I hope you feel better buddy! Crazy to think a few years ago we were complaining that tech was getting boring hahaha... suppose it still is in the GPU space, but CPUs and APUs in the near future look very interesting indeed. Nice of you to give Tom a shout out. He put his budding channel on the line with that prediction.

Discrete GPUS will be out of style soon enough on the home market. CPU cores do raytracing a lot better then nvidias own special raytracing tech does. as the cores become more and more threads that is where ray tracing will be pushed and the gpu will be on the same package as well with enough power that discrete gpu will be useless almost. Nvidia is trying to milk its final few years in the sun before both AMD and intel squeeze it out of the gaming space. the only place these things will be wanted will be data center side. even then you will have Asics fly in and take over. along side x86/64 being much more powerful then arm and able to feed these asics better that is where everything will be headed.

I had a thought, if AMD were to treat HBM stack over I/O die as a chiplet, we would have 8 chiplets of 8 cores, 4 GPUs, I/O die and 2 HBM stacks all giving together the stated 15 chiplets... would it not make sense?

nonsense I come here for good leaks, solid analysis and speculations. I sure hope most people do. Jim is probably swell guy but that is not the reason to watch his videos. Saying that you would watch w/e he uploads is an insult to the hard work he puts into each and every one of his videos!

The point I was trying to make was that if Jim needed to severely limit the time spent in editing etc. , most of us would still tune in . As long as the info was there, and it would be. I love the in depth analysis and research, But as he stated, some of these are up to a full day of editing/post production. So severely reducing the amount of work on THAT portion of the video would probably go a long ways towards easing the load. I hope that clarifies things.

If AMD is trying to figure out who are their leaks, they may be feeding your sources each slightly different information and when you do your source comparison, AMD will know who is leaking what. I could see your 4th source also being accurate about the 7nm IOD if they're talking about Frontier too. In part to get every bit of space and power savings that AMD can, to be able to fit and cool all of those chiplets, and the HBM2 (could even be 3). Especially with the HBM TSV, memory controller, and logic die integration. Also, in part to just streamline production because of how much they're seemingly trying to do. Hope you get well soon 😊

I am also a heart patient, so take care of yourself. No stress, lots of water, no salt, less sugar, more fruits, more vegetables, balance your iron intake and again no stress. Avoid oily foods as well, cut out junk food as much as you can. 10 chiplets 8 cores, 1 interface chip, 4 graphics chips. Just guessing :)

15 chiplets could also mean 10 core chiplets, 1 I/O die and perhaps 4 SRAM or HBM chiplets. That would reconcile it with the 80 core leak as well.

4hbm would be overkill. 2 HBM stacks + 7nm I/O die + 12 7nm Chiplets. 12x8=96 cores. This would work if 14nm i/0 die for Zen 2 actualy have some sort of l4 cache which would get rid of with zen 3 to be replaced by HBM3. 7nm I/O die without such memory cache would be much smaller.

I second this, I just wanted to write exactly the same. Just to add: If they really make SMT4, they might need a lot of memory bandwidth to feed all the threads with data - so a really large L4 cache (4x HBM or SRAM) would make sense. What surprised me at the Ryzen launch was why the explicitly mentioned the thread count (and not only core-count + "Hyperthreading"). SMT4 could be the answer to this, because you of course get much larger thread numbers now, and they already wanted to focus people on thread count already back then. The 64 vs 80 core could be a late design change - maybe the realized that only increasing the threads is not good enough for the next generation, but people might also want to have more "real" cores...

Or 3 IO dies and 12 CPU dies, with each group of 4 CPU dies served by an IO die. Preserves power of two for the CPU side (any deviation from that always feels uncomfortable!), and 3 IO dies having to sort it out amongst themselves isn't necessarily a silly thing.

I had the same issue as you.. but it took the doctors months to diagnose me.. meanwhile I was having night terrors, panic attacks, anxiety due to hearth pain. I took some meds that literally made me a zombie, I hated it. I decided to quit uni and take care of myself. I started with long slow walks, going to the market early in the morning, eating less and avoiding saturated fats, eating dinner early and less of it. I immediately felt better, and decided to go to the gym to do Pilates. I now feel amazing, but it took sacrifice and lots of work. Don't be afraid of change, embrace it, take this lemon that life threw you and make the best out of it. Keep up the amazing work, you're my favorite tech tuber and I mostly listen to this videos more than watching them, so you could literally upload a blackscreen for me (having these in a podcast format would be awesome as well).

Hey Jim, regarding 15 chiplet Milan, what if the IO chiplet is 7nm? If they did, why not break that monolithic IO die into, say, memory controllers, peripherals, etc. For example, 1 Central Controller, 4 memory controllers, 2 IO chiplets, 8 core chiplets to make 15 total. That way, they could be "fully 7nm" but take advantage of binning for memory controllers. Further, a ~20% area reduction could increase the chiplet CPU count to 10 cores with only a slight increase in size. That gets 80 total cores. Finally, the mild increase in power requirements could be mitigated by power reductions from 7nm IO/mem/etc chiplets.

@@Joe-xq3zu I do agree that the layout works really well for them and changing it would be a hassle. But I think they would because it's easier than it used to be. By moving the memory controller, IO, etc. off the core chips, they don't need to be redesigned every time AMD wants to boost core counts, or even change architecture! Heck, what if AMD broke up that 4x2 chiplet architecture they use into 2 separate 4 core chips? That'd massively increase binning potential and simplify massive chips a lot. Further, that would explain their use of the infinity fabric branding for both the intrachiplet and interchiplet communications.

I went from my most successful semester of college ever to flunking out the next due to an undiagnosed issue, which is likely fibromyalgia but could even be as serious as MS. It's devastating to suddenly have your whole world turn upside down because of a health issue. Keep fighting the good fight!

As I understand it, he is a long time vegan already. Personally I don't believe it's a healthy diet at all. I think it will cause inflammation that will damage the blood vessels. To each, his own though.

The "reverse" part is false. It can definatly prevent it and is a healthy diet, but the "reverse" myth has been started by a adament vegan who missunderstood his doctor. A low fat diet will help repair some damages and will lead you into a state, where you can live with the damage that has been done, but it is impossible to fully reverse such a heart disease. The best way to fight the disease is: a low fat vegetarian/vegan diet in tandom with exercise. There is no doubt about that, but the statement that this would "reverse" it is simply false. As for negative effects of such a diet? Every diet has negative sideeffects. No exception. A vegan diet can (note the "can" not "does") cause a reduction in bone density and hypothyroidism. But in general: a vegetarian diet is more healthy than a regular diet.

I had open heart surgery last November, the mental side of it leading up to the op was worse than the recovery itself. Take care of yourself, good to hear you intend to walk more as that's something I found really helpful mentally and physically, meditation can help enormously with the stress as well.

As a speculation, I believe that GPU's in Frontier will still be on the add-on cards instead of stacking all of that under the one heat-spreader (there might be overheating and power issues otherwise), and Infinity Fabric will be routed over the PCI Express bus (PCI-E 5).

They will all end up in a highly dense pack of server racks so there is no point of making it into seperate package which increase interconnect latency. Besides liquid cooling is not an exotic supercomputer cooling solution. The more normal server parts will obviously came in seperate package but custom supercomputer processor can also have custom cooling system.

Look up ivor Cummins, he's an advocate in Ireland for doing CAC scans and travels across Europe and US doing talks on the topic. He also talks in depth about dietary aspects that can help slow or stop further progression of calcification. I highly recommend it.
