Bortle 1, cold beer, metal music and an epic astro plan. Sounds like an awesome night indeed! Good to see you back man. And what a stunning result, absolute masterpiece!
Hi John your panoramas are just unbelievable your channel has inspired me to get more into milky way photography than deep space just building my rig slowly at the moment I have purchased the star adventurer 2i ball head and ninja n6 so far your videos are just inspiring well done mate just keep them coming can't wait for the next one Chris
Well done, as someone with first year of nightscape under his belt this was informative at several levels. The resulting capture is absolutely incredible!!!
Great to see you out again. I look everyday to see if you are back. I totally understand getting too busy with life. I got out 2 times last year and a half - not near enough to feed my soul. The image and equipment are awesome and inspiring. Thank you!
Great to see another video. Incredible image! That setup you have is awesome, definitely outside of the box thinking. I was glad to see that you used those Atoll brackets. I saw those on a RU-vid promo video about a year ago, but I couldn't find them anywhere. After watching your video, I searched for them again. Amazon and the online camera stores finally have them! And for anyone else seeing this, if you have lens compatibility issues with the DSLR version, it looks like a new model is coming out in April that may solve that, according to the Amazon Q&A section of the product. 3 of my lenses probably won't work with the current model, so I'm waiting.
Pro tip for when the wind kicks up- have an xl golf umbrella! It will save you from the “wind trails” when tracking! Great image good choice for MW positioning!
Oh. My. Goodness. John that is an absolutely sensational image. The detail and the nebulosity from the h-alpha is just 🤌. Blew my mind. Great to see you back and glad you’re enjoying the new setup, which looks like an absolute unit. 👍
Good to see you back out there mate, Ripper shot !! Im gonna be shooting HaRGB arch mosaics with the Art 28/40 and 105 out in Namibia in a couple of months.
Wow John, what an awesome setup mate. Good to see you back on youtube. That final image is mind blowing. . well done my friend. I must say you're making me a little nervous holding all of that up with a single ball head ...!!!!
Thanks Richard 👍 is is good to get back out there after so long. I see what your saying with the ballhead, although it is rated for that weight I may look into other options for a base.
@@johnrutterphotography Yeah I'm sure it'll be fine but the weight isn't vertical through the ball so all the pressure is on that small part of the ball head more than the surrounding shell. Anyway, you captured a ripper shot there mate.
That is just such an incredible image, thank you so much for sharing the experience. interesting to see things from the ‘wrong’ side of the world too 😉
just got a GTI mount last night and now to set it up, but being a canon shooter cant see it coping with twin 1dxmkii's though. Good to see you back out there
What a come back Mate so glad to see a New Video up! Was getting Worried ! Wow Twin Sigmas being to think your part Mexican lol " Go Big or Go Home" lol
John thank you for the great video. I have not done a single panorama yet, but I am not new to deep sky astrophotography. I am still trying to understand how you move/rotate camera between the panels/shots. With GTi do you reset it back and level and then rotate the camera. Once you start shooting, your declanation bracket should not move, so I would think you need just to rotate camera to move to the next panel. Thank you for your response.
Amazing work! I was in that thread too where Dominik Hölzl nd Uros Fink added comments to your queries. Glad this all worked so wonderfully for you. Would you mind sharing your exif data for the astronomik HA camera a7s and R2 please?
Hi John very impressive shot. Hope you got that 40mm lens on sale on boxing day , it was on sale for $750 or so , i couldn't believe it so i grabbed one. i would also like to get out more , but like everyone else it seems ,no time. Should you feel the need to get inspired by gear envy , have a look at Steve Morris set up on you tube. Cheers
That's a great set up John. I'm leaning towards a Star Adventurer GTI as well. Using a single a73 & a 40mm art lens. Just curious - what specific move & shoot sequence worked best for you using this mount?
While using the gti I still put a ballhead and pano head on it as I would my standard star adventurer, so you can do any sequence you wish. The order in which I shoot totally depends on what I'm shooting and in what direction.
Great to see you back John! Totally feel you on the struggle of getting out over the summer months, it's been rubbish for astro. I was immediately thinking Steven Morris and "the twins" when I saw your new rig, you certainly can't be accused of not pushing the envelope. Just as impressive as the final result is your ability to maintain your focus for the entire shoot. I have no idea how you don't miss a beat for the entire night. Random question for ya. Do you have any issues with dust ingress into your ute canopy? My ute is tubbed with a lid and I find I can't put anything in there I don't want coming out caked in dust.
Hey man, cheers. I'm a bit behind Steven... he is onto the triplets 🤣 I'm just glad it all worked out to be honest, and don't worry there were points throughout the night when I just wanted to pack up and go to bed 😴 I have no issues with dust ingress at all. All my gear goes in the canopy, I have heard it's hard to seal up tups and lids and fibreglass canopys
Incredible John! My mind is blown. Twin camera set up looks amazing and the final result is your best image yet IMO. Curious to know what settings you used and steps used in post processing. I've developed a work flow that's been working for me but it's not easy integrating the h alpha data. Takes time to get the colour etc good but looks like you've nailed it right off the bat. Congratulations!
Cheers mate, 🍻 H alpha was f2 iso 3200 120 sec RGB was f2 iso 640 120 sec. My workflow was the same as normal until I added in the H alpha. It was a big learning experience and something I need to practice doing alot more.
@@johnrutterphotography thanks John. Gotta love those sigma lenses. My sigma 28mm lens is similar and performs really well at f2. Is the green you captured aurora or airglow?
You said it did not balanced properly? But it’s still good? I want to try this with my iOptron Sky Guider Pro and 2 different focal lenses on stock cameras.
John, what would be the difference if the camera you use for RGB imaging, wouldn’t be Ha modified, but with the default sensor? I’m wondering if you anyway capture the Ha narrowband with the other camera using the astronomic filter, wouldn’t that provide enough Ha data itself? Cheers, Peter
@@johnrutterphotography thanks so much for your replay! Let me have an other question: how does the different resolution of your two cameras affect the the post process workflow. If I’m correct, you use the high MP A7R II for RGB, and the rather low MP A7S for the Ha narrowband. How do you deal with the different resolution files that come from the different cameras? Cheers!
Hey John, I'm shooting an A7R IV, and I've not yet gotten a tracker, so I've been shooting my Sigma 40mm ART wide open, and I just noticed I have a ton of Coma. Have you tested the Coma to find out how fast it improves? Also, This is a WILD experiment!! It came out sooo great!
Hey mate, I haven't really done a test but mine is really good wide open, you may have a bad copy or maybe without a tracker it's small trails added to a small amount of Coma. With the resolution of the R4 it will show any trailing at all
Wow that blew me away! Orion with the milky way core, what a fantastic arch! How long did you need to edit? Did you blend the h alpha data before or after stitching ? Was it hard or could you just overlay the pictures? Nice foreground too!
Thanks mate, it took a long time. Probably 15 hours to put together, it will be easier the next time around as there was alot of trial and error, I added the data after stitching.
Hi John, with the indexing panoramic ball head do they stop moving for the camera to take the shot? I am considering getting one to add to my kit but I can't find out to much about them, I can see the basic specifications but that is all. The S/W GTi is on my to get list, its a pity that it won't do time laps and panoramas. I suppose that's where the indexing ball head comes in. And the Benro Polaris is definitely out of the question. Cheers Robert
Hey, is there a way to take Milky Way time lapses using the GTi mount. It is disappoint that there is a dedicated time lapse move on the SA 2i but not SA GTi. :(
This is so cool. Where is the limit? I have the semi-professional Astro-Mount Skywatcher EQ6-R Pro with a payload capacity of 20 kilo. You could mount 9 cameras (in 3x3?) on that. Together with an ASIAIR you could get the panorama fully automated. Oh jesus, i need clear skies ...
@@johnrutterphotography Yeah you are right. I am currently building a 1 by 3 array of triple Sigma 40mm in portait orientation with about 20% overlap on top of my EQ6R. I want to decrease capture time on that full milkyway arc or capture detailed closeups for 16:9 wallpapers in a single take.
He mentioned in an older video that getting to the screws to tighten/loosen on the Z-brackets were a bit finnicky so he ditched it for the ballhead setup.
Hi mate, is the counter weight arm an extended version or the one that comes with the GTi box? Also what weight is the added counter weight you have added to the counter weight arm?
