VoicePlay is an entirely extra level. Plus they're independent and do almost everything by themselves. And they approach each song uniquely.

Thanks for your reaction! Don't worry about anything being too nerdy- we are here for it. Voice Play is very different from other acapella groups as they are completely independent, working without a record label or contract so they have complete control of their creative expression. They don't stay in the lines or conform to any imposed expectations for acapella music-- we all like to let our inner nerdiness come out with Voice Play. Looking forward to more reactions to Voice Play.

VP is God level with voice talent and cosplay. They’re literally called The Theater Kids of A Capella. Layne, the beatboxer, can rap too. They have a much older one, I Knew You Were Trouble, and Layne kills it. Check out their other video game songs or anything else that catches your eye and you won’t be disappointed. They’ve done Metallica, Billie Eilish, Aerosmith, Imagine Dragons-the list goes on. Then, they turn around and do classical, the Beatles, Disney (they’re from Orlando and have all worked at the parks ) Phil Collins and on and on. Geoff (Jeff) also has a solo channel. He does one from Red Dead Redemption and to see all of his talent in one song try Jack’s Lament from Nightmare Before Christmas. Dude has a 5 octave range and sometimes hits us with tenor belts. 🤯

Once you get in to VoicePlay, you'll be sucked in forever. They truly are next level. Once you get to Halo, Nothing Else Matters, Dream On, Seven Nation Army, so many more. You'll then see what they can really do. Keep in mind, no instruments.

In this video, Geoff starts with a 14 sec B0 and throws in a couple more during this. J None (rap - used to be the baritone for VoicePlay until the US Navy recruited him for his vocal talent. He's done 3 yrs so far, 2 more to go.) Cesar is the newest member and had the range to go from baritone to fairly high tenor which was important since they lost Earl (original member - high tenor) about 4 yrs ago and J None (baritone) about 3 yrs ago. Eli (rhymes with jelly) is high tenor but can drop it to very low is necessary. His high school was near VoicePlay's so they knew each other from competitions, after graduating he joined a couple of rock bands before joining VP in 2010. Layne is the beatboxer, baritone and also known as VioLayne and an original member along with Geoff since middle school as well as starting 4:2:Five, their original name for the group in 1997 before changing it to VoicePlay in 2012. Miracle of Sound raised 10 ale horns to VoicePlay for this video!

He starts with that B0 but walks it up to an E1 before coming into his solo. To hold a subharmonic that low that long is impressive by itself. To then shift it upward is next level... it is VERY difficult to slide a subharmonic like that without it going pitchy or failing entirely. Just Geoff being next level, lol.

The B0 held note they could not hear. I have noticed a lot of "noise cancelling headsets" damp that lowest note too much. I actually watch for it, because affects what songs I want to recommend.

Yassss! I recommended this to you. Thank you so much for checking them out. Never think something is too nerdy! The VoicePlay fans (VoicePlayers) want to see your reaction to ALL of it! Voiceplay are considered the theater kids of the acapella groups. They often put on full productions as opposed to just singing. But even when they are just singing you can see how creative they are even just in their arrangements. They also cover multiple genres and never stop surprising you. Geoff (Jeff) Castelucci is indeed a very deep bass singer but has a 5 octave range so he can also sing into the tenor range. I would absolutely love to see you react to more of them. Their latest is really fun, it’s called Classical Chaos. Subscribed in anticipation of more! 😅

@@GimmicklessReactions I'll second the above recommendation to check out their latest, Classical Chaos, but in addition to that, since you seem rather interested in the bass singer, he has his own solo channel where he does low bass singer covers. His name is Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci, and he covers a wide range of genres on his channel. I'm obsessed with one of his newest covers, also from a video game (Red Dead Redemption 2) and it's called Unshaken. His solo stuff is mindblowingly good, and when you realize that he does virtually ALL of it himself (filming, editing, arrangement, set design, costuming, and recording himself singing all the parts from low bass to impressive tenor) it makes you appreciate the sheer talent of the man. Be aware: in the majority of Geoff's solo videos, he clones himself 4-5 times, so you can see him singing all the different parts. Many first time reactors don't realize that all 4-5 men they're watching on the screen are the SAME man. The guy's got an unnatural ability to harmonize with himself so well, that if you didn't know any better, you'd think you were listening to an entire ensemble.

Great reaction - Voiceplay do everything themselves as they are fully independent PLUS they cover all genres you can think of. They have more gaming covers (you say you heard Dragonborn(Skyrim), but they also did Halo (as a tribute)) - incidentally Halo and Valhalla Calling has Geoff's lowest recorded note (B0). My personal favourite genre of theirs is their rock covers, but absolutely everything they do is top notch. They also direct their own videos with some hired help where required, but the one who arranges comes up with everything from start to finish. So choose your genre/song and go down this extremely wonderful rabbit hole with a very talented a capella group!! 🌹🕊

VoicePlay are in a league of their own. Being independent of any recording company gives them complete control over what they do. And they do a lot, in many genres, often in theatrical style. They put everything into what they do, so much emotion, and often give us chills. Geoff (say it Jeff) has his own channel of low bass covers.) His range is A0 to A#5. He is often heard being a bass guitar for the group.

Try Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Hoist the Colours Pirates of the Caribbean. Someone let Chicago know that VoicePlay had done's Metallica's Nothing Else Matters. They listened and contacted VoicePlay to join them on stage in Nov 17-18, 2023 for their Chicago and Friends concert. The stage manager didn't realize that they were acapella and asked where they were going to set up the drum kit. Eli pointed at Layne and said, "He's it."

The world record for low notes is held by a different guy (Tim Storms), but it's also several octaves outside the range of human hearing, so there are serious questions about how useful the ability to sing that low would be for a musician. Even Geoff's range goes low enough to fall outside the reproduction range for cheap speakers. Voiceplay tends to lean into genres with theatrical potential (Broadway songs, Disney songs, video game songs, etc.), but they do also do other stuff, ranging from Grieg to Metallica.

Geoff (pronounced Jeff) has a five-octave range. He can get well up into the tenor range, and occasionally he'll run all the way from the top to the bottom or vice versa in one go. His solo cover of 'I See Fire' showcases his abilities beautifully. Some other VoicePlay covers you might want to check out are Nothing Else Matters and Hoist the Colours.

The "record" that Geoff has is simply the lowest note HE'S recorded for a video - several B0s (including 3 in this video), and possibly an A0 in the VoicePlay cover of Enemy (that one seems to be still under discussion by musically-inclined reactors). His highest is an A#5 in the VoicePlay short/mini Peaches. He and Tim Foust (bass singer for Home Free) have almost identical ranges, so while both are extraordinary singers and basses, they're not record holders. The actual record for lowest note ever "sung" by a human is by Tim Storms, and it's well below a piano, a note that's at about 12 Hz (beats per second - an A0 is 27.5 Hz). It's well below the range of human hearing (about 20 Hz for a young person in good health), almost all microphones (which usually only go down to 20 - 50 Hz), and almost all speakers (again, 20 Hz low end) - you'd need special equipment to even know he was making a noise, and you'd have to "translate" the sound up at least an octave to be able to hear it. Or bring along an elephant, which can be rather inconvenient!

J None, the rapper, left the group to join the Navy, but comes back to be in some videos. And Geoff Castellucci, you can find his solo vids too... can go "sub harmonic," as well as crazily high too. But, don't forget - they're acapella! No instruments. You should check out their versions of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters," and Radio Head's "Creep." AND! Egads! lol "In The Air Tonight!"

Aww, would have loved to see Dragonborn, you'll find many of the VP people are especially nerdy and very 'ANYTHING' VoicePlay. Don't get us started on the Chicken Song🤣 They have several songs with rap in them, Layne in I Knew You Were Trouble/As Long As You Love Me and J again in Superstition for starters. Current record holder: Tim Storms A capella: Tim Foust in growl, but I think Geoff now has a subharmonic as low as Tim's lowest A0. Also both Adam Rupp and Layne both have low throat bass notes almost as low or as low. (I know Rupp gets as low as Tim.)
