voltage POE switches. A quick solution is the Mikrotik CRS 1128P 4S. This switch may not support VH ( 4 pair power ) but can be easily adapted to suit the needs of most small to medium pops. The unit has 8 poe ports and supports passive 24/48V.
In this video Ill show you the power setup & Basic vlan programming.

Very interesting... Thanks for video... I'm new in WISP and trying to understand that found your video very helpful. This switch you mentioned it is for small sites... But what you recommend for tower to support 2000 CPE?

I would not suggest 2000 CPE's on one tower. At that point youd need to go Nokia LTE with a Juniper or Mikrotik 1072 core.

Great video! Where’s the video showing how to configure dude/zbix to monitor the crs?

I have a netPower16P that needs to be powered over a single Cat6 cable using POE. The setup you have in this video looks like it would do the trick. Where can I find that tiny 24v converter and would you recommend one with more AMPs?

@thefixitgal 3 года назад
That will not work. You need to send DC to it. It takes 24 & 48v in. If you try and power it like that it will crash. Your best option is sending 48v up then adding a buck converter to power the 24v side. Cat6 is pointless. Use Fibre to a 10Gsfpp or 2x cat5E. One for upstream one for downstream.

@@thefixitgal Correct, I should have been clear about the way I used the POE. I put the POE injectors on one ends of the Cat6 to inject the power and a POE picker on the other end before it hits the switch. At that point I would place the 48v to 24v converter. This is not a situation that I can add more cable. I'm replacing a PowerBoxPro with the netPower16p for the extra ethernet ports. Really the current 24v PSU would be fine because I will only need to power the switch. The switch will be for at most 10 retail clients using hAPac2 with their own AC power so, no need for POE out on the switch. This is just a power test to see what could be done and what it could power. I have a few locations with the same single Cat6 cable to the power source. Below is the injector device. It works but I haven't checked to see if it's pushing power out the RJ45 connector. Sure hope I didn't damage the switch. shop.poetexas.com/products/gpoe-1-ab?variant=40016575248

We"re a Tik shop for routers and switches. Is the Netonix your preferred tower switch?
@thefixitgal
@thefixitgal 3 года назад
Yes it is. Can I trust it? Absolutely not. The failure rate is much too high. They are not a truly reliable product. With so many design flaws I would use them only in installations that are only perfect for them. Otherwise I love tik for core.

so what do you use this type of switch for? I'm confused about the whole PoE thing. I want a switch with the SFP+ & Gigabit switching but I am not sure if this PoE is correct. Especially concerning is that part where you said "puffy smoke"....O_O. I just need home LAN for desktops, laptops, NAS, routers. IF this switch can be used for that great but if the voltage is always on...wont that destroy regular network devices?

Dont use a poe switch unless you need one. Theres literally hundreds to choose from. For your needs it sounds like youd be best with the mikrotik CRS326. It has 24 Gb ports and 2x SFPP ports. Otherwise you just turn off poe on the ports you dont need poe on.

@@thefixitgal Awesome! Thank you. I kinda figured that BUT I didn't want to miss out on cool features. However, PoE is something completely different!

Specifications show its 802.3af/at but you are saying it's passive Poe?
@thefixitgal
@thefixitgal 3 года назад
Its both.. at 48v it will run standard poe devices. But its still manual 24/48v in the switch. It is in fact passive poe.

This way configuration takes the CPU at 100% which degrades the results. In CRS-112 we have to use SwitchChip Instead of Bridge Vlans.
