@@hellboyjv3 The vocal surgery didn't have as much impact on her sound as people make it out to be, if anything it just made her sound better live considering all her performances last year (save for Slide Away at the VMAs) were really bad and rough. I love that Miley isn’t trying to sing like Billie, usually when you see other artists cover songs they usually try and keep the same “style” but Miley’s singing it as if it was her own song which is amazing.
Proof of how the tone of the voice and the intention in it can totally shift the meaning of a song, Billie’s sounds like a love song for what’s is to come with a bright eye and a hopeful heart while Miley’s sounds like a farewell to all those things that are too heavy or too old to carry forward if we want to grow and evolve, both of them filled with so much emotion but very different ones
She changed the whole vibe of the song completely telling a different story and into a different song. QUEEN!!! She has a very wide variety of vocal range. So talented!!
One thing about miley is that when she covers something, she has the ability to COMPLETELY transform it into an entirely different song, different genre, different everything just with her voice. First with no tears left to cry, now this... she has such a distinctive sound, it honestly blows me away everytime
Disagree. This is very close to the original, except Billie's version is more sultry. Miley's version is using more force in the vocals than Billie's and underscores the nasality to her voice.

It's a moment that you'll never forget, she's just like a goddess, she sings like a goddess. She captures all the attention and her presence floods the whole place. Billie's version: you are about to leave school/work, you had a stressfull day, and then you hear someone playing the piano and singing behind a door, when you open it sightly, you can see a girl singing a beautiful song, her soft voice makes your worries go away, she doesn't notice you, she's singing to herself but it reaches to your heart. She captures your attention and her presence floods the whole room. Both versions are awesome ♡
I have been slowly, so slowly, falling for Miley’s maturity, vocals, authenticity. This is wonderful. We should all strive to be ourselves making art whether it’s a cover or not. The birds are singing with her outside hehe

Billie’s version and Miley’s version sound like two sides of the same coin, one just starting her journey and the other using the wisdom she’s gained from walking through fire. It’s very reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” and how she originally sang it as an idealistic young woman in 1968 and re-recorded it in 2000 after experiencing life. It took on a whole different meaning with experience behind it.

Every vocal decision she made here was entirely correct, its not even a matter of opinion at this point. Shes just correct. Miley is a master of her craft and its truly incredible smart she is with music omg.
She was on a podcast with Joe Rogan. She discusses her voice change and it is really astonishing the way she puts it. A lot of it has to do with the surgery she had in November.
But the wrong person to cover this song, which should sound more jazzy, but she does have an amazing voice and like her better doing her own music or more in tune with her voice.
This version just proves what we already knew. This is an incredibly well written song. Billie and Fineas are just super talented writers and arrangers.

Over a year later, I still love this cover; such a good take on an already fantastic song. I have to admit I originally wrote Miley off due to my generation of timing growing up on first impressions of Hanna days, but once she broke away from Disney and did her own thing, which I still think was the best move I became a pretty continuous fan of her work, thank you for this Miley it truly is a gem.
