I, too,am a fan of Naushadji.But I think SJ scored over Naushadji in terms of versatility,and SDB was not far behind.

satish kk As we know, music is not a science. Our views are always subjective. There is absolutely no way to prove that one song is better than the other. During college days, I used to love SJ songs. To me they were the best and why not? Who else had created so many hit songs like in Barsaat, Awaara, Aah, Badal and many more. In terms of numbers SJ were ahead of Naushad. Few years later, after I grew musically, I began liking Naushad and SD Burman far more than SJ. Except for some songs, like in Chori Chori, SJ songs don't have the same musical depth as Naushad or SD Burman. Now what is a 'musical depth'? This cannot be answered in a scientific way. But it can be felt. Can someone explain to me in a scientific manner why is Madhubala considered to be the most beautiful of all actresses? A vast majority of seasoned music lovers consider Naushad and SD Burman to be the best. I personally like Naushad better because his music was more based on Indian folk and classical, and it touched inner depths of heart, whereas Burman's music was more intellectually inspiring and one wonders how did he create this melody. Frankly, I think Laxmikant Pyarelal were as good, if not better,than SJ. They brought the melody back, when it was dying, in Indian film songs. Naushad and SJ were burnt out by mid 1960's. Like few other comments against your remarks, I humbly differ with you; Even Naushad in an interview (available in RU-vid) used to tell publicly that all these years he has been following Khemchand Prakash, his Guru (under whom he worked as his Assistant and who taught him classical music) but could not reach the height of Khemchand ji's music. To me, and perhaps many others, Khemchand Prakash and R.C. Boral top the list of music directors best ever till date, since the sheer musical depth and melodic variations these two produced remains unmatched till date and both were masters of classical music as they learnt classical music from childhood unlike Naushad who was trained by Khemchand ji later in his life. Pl go through the music of these two and you will notice the subtle differences in quality of their music with others. Normally topmost quality may not be found with the most popular in public domain but there are few exceptions like these two--Khemchand ji, RC Boral, KL Saigal, Kanan Devi, Amirbai Karnataki who were topmost in quality as well as most popular in their respective fields in their times--who have inspired other artistes of next generation.

@@arjumandnaushad8025 Naushad saheb of course has been my greatest figure in Indian Film Music. We became such affectionate and great friends I have 70 letters from him in URDU full of affection. Due to this I had my brother marry his daughter to strengthen our relationship. But this marriage turned out to be VERY VERY SOUR and Naushad saheb could not handle the POLITICS . He was the superhead in MISTREATING HORRIBLY me , my wife and family.
