@@Nah-ah No she didn’t(she’s Ukrainian). And Portman did about 90% of everything herself. That’s sad you bring it up. You wouldn’t if you understood where Mila comes from and where the directors family is from. Hes classically trained in Ballet and his paternal grandparents are from Ukraine. Maria Riccetto ( American Ballet Theatre soloist) was Mila Kunis’ dance double, she was used for distance and difficult footwork shots. Mila Kunis was shown when her upper body and face was visible in shot. It’s a shame she didn’t mention this.
@miss0petersburg
@miss0petersburg Год назад
@@meganhuggins7494 “Mila Kunis was showing when her upper body and face was visible”- false. Just like Her costar, she did most of the work, plus, she wasn’t the lead. Body doubles are part of most action, art, athletic films. Ballet takes years and years of work, like one has to be almost born to be one, you can’t train in bone structure, the same with true performance, most aren’t natural at it. I don’t see you going after Tom Cruz or anybody else who use doubles. What’s a shame is that you’re trying to hate on her before you go after those who’s footsteps she’s following in. Interesting

@adamkoyn792
@adamkoyn792 Год назад
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Darren Aronofsky definitely pushed a little to have her in the role. He has an incredible gift of getting the absolute greatest out of his actors, and he loves putting beautiful A-list celebrities through these completely grueling and unconventional, anti-typecast roles. Portman and Kunis in Black Swan, of course, Mickey Rourke in the Wrestler, Brendan Frasier in The Whale, and Ellen Burstyn in Requiem, J-Law in Mother!, are some of the more obvious ones, but think about the smaller roles he casts too. He gets career-best shit out of everyone in his films. Perfect example? Marlon Wayans in Requiem. We don't notice it because the film is extremely visceral, but his performance is fuckin' great! Oscar-worthy, maybe not, but a GOOD god damn acting job. He was perfect for the role, and DA's job as director was to make sure everybody saw it. There are definitely some criticisms about The Whale, but so far, not ONE review says that the acting was so-so.

She had body doubles who did 90% of the dancing. The level they danced at takes 15+ years to achieve. 280 hrs is not even 4% of the way to the dancing you see in the movie. They did get training, but it is very obvious as a ballet dancer, they're not very good dancers (as in seeing the close ups of like the head to waist, all body shots were basically professionals). The fact they taking credit for all the dancing is defeating the whole purpose of the movie in the first place, and has added to ballet being ridiculed and underappreciated, bc now people think actors can dance like that within 280 hrs. When as a ballet dancer, in that amount of time, you can probably only learn the really basic things that I learnt at like 6.

I was a parent helper on one of my son's school trips (a week long). One of the activities was a tour through a theatre which was the HQ of our National Ballet Company. So, we got an insight into the lives of professional Ballet performers .... WOW. As someone who was brought up playing Rugby, Rugby League, other contact sports and a history of the injuries associated with it .... I was blown away on how physically fit, strong and how much pain your average ballet performer goes through. It's mind blowing. There lives are either practicing for the next project, recovering from injuries or staying fit in their spare time ie. gym, crossfit, weights, cardio, etc. They rival a lot of sportsmen for physical strength, mental toughness and pain threshold. When players on a field or court get injured, they get taken off. When ballet performers get injured ... they continue the performance with a smile on their face ... then go to the hospital after. So, I can understand what she's on about.

you really described what life was like for me as a young ballet dancer. even if i wasn't dancing professionally, it was all way too serious. when i was 12 i was rehearsing for the end of year spectacle and while running backstage to get changed for the next act i stepped on a 12 cm thick rusty nail. only a couple of centimeters penetrated, the mom of a friend was a doctor and removed it from and i performed on stage that same night for a 4 hours long spectacle en pointe.
@FilosophicalPharmer
@FilosophicalPharmer Год назад
While performing with American Ballet Theater, my daughter’s left shoulder came out of joint just before stepping onstage. She danced across stage the best she could and passed out from the pain as she stepped off as discreetly as possible. She woke up with Kevin McKenzie and Misti Copeland standing over her, both asking if she was okay. “Please don’t send me home! I can still dance.” “You stay there. There’s an ambulance on its way.” Surgery and physical therapy helped her get back quickly. My daughter is as tough as any pro-footballer.
@enjolras76

No one understands, not even us why we call ballet fun, when it's literally the most painful thing ever lmao. I love it because of the deep connection you develop with music, and the expression, and as a perfectionist it is the best thing for me, but omg is it extremely difficult. People underappreciate the difficulty, we train hours/days/months/years to make it look effortless.

Oh quit your bishin. It paid off. You’re young, rich, and famous. During the winter when it’s cold wet and nasty you can just say eff this chit and go to the Virgin Islands if you want. But then again how bad is the weather most of the time in Southern California? From what I hear it’s pretty nice even in the winter. But then again only rich people can afford a nice house there which you happen to be. So you’re rich, young, beautiful, famous, and your career is going strong. Ain’t nobody going to pity you. With all that God has given you don’t whine or he’ll take it away.

One requires a physicality the other require emotion. Harder to teach someone empathy and charisma vs to dance and do this move. Pop Lock and drop It versus the motivation of why am I pop locking and dropping it.

I mean ballet dancers are actors. However professional dancers literally did 90% of the dancing. As someone who has done ballet for majority of my life, it is really easy ro tell they can't really dance. The steps in the movie are things ballet dancers train 15+ yrs to even start learning. Ballet is extremely difficult and them taking credit for the dancing just defeats the whole purpose of thid movie
@tshepp89
@tshepp89 Год назад
I do wonder about these kinds of stories. 4 months straight 5 hours a day with only one day off for her birthday. Also tore a ligament and dislocated shoulder. So she didn't have any time off after those injuries? She kept training 5 hours a day with a torn ligament? That's not how that works.

five hours a day of BALLET training, 7 days a week. This doesn't include rehearsals, fittings, the actual shooting of the film, plus adrs, plus all the hours she must have put into learning dialogues/investigating the lives of professional ballet dancers and getting into character and then the press tour. Diminising her hard work just because it's different to most people's 9 to 5 is LOSER behavior but go off mypotato bitter queeeeeen !!! keep potatoing on the internet !! u're clearly doing so much better than silly little Mila lmfaooo
