Today we are getting a lot done on the dairy farm in a short amount of time. We break out both of the skid steers to maximize our time. We hope you are enjoying the series of my brothers and I running the farm, because I know I am. Thank you all for watching!

You guys really keep a clean barn, and I like the way you clean the gutters before the morning milking. Have you ever considered wrapping those posts in PVC? It would be a lot easier to clean, and keep clean.

I milked on a 200 head dairy in the 80s had a double 6 herringbone when we started took 5 to 6 hrs to milk when we learned the herd real well and could make sure we didn't have 1 slow Miller with 5 fast ones we got down to 4hrs a milking production went up 2 to3 pounds per cow figured the more leisure time raised production at least that's what made sense

Tim from Canada… you live on a farm or are you have access to manure spreader?.. and you have outdoor wood-burning stove to heat everything if you were to back up your manure spreader to your wood-burning stove and put the ashes in the manure spreader, this will save you time and a lot of backbreaking work you do not have to do

You dont compost your manure I noticed ... Im sure you have massive amounts of manure being a dairy , but would it not be more beneficial to the fields to let it compost first ?? Just curious what your reasons/thoughts are on the subject of poo.

Proper composting takes space, time, and more equipment usage or special equipment for the volume that they have. Great question!

General rule of thumb on dairy farms is spread the manure in the fields during winter so it has time to gas off the acid. It will be a few months before they turn the soil and start planting. There is too much manure to store in the yard.

@@MorganOtt-ne1qj I guess that was part of my question.. Is it worth the time & space needed to compost that volume of manure .. Im sure speading fresh manure is a good organic source of nitrogen... I think composted manure has a higher nitrogen level since that volume of manure breaks down substantially and therefore the nitrogen is more concentrated... If you have information you can share on the subject , Id appreciate it..

@@pdrphil8159 "Raw" manure/litter/biosolids don't have immediate release of Nitrogen, it's 85%+/-, 85%+/-, and then the remaining the third year. Organic matter breaks down a bit faster, but composting accelerates that aspect of it, reducing volume. Phosphorus is about the same release time, but any Potassium is usually available in the first year. Organic waste is typically low on potassium, so you don't really count on it much. Proper composting requires regular turning of the product to maintain aerobic breakdown of the stuff. 6 month process under ideal conditions.

Hi guys, I'm interested in the exterior of your barn, it's brick! What is the story on that? I'm viewing from east central Alberta, Canada . Yes we get snow, some years lots of it. This year our cattlemen are worried about the lack of snow. Hopefully April rains will help. We are praying that the Lord will send the rains in its season!

Suggestion: Since you are not using ATOs you should cover in a video on when you know to it is time to detach the milkers? I can't recall ever seeing anyone going into detail on this.

WHO DOES THE COOKING WHEN YOUR FOLKS ARE GONE? DOES OUTSIDE STOVE JUST HEAT HOUSE OR DOES HEAT SHOP ALSO? GREAT JOB AT MILKING AND CLEANING UP MANURE. NICE WEATHER HELPS
