Very helpful interview. This physician breaking down how to find this salary info and displaying it is very helpful to people who want to follow suit. Many physicians interviewed do not like touching on salary in depth at ALL! Of course it's not the reason to pick that career but it's still very important~ Thanks

Dr. Steven Bradley, you are well ahead of the game! Your decision to join the military has catapulted you not by rank but by experiences. Sometimes it's not about the money, sometimes it's about the environment you work in, your inner circle of colleagues. Where are you going to hone your skills as a doctor is the real question? Forget about the money , focus on the skills- thats what will make you money learning to do what others can't do - thats skill! When your skill is in high demand you will never struggle! Look around you thats a fact. Thank you for sharing you experiences.

Would there be any difference before residency and after residency ? Would i be an equal doctor like a doctor who had studied from start in usa ? In the civilian world board certified Dermatologists could make around $4.5 million in average in 7 years if they really "hustle". They would make around $1.4 million in the army in that time period. That 3 million dollar is really difficult to make up as they get older. Also high paying NPs and PAs make more than military docs in average. Unless you love the military it is not worth the financial loss and risk being in the mirary

Dr. Webb, Is it more important to do very well in undergrad or attend a very prestigious school, assuming med school is the future goal? And... a good chunk of you military pay in not taxed, so actually, you could add tax savings on top to get a better apples to apples comparison. Plus, no student loans to pay off at interest, plus, if I understand correctly, no malpractice premium to pay, plus the intangible of no insurance companies to deal with trying to justify treatments and get them accepted for coverage... your job is just to be a doctor and treat as you feel best. Plus, you're part of something bigger than yourself. Plus your patients are some of the best people in the world. Add in that while you are not guaranteed employment and retirement absolutely, you have a lot more stability, financial and otherwise that out in the civilian world. P.S. Third route to DoD MD is Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences Med School (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD on the Walter Reed Medical Center campus just outside Washington, DC... longer payback, seven years, but you are a commissioned O1 and paid as such and your job is to be a medical student... all tuition and fees paid as well, and they have their own military residency match in addition to the regular civilian match program. Like Hawkeye and Trapper John (or BJ) might say... "Finest Care Anywhere"... Cheers. :)

I sat down once watching some college football games at a bar and grill near Ft Lewis/JBLM and met a doctor who was young just hitting 30 and said the Millitary sent him to Georgtown and John Hopkins or some prestigious school and while paying for all his classes and paying him, he was talking about how he makes way more money then many doctors when you factor in not having to pay student loans and way ahead of the game owning homes at a young age since he did not have to pay back any loans. When i talk to people who's kids are thinking about medicine, it tell them about the benefits but its the look of horror that i see and stop talking about it.

I’d like to see a physician compensation report based on hours worked. I believe they include part-time in many of these surveys? I hear anesthesiologists can get 500k relatively easily for example. Maybe I’ve been told bad information.

Apparently 350-400 is the norm. But that also coincides with their great work like balance doing weekends and/or holidays in private practice can get them 500-600k+

@Dreamer-kd2jv
@Dreamer-kd2jv 4 года назад
500k is above average. It’s very possible to make this much, but it all comes down to how much call are you willing to take. Personally, I don’t see the point in making 500k+ if you can only see your family twice a week, and one of those days you’re recovering from a 24 hour call. To each his own though.
