The two tornadoes that saved Japan from the Mongols were dubbed Kamikaze, which means Divine Wind. That same word was later used in WWII for suicide fighter jets.

3:29 Yes. The north was Ainu territory. The Ainus are similar to the indigenous people of North America or the Sami of northern Sweden and Norway. Actually peaceful people, but the Japanese hated them and didn't like their facial hair. No shit, they hate their appearance.

4:30 no tornadoes but typhoons. Mongols tried invading Japan twice and both times their fleet got caught in massive typhoon and majority drowned. Mongols didn't try third time. Infamous "Kamikaze" comes from this event. Kami - Divine, Kaze - wind. Divine wind protected Japan, this is what Japanese came to believe since it indeed was a miracle how Japanese got lucky, TWICE. Kamikaze didn't save them vs US though.

Another history youtuber i would deeply suggest for you is The Armchair Historian He has made many videos on several topics that i think you would find interesting, the animation and production is top tier as well! His video on Operation Bagration (the biggest Soviet offensive of WW2) or D-Day could be a nice opener for you!

There are a number of good historical RU-vid channels out there. My two favorites, and thus the ones I would recommend, are: History Matters who does short documentaries about historical questions you (or at least I) always asked but never bothered to find out. and Extra History, who usually do 4-6 episodes long animated series, mostly about people but also about events. Though sometimes, there are also one-off episodes. Both are generally positively received by the two history teachers and one historian I watch who do reactions.

The tornado thing is real. They tried invading twice and got wrecked in a typhoon both times. They then took that as signs from the gods and left japan alone

8:54 Its pretty easy to keep track, So basically what happened Austria Hungary's leader had his nephew ho to Serbia someone from Serbia shot him and Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia but Russia likes Serbia so they declared war on Austria Hungary, But Germany liked Austria-Hungary so they declared war on Russia, So Russia brought France in to the war so Germany used Belgium against France, But Britain was in an alliance with Belgium so Britain declared war in Germany and Austria-Hungary.

Yeah the whole thing about the Mongols dying in a tornado (actually a typhoon) is an insane moment in Japan’s history. Because the Mongols had invaded and conquered practically every corner of Asia, so Japan looked like small fry. If those typhoons had been like a hundred miles in one direction or the other from the Mongols, history might have played out very differently. As it is, to be saved by a force of nature just reaffirmed for the people of Japan to value nature as a spiritual force of good, something they still do to this day. Japanese tradition gives everything in nature a spiritual essence if you will.
