I remember my dad leaving me and my sister in charge of the farm for a week while he and our mom took a vacation. I was 16. No major complications, but there was a chain on a self-unloading wagon which came apart that I repaired That was back in 1965.

That’s a great story. The best thing you can do for your kids is let them take ownership of things at a young age.

Nice to see a herd that is truly loved and well taken care of. In today's big herd and robot milkers they never get to just pet and scratch their cows. Back in the seventies we could identify every cow at least by her utter. I love cows

Do you use any artificial insemination to breed cows? Do you prefer dairy crosses rather than purebreds?

Howdy Darby, good to see you again ( along with all the guys). Videos are always well done and enjoyable to see. Do appreciate your efforts. Something to think about, our neighbors are putting in 6 Lely robots can not wait to see how that turns out. They are shooting to start on Parade Day.

That mold maybe try putting it in a place that u won't mow or cut it back into ur livestock. Mold will travel thru animals making them sick and spreading through the manure.

Maybe you need to look into getting one of those silage facing machines like “10 generation dairy” has that fits on your bobcat

Over the pond in the UK , we use shear grabs to get the silage/forage out of clamps, Leaves a clean face and doesn't go mouldy. It fits onto front end loader or skid steer.

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the metal "saw-tooth" apparatus hanging down above the cows in the stanchion? Never seen these before in our barns.
@Ironvalleylarry
@Ironvalleylarry 7 месяцев назад
It is used to keep the cow from messing to far up in the stall. She has to backup and hit the gutter. We never had them but I have seen them. Maybe someone can explain it better.
@JoeMahbalsich
@JoeMahbalsich 7 месяцев назад
@@Ironvalleylarry Thank You! I understand now in theory. But I think in reality, they would Need to be adjusted pretty accurately. Could see use for particular cows with “incontinence” issues!
@prariewindsfarm
@prariewindsfarm 7 месяцев назад
We always called them trainers. They did have to be adjusted for each cow. Our cows didn't have a stall of their own so we were always adjusting them.
@guydaubenspeck9206
@guydaubenspeck9206 7 месяцев назад
They are called a cow trainer they work on an electric fencer and they keep the cows from arching their back and putting manure on the stall deck rather than in the gutter. If they aren't their back up against the cow trainer it gives them a slight shock then they straightened back out
@LenKasten-h3f

You should check into one of those Silage Shavers that attach on the skid loader. They aren't as aggressive as using just the loader for scraping silage from you pile there for it will help cut down on spoilage/mold. 10th Generation Farmer on RU-vid uses one and they seem to work.

I enjoy watching your videos, I'm 70 yrs old in the lats 60 s worked on my 2 uncles dairy farms , they had little over 100 acres ea and rented ground . They milked 20-25 cows at each farm and they made a living . The tractors was a gas 77 oliver, Dexta 2000D and a Co-op 30 , they didn't have any big machinery debt so a small dairy herd was sufficient . My how things have changed , here in Central Ohio there was a dairy farm every 5 miles . Thanks for showing people how much hard work goes into farm work to feed the population, Love you FARMERS , SEGO RON

@reginabraok939

Perhaps you guys could do the research on an attachment for your skid steer to cut the silage away from the stack. Bring the research to the next family meeting, your parents may go with the idea if it improves feed quality!
