After spending a relaxing two weeks catching up on work in Mildura, it's time for us to set off again on the motorbikes. In this video we leave our comfy Airbnb in Mildura and travel to Mungo National Park. It's a fun day on the motorcycles with lots of amazing scenery and challenging dirt roads. Before arriving at the campground in Mungo National Park we run into a bit of trouble when we hit a slippery patch of mud on the road and Jason crashes his motorbike, thankfully he's OK but poor Franco (Jason's motorcycle) is a little worse for wear from the bike accident. We dust ourselves off and manage to get to the campground OK afterwards, all's well that ends well :)

Originally from Sydney, Australia, we met in 2005 and have been married since 2012. We've both always loved to travel, we started a small web development business together almost 10 years ago so we could travel around the world while working remotely. We love adventure travel and learning through doing, we went on a one year cycle touring and camping trip back in 2013 through Asia and Europe with zero experience and it turned out to be one of the most exciting and memorable times of our lives. Since then we've always wanted to do something that big and adventurous again but haven't gotten around to it until now. We got the idea for a motorcycle trip around Australia when the pandemic hit and the borders all closed, neither of us had seen much of "our own backyard" yet so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do the #biglap. Neither of us had any motorcycle touring experience but we weren't going to let a small detail like that hold us back! So Tina got her motorcycle learner license 😲 then we bought Arnie and Franco (our Royal Enfield Himalayans) and hit the road! 🏍️🏍️ We started this #travelvlog for a bit of fun and to have something to look back on and relive the adventure of our glory days when we're old and grey, and to share our experiences with friends and family. Thanks for watching! 😊

Man, glad you're ok. I would replace those crash bars with the Givi ones. That's what I have on my Himi. Much tougher and they won't bend. 🍻

Thanks mate me too. Yeah might look at upgrading down the road, having 3 mounting points would make a difference.

Time to upgrade the tires on those bikes guys, its going to be more of that if you don't if your heading to the outback.

Thanks for the tip, we ended up changing them not too long after here in Longreach to some more aggressive 50/50 tyres, they definitely made a difference in the dirt.

Good you've come up OK from this little crash ! That is always risk on those roads. Most of us have been there (I mean, not only there, but down too!) :-) No, crashes are not covered by any warranty (insurance... maybe) ! :-D However, I am surprised that all crash bars on Himalayan gave up so easily. Fact that you could straighten them by hand worries me a bit and made me think that they are more cosmetic feature than actual protection. You should get them all reinforced at metal work shop in Broken Hill when you get there if you are about to continue further into outback. I hope that you have: * spare brake and clutch lever for at least one bike. * spare foot shifter and foot brake lever. This is easy to carry and can save you inconvenience of having to tow bike after outback riding. Things happen and often most damage is done on a low speed drops (my experience). :-)

Thanks for the tips Dub, we were surprised by the crash bars as well, they do a good job if the bike falls while pretty much stationary, but the forward momentum seems to bend them back a bit. There are other types we've seen that bolt in at three points instead of two that could be stronger so we might have a look at swapping them out down the track. Yeah we carry a few basic spares, tools, tubes etc for one bike in case we get into trouble on the road, that's one of the main reasons we both got the same bike. Haven't had to do any road side repairs yet though (touch wood!), other than what you saw in this video with the crash bar lol.

Great video. I’ve been on that road with a car, man when roads like that gets any moisture it becomes slippery as. Well you survived the days ride, no personal injures which is good to hear, bike suffered a little bit but always can get repaired. Well done 👍

Cheers it was a good lesson, I couldn't believe how slippery the mud was when I hit it, zero traction on both wheels and I hit the deck before I knew what was happening. Then from the ground I saw Tina start to fishtail and thought she was going down too but she managed to pull off the side thankfully. But yeah no real harm done and Franco has some battle scars now :)

Hello, I am catching up on your travels, OK the spill was nasty, good recovery, more lessons learned when shit like that happens, main thing is that you both are ok....Well done on your ride and camp set up...... David....Adelaide....Tiger 900GT.....

Watching this video again after getting my own Himalayan, I was thinking my next investment would be crash bars. Did you upgrade yours yet. It's a matter of money too, Givi much more expensive. Anyway, looking forward to a summery of the trip.

No we've still got the same crash bars. The Givi ones look stronger with the three mounting points instead of two, but the ones we have were good enough to get us through the trip. And yeah Givi stuff is way more expensive.

The Biker Bits Channel crew released a video of a group of blokes taking the nearby Pooncarie to Ivanhoe road in the wet, slippery, dirt--titled HELL ROAD. Some very experienced riders found it very hard to stay on two wheels...lots of stacks. You did well to restrict it to one. I live not to far from this area and I would not ride that road if it was wet...maybe yes if I was a teenager with bendy bones on a light dual sport.

Small offs happen. Bikes are fixable. The main thing is that you're all OK.

Yep they sure do, we’ve had a few more since then. Thankfully nothing serious though.

There’s a couple different types of wild melons. They look similar, one will slowly kill you and the others edible. My parents made jam from the good ones.

Glad to see you are ok. Those are very unpredictable roads. I came down in the sand just out of Pooncairie, broke my ankle. Take extra care and enjoy your travels.

Cheers Peter, yeah we couldn't believe how slippery it was, all happened in an instant. We were aiming for menindee lakes but had to turn back at Pooncarie because of rain, the locals said the road was impassable.

So glad you're OK, just another bump in the road for you both,.though quite scary this time around. This is what life is all about, you try, you may fall but you get right back up, dust yourself off and keep on riding. It's all about learning. Keep safe and well 👍❤🙂

Thanks mum, haha no we didn't add any clothes to the line we need every piece we've got! The truck was a good thing it would've been hard picking the bike up out of the mud by ourselves, and yeah no wine was pretty disappointing after a stressful day :( lol
