I used to wear a ton of makeup and one night I prayed to God and asked Him if it bothered Him to let me know and I’d stop. Literally the next day as I was putting my makeup on it felt disgusting on my face and I looked in the mirror and it just didn’t look right. I knew it was God answering my prayer. They say we talk to The Lord like we would pick up the phone and talk like two teens, but if you know God, when He speaks to you, you feel different, you hear different, you see different, you see the changes you needed before you prayed. Those are THE ANSWERS for your prayers, not pure words heard through your ears. God doesn't speak to us like He used to(Exodus 33:11) because of the amount of sin in this world. But we have the bible and He speaks to us though the Bible. If you don't read it, you don't know what He wants you to do.

Many of us have areas of weakness or inclination to a certain sin and we decide to leave it unseen so we wont be judged, she made it seen to be judged. So with that, lets choose love for her vulnerability of her weakness and truthfully pray she can conquer it. 🙏🏻 I truthfully love her and she has blessed my life and in this moment where she is struggling I wont judge her but pray for her. My heart goes for her and also alll women struggle with vanity to a certain degree…at least she had the courage to say she struggles with it.

Hi Josh! Just to confirm your thoughts on purity culture, I feel like it damaged me growing up. It made me feel like my entire worth was whether I was pure or not, so when I rebelled and lost my virginity I basically lost my entire sense of self because I had "no value" at that point, in the eyes of God and my parents. It snow balled from there into other sins and finally came back around to finding my faith and becoming born again. In God's eyes, I am pure, despite my mistakes. And although I 100% feel like my daughters would be better off to save themselves for marriage, I would never want them to feel like that's the only thing that matters. God also knows what he's doing because I think my husband and I were made for each other and if I never experienced what I did I might've never met him. So it worked out... But I do think it damaged my thinking a little bit. If you don't understand God's love/relationship, and you're only told the "rules", people can become really disenfranchised from Him altogether.

Same!! I totally think saving oneself is important but not for the reasons the church preaches. I think the proper conversation should be about setting boundaries, revaluations and building trusting relationships with a partner, and understanding intimacy. We all are human and have needs (especially hormonal and sexually). After I lost my virginity I blamed getting an STI in my sin and not the guy not being safe or transparent. After I sleepies around to the point of not even feeling things during sex. I realized I had no boundaries and was ending up in unhealthy relationships relaxing that help me “keep purity” more than any sermon or shame ever has

Oof. I have to disagree with everything that was said in the little I watched of this video. So what if Milena has photos of herself online, or if she wears makeup and has her hair done. The message of her video is that she is unlearning things of the world and this doesn't happen overnight? The things from her past are just that - in the past. Also, modesty doesn't have to equal looking homeless or like you don't care for yourself, it's a matter of where you draw the line. For Milena, if that was to stop getting her nails done and Botox, so be it.. it's still a step, for her, in the right direction. Disagreeing with her view is understandable, I felt uneasy watching her video myself, but Milena has said all she had to say with grace and kindness and not once put it on her viewers to do what she is doing. Which is in stark contrast to the man in this video. How can someone have so much hatred and spite and take so much pleasure from putting other people down?
@RayleenWigs
@RayleenWigs Год назад
100%, and seeing Milena now, she has changed SO MUCH and really what she was talking about. When she started making these ‘sacrifices’; to him it’s just getting nails done, to her and others who were inspired it’s changing their priorities for God. While I never got my nails done and I’m a young mom like Milena, I was actually inspired to give up something, while it may not have been nails, it was time off tv and I became closer to the Lord… I’m impressed with how knowledgeable this man is and I actually learned some from this video, but I just can’t get over how spiteful he sounds while calling her names… 😬

Hey Josh, thanks for making your videos so raw and real. I feel understood and like I’m on the right path when you speak about your push back of the church since I have had that same journey this last year. When I was saved at 18 I was immediately burden by the weight of purity culture and what it did to my self esteem, always trying to be perfect. I was just like this woman at one point. Like most Christian woman can become over time of being engulfed in this culture. What opened my eyes was almost losing family members to Covid in the last year, I realized the superficial confirmations from clergy or church members wasn’t going to help me. I had to rely on my relationship with God and after 8 years I noticed that relationship was not strong because I was focused on how I looked. Purity culture in its essence is all about vanity and popularity. Thanks for bring light to this because two years ago I would be too afraid to share this anywhere. This is my safe space at times. 😊

Personally, I am Christian woman and I do practice modesty I even wear a head scarf sometimes and I do interpret the bible to say women should dress modestly. Not because my husband owns me. It's about MY privacy. It's about not drawing attention to myself and not being tempted into vanity. I feel like I can walk through the world with absolute anonymity and I am not putting my body on display for other people to "consume". And I've found so much power and confidence in that. I really dislike the way she is hypocritically "selling" modesty.
@Nope-s
@Nope-s Год назад
I agree with you completely. I share very similar beliefs about women and modesty. We are to dress in a way that glorifies Christ. I always think to myself, if the Lord came back today, would my clothing be pleasing in his sight? The truth is though, He can always see us and how we adorn ourselves. Yes, our inside is most important...our hearts. However, our outside is a reflection of what's within. And certain types of clothing are worn because the person wants certain types of attention. And when someone is truly convicted and born again, they don't want that attention....they only want to please God. They will put their vanity down, their selfishness, haughtiness, their revealing clothing. They will lay it all down. Because those things will absolutely get in the way of our walk with Christ. I have recently fallen in my walk with Christ, and I want to give a bunch of excuses why, but there aren't any, other than sin and my own selfish, impatient ways. I need prayers if you have time and don't mind. To turn back to Christ and away from my own self. I have become stuck in a depressed rut ever since my daughter's father relapsed about 9 months ago. I should have clung tighter to Christ, instead I sought after my own understanding. Sorry for rambling. Hope you're doing wonderful 💛💛💛
@nikki1400
@nikki1400 Год назад
Im not an expert on any of this, but i and it really sounds like you're doing it right, for the right reasons, and that you have a fantastic head on your shoulders. Modesty isnt about slut shaming, being better than,or making sure men behave appropriately, it's a personal thing and is as much about behavior and headspace as it is appearance. I cannot stand this oneupsmanship that occurs so frequently with people claiming to do things because the lord told them to. 🙄
@nikki1400
@nikki1400 Год назад
@@Nope-s please dont forget that we are HUMAN, and human beings are fallible. You are allowed to stumble, allowed to feel grief and require outlets for that grief, allowed to not be perfectly convicted 100% of the time. We grow, we learn, and we change, and that's ok. What's also important to remember is that this time on earth can be difficult, and you arent expected to handle everything with perfect grace. You're allowed to be angry, and feel sorry for yourself, and curse your circumstances, thats all OK! Wanting to walk with christ at all times is fantastic, but you can't forget that your half of that equation is human, and that trials on this earth often require our imperfect humanity to take the wheel. You're trying, you're enough, and you're worthy. Be kinder to yourself, please, and treat yourself as Christ would treat you.

I'm so glad I'm raising my kids different, they will be so much more prepared for adulthood than I was. Church really did a number on me, but I am raising my kids to know God right, not all the crap they told us in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. Purity culture was so so bad and damaged a lot of us. I'm not saying purity is wrong, it's the way they taught us about it that was wrong.

@@Solitaire427 I was actually a little defensive when he first started talking about purity culture because you never want to admit what you were taught was wrong, but I knew even when they were teaching it that it was wrong. Never holding boys accountable, telling girls it's always their fault. They would literally tell the boys that if they had urges, it was the girls fault for dressing or acting in a way that drew the boys attention. I had all brothers so I got to hear all about what they were told when the teachers split us up. I remember the pastors son popping a girls bra strap 1 time and SHE got in trouble because "her strap must have been visible" and "he was "just being a boy" and "next time she needed to cover up and dress appropriately". It was so backwards. But I'm thankful I grew to own my own mind and my kids will never have to suffer trying to find "modest" enough clothes. Like Josh says, boys will be attracted to anything, so it's on them to control themselves. Girls should dress respectfully and appropriately I still believe, but we don't have to cover every inch of ourselves with a potato sack to do that lol
@Solitaire427
@Solitaire427 Год назад
@@TwinMama-jv3zb I wasn’t raised in the purity culture so it’s interesting to hear about. I didn’t realize that the boys were not taught any responsibility for their thoughts and actions. I agree with Josh about what he said he’s teaching his son. That no matter how a female is dressed You are to be respectful. A female being dressed immodestly doesn’t give a boy the right to be disrespectful. Since I wasn’t raised in the purity culture, and was not really told anything about valuing your body or valuing sex, I kind of wished I was raised with some purity ethics, so when he started talking about the purity culture being a bad thing I just automatically thought he was saying purity is a bad thing. So I appreciate your point of you, because it really cleared it up for me what he actually means

Exactly. There is nothing wrong with purity but you need to approach it in a healthier way with kids. It’s almost like purity culture makes sex and anything close to it seem so vile and awful and you will be in big trouble for doing it before your married. The truth is, just as we parents do with our young ones for their protection, the Lord gave boundaries and reasons WHY we should abstain - it’s to get the most fulfillment from marriage as he intended it to. And with it also comes consequences as with any choice you make. It’s not to keep us from “having fun”. It’s fun! And he made it so! But there’s just SUCH a better way to go about it.

She makes it clear these are her own personal convictions. I find it very inspirational. 2 Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." For a man who studied the bible you have very little understanding of it.

I would love to watch more videos, he seems like he would have an interesting take on religion, but the way he expresses himself is so disrespectful: calling her names and mocking her hand movements, her name and what colours she wears or uses in her home. Very rude. I don't agree with Milena on everything about modesty but I think it's a good thing she is talking about it. Maybe she should have approached the subject a bit differently but overall her video was interesting to me.

She may have a problem with being too vain. So God is working on her and convicting her of her vanity. So maybe the nails is just a start to teaching her to be less vain.. I think the problem is her trying to convict others of what God has convicted her of.. but I don’t think we should be judging her on what God is trying to work out in her life. I personally Don’t have a big problem with vanity not saying I don’t have any problem at all with vanity just saying it’s not a big problem in my life but maybe it is in her life. God convicts us according to our needs. If that’s wrong I don’t mind being corrected..

I comment often and it's because I can relate so much usually! I got saved in church at age 5 on Christmas Eve. I was brought to/influenced by/attend school at numerous denominations including: congregational, seventh day adventist, baptist, assemblies of god, interdenominational and extreme fundie that is rarely talked about known as Victory Chapel, The Door or The Potter's House and a few other names (someone please talk about them!) started by Waymen Mitchell (I was under Paul Campo, they don't go to seminary, they are "discipled"). I honestly don't know where to start with a comment because I could probably do a years worth of commentary off of this one video, you did a great job! I have a close relative who is an elite christian, which is what I call these types, and is an author and self proclaimed image coach. I get to hear this type of crap all the time and have to bite my tongue because it's my family lol!! I am often asked to help with, speak at (less often now because I'm not really a real christian in their eyes now since I don't attend church) or attend these special women's ministry events and I want to puke. First of all, I do not struggle with confidence which is usually the focus of the image coaching (gee, I wonder why so many christian women struggle with confidence to the point where it's just assumed they all do?). I don't think I'm anything special, but I am not worried about anyone's opinion on how I look. I can't understand how masses of women think focusing on their looks has anything to do with god or church at all! Although, I did hear those verses lots of times, especially from the seventh day adventist relatives, I read the surrounding verses and chapters in the bible too and eventually realized none of this is from the lord! It would be beyond easy for me to join the grift and I'd be lying if I said I haven't thought about it because I have as in: if you can't beat em' join em', but I just can't do that! There's no way I could sleep at night knowing I was screwing with a bunch of women's heads like this. For Milena, I think she's too stupid to even realize what she's doing, none of the catch phrases leaving her mouth are original to her, she is just following others. Is that malicious? I don't know. I'm just so glad that you are shedding light on this, this culture is hurting women badly and they need to know. Thank you Josh!

Purity culture was so, so damaging! Do you remember the different analogies ONLY used to describe girls who had sex before marriage? Flowers that have been plucked. A chewed stick of gum. Chipped teacups. Tape that’s lost its stickiness. Rotten fruit that fell off the tree. On and on and on. There was a lot of in-your-face rhetoric with the analogies, purity rings and concerts, but the fear we learned was subtle in a lot of ways. And we were promised that somehow the shame and fear would magically disappear on our wedding night. It would just poof, be gone. What those of us who grew up in purity culture have realized is that shame and fear doesn’t instantly disappear. The harmful consequences are something we will have to unpack for years. Also, I'm not sure how this was never thought of. If purity is something you can lose because of sexual activity that means those who are abused or raped are no longer pure. Remember those analogies purity culture loves to throw around? Rotten fruit that fell off the tree. Can you even imagine the heartache and burden that puts on rape survivors? I'm so thankful that so many of us are finally stepping away. While we still love God with all we have, we've been deconstructing religion and how toxic some churches can be.

Agree with this!!! In middle school (private middle) boys and girls were separated for sex Ed. The girls were given a piece of tap and were told to place it on our skin then rip it off. We then had to take our piece and give it to the person on the right and repeat with their piece of tape. This went on until everyone had a piece of tape that had absolutely no stick to it. We were then told that is what will happen to you if you have sex before marriage no one wants a piece of tape that isn't sticky. That shit is sooooo toxic it's unbelievable. If my hubby and I ever have children we Will absolutely not be teaching this. We will be teaching respect and boundaries.

Nothing ever happened, no fight between kids or parents, but at that time they got even deeper into their church and the only thing we could figure was we weren’t religious and they didn’t want to be around us.
