Naushad Sahab's hit ratio is astonishing and comparatively is much superior to any other MD before or after him. Naushad Sahab's most fruitful phase occurs between 1942 to 1963. Indeed, his first commercially successful film was Nayi Duniya in 1942 and up until Mere Mehboob in 1963, he composes the score for 39 films. Of these 39 films, 19 celebrate their Silver Jubilee, 7 celebrate their Golden Jubilee and 5 reach the dizzying height of a Diamond Jubilee. In summation, 31 out of his 39 films in this phase aren't merely hits, but major commercial successes. Moreover, in each decade (to wit, the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s), Naushad Sahab always had three films amongst the top five highest grossing movies (adjusted for inflation) of the decade. In the 1940s these were Rattan, Anmol Ghadi and Andaz. In the 1950s, it was Aan, Baiju Bawra and Mother India and in the 1960s Mughal-e-Azam, Ganga Jamuna and Mere Mehboob. Conversely, in a recent article authored by the Indian Film Institute, they produced a list of the 14 highest grossing Indian movies adjusted for inflation and amazingly Naushad Sahab had four movies in the top 10. The list is as follows: 1) Mughal-e-Azam - 2K Crores 2) Sholay - 1.5K Crores 3) Bahubali 2 - 1.417K Crores 4) Hum Aapke Hain Kaun - 1.197K Crores 5) Mother India - 961 Crores 6) Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge - 915 Crores 7) Ganga Jamuna - 793 Crores 8) Raja Hindustani - 691 Crores 9) Mere Mehboob - 655 Crores 10) Naya Daur - 652 Crores 11) Gadar - 596 Crores 12) Dangal - 587 Crores 13) Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - 565 Crores 14) PK - 556 Crores (source: Indian Film Institute) There will never be another MD of Naushad Sahab's calibre..

Ek Bahot Azeem Music Director Aur Khubsurat Urdu Zaban ke Shair, Naushad Ali Sahab, ko Kheraaj Wo Tehseen, Allah Maghfirat Farmaye, Aur Jannat Ul Firdous mein Aala Maqam Ataa Farmaye. Aameen Summa Aameen.
Naushad ji was such a great Music Composer and yet such a humble human being!!! I feel so grateful, humbled & privileged to get the opportunity to have worked with him as a vocal back-up/chorus singer in so many of his projects over the years, the last of them being the re-recording of the songs for the colour version of the epic Moghul-E-Azam!!!
Waoooo ....Naushad sahab jaise guni sangeetkar God gifted hain ..kintna sundar...sahaj saral...kitna khubsurti say bayan kein Sangeet ka aasli matlab...sacha kalakar hain🙏
Naushadji is a true example of my belief that the mark of a man's greatness is in his humility in spite of all his achievements. Naushadji is a national treasure and ought to be recognized as such. He is a giant among the great musicians of the world. Thank you for uploading this brilliant documentary for us to watch. I wish I could watch the complete version. It is without a doubt a great asset and must be treasured as such in the Indian film archives.
I think in that era people used to be very down to earth because of their teachers who were teaching them life lessons nd politeness... What an era ... In the end of this interview Naushad ji says heart touching words in gazal ... My eyes just weeped...
This is such a great interview. Most musicians cannot explain the thought process behind their compositions. They call it talent or dedicate their creativity to God. Naushad ji explains his thought process in such a simple manner that even a general music lover can understand and appreciate the greatness of his music. Hope his music lives on forever.
He was no doubt a great music director who due to his passion and indian classical music achieved this fame and appreciation. His music will always alive as long as the sun and moon shines. The narrator of this episode has touched many important part of this great person, Naushad Saheb, may his soul rest in eternal peace. Amern
His humility is unparalleled! Such a humble human with pure heart and knowledge. His vocabulary is exceptional, the respect he has for the artists is very much evident from his words.
Of all the music directors of Hindi movies Naushad was greatest. His range was widest and imagination boundless. He directed music in comparatively less movies but the quality of music came up as cream. All contemporary singers rendered their best in his music except Kishore Kumar. However Kishore also sang for him in a duet with Asha Bhosle.
Naushad Ali sahab the soul of Indian music in Hindi/ urdu films.
NAUSHAD JI HAS GIVEN LOT OF SOUL TOUCHING MUSIC N SONG . WE ARE VERY VERY INDEBTED TO HIM FOR GIVING US SO MANY BEAUTIFUL EAR SOOTHING SONGS. SALUTE TO THE GREAT GOD GIFTED MUSICIAN
There is no parallel for Naushad Sahab - He has been unique , was and shall ever remain so ! We were young children at that time. His "Bidaai" song from film Babul cotinued to be played at marriages for decades by marriage bands and was always played when the bride will be leaving her home for setting another home at her in Laws - leaving every one in her Babul's family in tears and teary eyes. God bless him where ever his noble soul is !!!
What a humble person despite achieving great musical success. He is so open and candid in his declaration that most of his great songs were from existing raags. Delighted to watch this interview.
That anecdote with Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan was a gem. Just shows how much dedicated these stalwarts were for their crafts and works. This is such an amazing interview and recording. And mentioning Halim Jafar for that exquisite sitar solo in "Madhuban main radhika" song. Priceless.
Just subscribed this channel only for this legendary interview of Janab Naushad Shab… his last lines made me an emotional… his dedication and hard works are highly appreciated…
When you speak sir, I want to listen to the language, the deep thought process and artistic way of your expression. Amar ho, aap. Baiju bawra and Mughle Azam are going to be my favorites for ever.
