Also to add, I can hear ASU's saxophones CLEARLY throughout the entire battle. Something VERY unusual when it comes to band period. They were pushing out some serious sound.
First of all I want to give all respect due to HBCU bands. I would also like to say that Miles College Band really represented their institution well. However, on this day they were greatly outmatched by ASU!!! I was at this competition and this video doesn’t do it justice. It did not show the dominance. Before the competition Miles Band and their many supporters were up in arms. Their supports, wearing tee shirts and all kinds of hats and jackets, were going back and forth with the crowd with praise of their band. They were singing songs and chanting back and forth with the band. However when ASU started playing their first song and showed their power the entire gym erupted. All the high school bands were on their feet dancing while ASU showed out. Once ASU finished with their first song Miles College looked deflated. The bands whole demeanor changed. Even their supports sitting around me were saying WOW! They said nothing else during the entire battle. From the first song until the last ASU was on fire. Great Job ASU!!! Incredible!!!!
I was at the event as well while I must admit asu was impressive but no one can say they took the life out of PMM no mater how good and I was one of those supporters u were talking about please believe we still chanted and kept on supporting the whole show the Purple Marching Machine don't deflate for no one and of course the gym would erupt in a gym full of asu alumni and students im not hating on asu not at all because i will give them there props they did good but be real greatly outmatched no even
Contagious was purely musical. Takin hbcu marching bands to another level. Both bands did great. I've never been an ASU fan till now. And Miles showed that they ain't just any low rate band. Can't wait to see more of both these bands
This is for Harry Lee!!! I'm from state and I give props when it's due!!! But the songs right after we played contagious, they was thumbing, so the microphone and speakers are dead. They decided to come with some heat. And they sound good. Now on the best band there, that's IRRELEVANT, because I've seen a band of 144 blow 250 out, so please don't go there
Asu clearly had the better Trumpets, Miles Clearly had the better mellos, Both baritone sections performed well. Alabama State had the better trombonists. It was a great battle. Asu's last song was beautiful. And Miles' all of me was powerful. Total tie.
I agree with you both bands came with it now what I wanna see is a classic football game featuring these two. Miles is too much for the Siac conference they can go toe to toe with any band. I'm glad ASU choose Miles to battle. And these two bought the best out of each other this is the best they have both performed this season. Good ol Alabama battle now let's get a battle featuring ASU AAMU Miles and Talladega that would be epic!!!
Yeah I would have to go with miles. They both did good and asu sounded better than what I've heard recently. I don't think that counts as far as contagious... them down there making out words to me doesn't justify a sound, but that's just my opinion. Miles came to play!
Miles was good but ASU was better!!! Epic battle and I love the energy and fun vibe coming from these two. Enjoyed them laugh, joke and fellowship afterwards. That'd what's it's all about!!!
I have read some of you all comments the life never went out of Miles we just got bored from starting 2 hours late and then had to sit thru the high school battles plus those boring rappers! How can you just say State won when first of all they set the rules, they were at home by the microphone (yes I pay attention to everything), and each time they thought they had the best song they went first and they were the largest band there? So does that makes them the winner? Both bands represented their schools well! lets take this thing to Birmingham with no rules or better yet lets hit this grid iron (football for those who don't know) and lets do zero to fifth quarter and then and only then you can say who was victorious! Give credit when credit due lets stop hating on each others. This battle was ten times better than Southern and Talladega battle! Food for thought( BEING THE LOUDEST SOUNDING BAND DOESN'T MEAN YOU ARE BEST SOUNDING BAND)!
Miles and asu did well ,but the fact is theirs no loser both bands won. We both got paid! After, the battle Miles went back to asu bandroom and had dinner. I enjoyed fellowship and talking with my X students. Man we had fun.. Did you see both bands fans?? All those alums standing proudly!!
MrKoolhill you don't know shit if that's your only comment! that's why I don't comment on here because you have to many uneducated people on here of course they louder look at the numbers! What new song or up to date songs did state play? State sound great not taking nothing from them but for you to just say they sound better you must not be a musician and if you are a musician you garbage!!!!! What high school you went to? That might answer a lot questions.
Leave A&M out this one as you can tell we are stepping outside the SWAC box....as with any change it won't be accepted at first but at least we got he balls to do it....as far as this battle nice from both!! Best I have heard Bama State in a while
Tbh i say both bands are better than they both was during the season. But miles won the stand battle but asu won the whole thing when they preformed contagious
They playing a lot of Alcorn songs but ASU do sound good for the first time in history even though I'm a JSU fan but I'm going to finish watching the battle because I'm going for miles undisputed champs in their class
If nobodies watching Alcorn why are these their song selections because surely bama state wasn't bringing no heat all season especially during that beat down they got from Jackson State... bama need they band director back from 2004 season..
Miles had the better overall package. Sound, power, balance, musicality, and wow factor. ASU won in the category of soft porno of the year. Hats off to State.
Famu will never be the same so it don't matter if they wood winds are heard or not. Sorry but tru and I'm a Florida boy born and raised in the county of Dade. Dhatt!!!!
So wait.. were the other dance lines like high school dance lines from Alabama?? If it weren't for the Stingettes I would call this a tie but ASU CLEARLY won this battle... THEY ARE FIGHTING TO KEEP OTHER BANDS FROM THAT NUMBER 3 SPOT... They NEVER EVER EVER EVER FUCKEN EVER play like this against JSU OR SU... I don't understand why... Fucken stupid is what it is... If they played like this against them then they wouldn't be 3rd behind them... I wanna say good job but I don't understand why they don't ALWAYS play like this... smfh
I don't think they sound terrible it's just not enough of them you can barley hear them but the rest of Miles band sounds good especially the Tubas and Mellos. ASU was louder. Thunder was way better than the bullets
