If she recently graduated, she is not a Millennial. She sounds like Gen Z.

GenX here. I had blue hair in college, in the 80s. I didn't have blue hair when I went on an interview with a Fortune 100 company. The problem with younger generations is that they expect the world to conform to them.

You say break the boundries, employers hear lawsuit, grievances and negative media attention.

How entitled can one be? Great answer, Mr. Harvey.

I don't want to work with anyone who comes in saying the rules shouldn't apply to them.

Sounds more like a gen z ( age of 27 or younger) if she is speaking about what her parents think. Millennials are ages 28-43.

I’m confused on why she’s associating being a millennial with tattoos and piercings. That’s 💯 her personal style & not a millennial thing. We don’t claim her🤣

A simple question to her question: are you good enough at what you do to even break the rules and still succeed? She talking about no one takes her serious because of her hair. Focus on producing amazing results first, then i guarantee you people will start taking you serious. Trying to break the rules should be the last thing on your mind if you have no results yet.

I am in my mid 40s now. In the late '90s, we dyed our hair and made styles to say that we will not conform to the societal norms. Now however, with the over abundance of narcissism as a commonality. Those who dye their hair now demand that's society (and all those in it) conforms to them and demand that this becomes the norm.

I guess I really got lucky because I interviewed for a supervisor position for the City, I had dark blue hair. Changed positions within the company, (had to interview for it) with a green pixie. This year makes 17yrs.

As a non-American I’d like to let you know that this problem doesn’t exist outside of the states, at least not to this extent

I am Gen X. We did all this sort of thing too when we were young. Millennials did not create any of this. However, we understood that they were going to be people older than us, interviewing us and having certain expectations of us. Many of us conformed enough to get work, or we created the work for ourselves. If this young lady does not have investors or capital to start her own firm, then she may want to use her natural appearance to work and wear a blue wig on the weekends to express herself.

She isn't a millennial!!!!

Millennials: I want to be different like everybody else.

Apply to marketing jobs at unique companies that support “freedom of hair expression”. Be prepared to have less options. Work as a barista or do something else in a creative field while your look for your dream job because it could take 3 to 20 times as long to locate this kind of company. Don’t complain or say it’s not fairvwhile you wait because you chose this path for yourself.

Sometimes it's better to be alone, No one will hurt you.

In marketing, IF she was good at it, she would see that you only have 30 seconds or so to effect the buyer. No time to change the people to simply change for YOU. If she cannot see that, she will not be hired

I wouldnt have a problem hiring someone with blue hair, but I would have problems hiring someone with that mindset "I am a millennial and you don't understand me and you should change"

the hair is perfectly fine but you better be prepared for the interview and the job. tell them you know your hair is not usual but you will be extra prepared do an excellent job for the company. questioning if a company should conform to you is the problem. it's your job with your expertise and drive to make them accept you.

The youngest millennial is 28, she is definitely Gen Z.

I am a millenial who has worn almost every color on my head but a rainbow itself. It depends on the field/profession you are looking to pursue.

If a man is really done with a relationship he will do whatever it takes to get away from that woman! Yeah she need to wait and see what’s going to happen in Feb. As a matter of fact if she really wants to know if the relationship is over just go over his house and asked the ex, bc if they truly not together you will know then!!

I’ve seen many people around me living under the same roof with their exes which is crazy! Their logic behind was because it wasn’t convenient to rent a full apartment. So, they had to pay twice the amount or they still had a few months until the end of their contract and wanted to take the advantage of it.

It really depends on if the firm is okay with it. And what you can bring to the table.

Being a mom is a very difficult job... if you don't discipline your children, if you let them think that they run the show, and simply because they are children they do not have to obey any limits. It is, indeed difficult as long as they are small and very needy, it is atrocious when they are 2-3 because that is when they try to assert their will and if you do not make them understand THEN that the parents are running the show, things will get uglier and uglier down the line.

I’m Gen x… In 1997 I was 17 and I had every color hair by this time. By the time I was 18… absolutely not.

I have a coworker in her 60’s with light purple hair and our boss is flexible. If you don’t have to work with customers, it’s easier. I don’t think she started with the interview with that hair but there’s a strict no discrimination rule in some places now.

You’re looking for a job in corporate America, they’re not looking for a job with you. Guess who has to conform in that power dynamic 🤔

So I believe the answer to her question is, if you want a job working for a particular company, then you have to comply to their company policies and standards. If you own a business, then obviously you can dress how you want, make yourself up to look how you want, also to a certain degree. Now if there is another company that offers the same services as you do, then people can choose where to do their business. Looks are the first thing people see, then you have attitude, personality, you have quality of your service and maybe other factors. So you just need to decide what you really want in life. If you just want to play around and have fun and be you then do that, but if you are serious about a profession, especially if it's a profession that requires you to look and act professional then there's that Factor, having a look and attitude that represents the company and yourself. I'd hate to see you lose out on a great opportunity because of your ego. Companies don't have to change their policies and standards because you have a different view of things. You are needing and wanting them, let them see you shine a and make them want you, not that you're not a pretty young lady because you are, but could you imagine how beautiful you would look with a professional makeover❤

It depends on who she interviews for. Like, a younger magazine. It depends.

For my job, staying at home watching the kids is easier for me. When 2008 recession hit, I was the head engineer at my company overseeing 12 people. Then I lost my job and my stay at home wife went back to work since she is a nurse and her field was hiring and mine was dead. We did this for 5 years and I can say without a doubt that watching my 1, 4 and 6 year old was a vacation compared to overseeing 12 people which was like having 12 kids. Not to mention I went to budgeting our household from projects where 1 mistake would cost more than our household annual budget. I must have done OK because now I have a college grad, junior in college and senior in high school and they are all doing fine and don't have blue hair.

That man thought raising kids was easy 🤭

I agree she should wait until the end of feb (last case), to see where he is at. Ive known a lot of couples that the romance was dead long before they were officially broke up so the 1 month per 1 year rule doesn't actually apply 1 to 1.
