Boomers don't believe there is a problem and Gen Xers just don't care. They're used to living like they're in Lord of the Flies. They enjoy watching Millennials suffer in this system because they despise us
they kept telling us we are the future, but have never given us the chance to shine. i am trying so hard for what? the chance to RENT a house thats the same price as buying something dang near caving in? while spouting on to my child how theyre the future?
We are the future. The only problem is that they distract us with utter bullshit to divide us. We often focus on the minority instead of the majority. There is no point. They do not listen. They do not care if we voice our values and opinions. They want us to talk so they can silence us. We just have to come to understand their tactics to get on their level
Some people say it's always been that way. But they are lying. Private corporations, institutions, and some government agencies slowly made it that way. Keep working for change. They changed on you, change it back for yourselves.
Once the government started paying for people to go to college it opened the flood gates for colleges to jack up prices cause no matter what they are getting paid from the government while the kid is stuck with paying off the money with interest. Keep government out of all private institutions and everything will be fine once they get their hands on something it turns to shit
Yes and no. The standard for governance throughout history has always been an authoritarian one where the rich and powerful rule. The U.S. and a small number of others are exceptions. The issue now is that we are becoming more authoritarian by the day. Oddly enough, this authoritarianism mostly comes from the "Liberal" side.
The issue is not that the system changed, it's that millenials and younger have been raised to be consumers, and to live beyond our means. "engagement rings were a sign you're rich, but if you take a loan, you can look rich" "big weddings were a sign you're rich, but if you save for years, you can look rich" ect. They teach us, that it's more important to look rich, then to be rich which leads to a never ending cycle of debt.
Thank you for having the sense to understand that it's corporations and government both causing this. Most people seem to thing it's one or the other. It's both working hand in hand. It's no coincidence that small businesses were destroyed during the pandemic while Walmart made record profits. The regulations were designed to help the corporations and crush their competition.
Hearing that makes me grit my teeth, because I had college professors tell me and my whole class TO OUR FACES that colleges weren't fair anymore. One art professor (eternal thanks, Professor S!) Told us that he had attended the same college he was teaching us at, and that for him (in the late 70s) classes had been FREE! As in, YOU DIDN'T USED TO HAVE TO GO INTO CRUSHING DEBT TO GET A DEGREE!!!
I remember hearing all those things growing up. People want to blame millenials and younger for debt, but everyone around us was telling us to go into debt because it was "good" debt. Those same people profited off that debt and the college systems, now they told us we should have known better. Now they're mad we can't buy things and keep the economy going.
who are you talking about? the more than 70% who seem to figure it out aren't the uber rich, they aren't the ones you are talking about and yet you just keep complaining. Stop crying about the result of your decisions in this world, get off your mental couch, start working within the system and make goals for yourself to be able to retire under 40 years, whatever makes you feel good. Every generation has it rough, every generation has crashes, market collapses, wars and money problems. Rip off the diapers, take out your binky and get to work!
that's exactly why now they've switched the narrative to "you don't have to go to college, become a skilled worker, be a manual laborer" whenever someone mentions how expensive education is. they need people to flip their burgers and fix their cars. that's also why they care about the low birth rates and overturning roe v. wade. it's never been about what's best for us, it's always been about money and having a working class/consumer to serve them.
@@jeryncambrah every society needs a class system. you need burger flippers and "Don't go to college" does not mean you are relegated to burger flipping. I'm a teen, and I remember hearing of how much houses are, see how much my parents pay for gas, groceries, etc. I'm scared to become an adult. I feel like I'm screwed from the start.
Better to know that you're in a trap, than to walk into it thinking you have a chance, like what they did to us Millennials. Here is some advice, if you want it: Do not waste excessive time with employers who don't pay well or mistreat you. They won't get better. Set an earning goal and once you reach it, leave. Don't explain yourself. Give 2 weeks notice only if you want/need references. If you can get your general Ed out of the way at a community College, do that. They're usually cheaper. Don't let college counselors jerk you around about classes; get your class plan and stick to it. Transfer when you need to. If you plan to go to a technical/trade school, make sure they are accredited. I have friends who spent years and thousands of dollars on degrees that are worth about as much as the paper they're printed on, because the schools were scam for-profit "colleges". Please be careful who you trust with your plans. There are a lot of people out there who will pretend to be your friends, only to give you terrible advice because they either make bad choices for themselves, or because they don't want you doing better than them. This includes family members. Be safe. I hope you find good people and a decent job and are able to hold onto them.
Be prepared to fight and play underhanded against them. They have written the rules so they may never lose. What incentive is there to follow the social contract when basic milestones for happiness become unreachable? Im reminded of a quote from pirates for the Caribbean. Will: "you didn't beat me. You ignored the rules of engagement. In a fair fight I'd kill you." Jack: "that's not much incentive for me to fight fair, then, is it?"

I was told all of these things as a kid as well, however the silent part about debt was never said out loud. My parents also got me started well; 529 plan, my dads post 911 GI bill, and im STILL STRUGGLING. I have 2 degrees, work as a nurse, and at 28 years old i finally bought a house and have a car paid off. Trying to find a home was a nightmare, and i was terrified i would never be able to afford a home before i was 30. Now im worried i wont have enough time to start a family, and if i do i dont know if i can afford to. Ive never been able to seriously consider having kids because i can barely afford to care for myself let alone another human being. Now that i work with children, i dont push these norms on them. College =/= equal success.
I'm so glad to hear some things are working out for you. At 28 having a house and a car paid of is a huge deal! Don't lose hope of something you really want, it may be difficult but you still have time ✨
What’s even crazier is your dad had to serve for you to get those educational benefits. Like yeah he totally set you up and that’s great, but I wish we lived in a system where that wasn’t necessary. I’m saying this as someone who joined the military partially for education benefits as well.
I’m also 28 and feel you. My mom worked at a small, religious university, so they only made me pay half tuition. I worked hard to pay for the other half and got some need-based scholarships. My husband worked hard to get academic scholarships that covered his schooling at the same university, and we ended up graduating debt free 🎉🎉 That was my biggest goal going into college. We got married and graduated after the pandemic hit, so in spite of saving every penny we could, the housing market keeps staying ten steps ahead of us. I’m now pregnant with our first, and we can’t afford for me to stop working (at least I work from home), but I am so grateful for everything that came together to put us in a relatively solid position. Hopefully things get better soon for all of us. ❤
I was lucky to have a real economics teacher in high school. He was honest and said teaching was pretty easy as long as you stayed organized. He worked three jobs (teaching, coach for track and field, and worked as a waiter at a Cracker Barrel). Told us that the system was rigged and that it would take a lot of work to clear it out. Told us to make our own retirement. Told us that employers were often not very loyal and that we would need to fend for ourselves and rely on the people we could trust. It was all around great advice and I wish my parents told me that same stuff too
The best advice is no longer the best advice if everyone knows it. If everyone had this knowledge the system would not be so terrible that this knowledge is needed.
This is exactly what I told my kids. Btw, you cannot afford to not have these days! Marry for love and common goals and STAY MARRIED! Strong families can and will survive, just like forever.
No one taught me this by I learned it by watching the companies both my parents worked for treat them like garbage despite them both being great employees My mom was laid off illegally. My dad has worked for the same company for like 20 years and the milestone year “acknowledgements” are a joke. He’s been a remote employee for over 10 years (well before Covid). He developed a physical disability that means right now he can’t drive and walking much if at all is very difficult. But he can still work from home. His company is fully aware of this but still tried to make him move across the country so that he could work in an office under threat of firing. The companies aren’t our family and friends. Don’t be loyal to them.
Most of it was good stuff. I think planning your career while in high school should have been added. Leave out the rigged part as it leaves you with a victimhood mentality.
This is a bipartisan issue. We need to stop focusing on culture wars and protest the greed and corruption in the government. I don’t know if I can raise a family with these prices. As a young man my hopes of raising a family are cryshed

Our economy now runs on selling debt. And it's failing. It's been failing. And in order to stop it from failing, the big guys at the top need us to go into more debt. 15 years ago, you couldn't get a car loan for more than 4 years. How long are they going for now? And mortgages? They're selling you debt.

I don’t regret going to college and getting my doctoral degree. However, I’m pissed that I was fed the narrative that it’s the only way for most of my life. What also pisses me off is that education is what sets so many people into the whirlwind of not being able to afford a home. If the government would get out of the business of financing and backing loans, schools wouldn’t hike the price up to extortionate levels.
I visited the county fair yesterday and stopped by a stand selling fancy cookware. When I asked about the price, the guy immediately said, "These are really expensive." 😩

I’m tired of the rage/despair cycle, but no one has any idea what we should do to fix the problem. Any ideas?!

Im late Gen X (1979) and I agree with this messaging. We have a growing class divide and already it is ruining the America I once loved. Its not fun to live here when so many are suffering. It feels less safe because everyone is suffering and thats the part I hate the most. I have my 3% fixed mortgage but the cost of everything else is crazy. When you do go out in public everyone looks beat up, weary, unkept and in f*ck it mode like senior year in HS. Most people out in pajamas and crocs running errands. No one gives a sh!t anymore because they look tired from working 2-3 jobs.
What am I supposed to do? Vote? No one can predict which campaign promises are lies, hyperbole or truth at the local, state or federal level. The system encourages deception. How does voting give me power if the system guarantees that I never know who I’m voting for?
Once in a blue moon a candidate does everything they promised they would once they were elected. But yeah, I've never seen any of them talk on this HUGE issue...
Education is key. The more you understand, the less you are fooled. Become immune to be and media manipulation. Accept the fact that no candidate is perfect, and not everyone is going to go the way you want. Learn about your local and federal politicians. Realize that the less informed and disinformed a populace is the less likely they'll vote in the common man's favor, then personally choose not to be misinformed and distracted by frivolous talking points. Stay humble and don't rely on emotions and know that the person you are talking to is a human and not a walking ideology, despite their best efforts to prove you otherwise That's close to everything I'd suggest without injecting my own personal biases too much. One last thing, and likely my most controversial take, is know that evil is a very real thing, but people are mere vessels for dangerous ideas and terrible actions
Vote, yes, because we can't simply lose hope in leadership across the board. But more importantly, opt out of the corporate welfare state and do everything possible to make your community self-sufficient. Here's what I mean: everywhere possible, refuse to spend your money if it ends up in hands outside of your community. Talk to local farmers and businesses about that plan and get as many others in it as well- try for discounts or coupons based on community economy with the farmers and businesses. Talk to other members of the community about things they would like to see happen, find someone who wants to run a business like that, and support the growth of that business. Start small, and slowly pull your money from Walmart, Amazon, and everyone like them. After all, without them, we survive just fine. Without us, they go bankrupt. They all either get with our program or they don't survive.

It's because houses are treated like investments rather than homes. The UK is the same. The problem here is that the people who actually live here do not earn enough to be able to compete in against international millionaires and investment funds in the residential investment market. I mean housing market..... Once residential property started to be treated like shares and bonds, the problem was inevitable. Developed countries like the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, etc etc, economies that international investors see as attractive property investment nations because of their stability, need to start imposing strict restrictions on the purchase of residential properties by non-residents, non-domiciles and investment companies. They're literally turning the essential human need for shelter into a ponzi-scheme that is destroying the lives of millions of people and crippling these economies.
I'm 40. No debt. No kids. But I also had no credit because I didn't have debt. I tried to apply for my first credit card and was denied. This system is so stupid.
Uncontrollable debt is one thing, but Jesus dude. Did you not trust yourself for 22 years with a credit card? A $500 credit card will turn into $5k in a couple years by literally doing nothing. No annual fees or charges or interest if you just pay it off. I'm sorry you got lied to bro.
The system is absolutely insane with regards to credit cards/credit scores. Paying off a card and closing the account is bad. Keeping a balance is good, unless it’s too high. Having a mortgage is good, having loans is good unless it’s bad. The only thing that makes sense is paying your bills on time, every time. But then you get no sympathy points if you have a brain cramp and forget to pay one bill once in 40 years. 🤦♀️
@@vmj255 I'll give you the reason. It's still a buisness, they have $, you want $ early. I make zero money but I put up the risk of some life event making it so you can't pay me back. If I can't make any money off you even at 4% a terribly generous loan, why would I loan you the money for a house; especially when you have no record of working with loans.
I’m 25 I realised 5 years ago that the system is not only crooked but needs a complete do over. Before these years I thought reform was the way to fix the small issues one saw. But they are all part of one big problem
Everyone in my family and beyond told me to go to college, but I saw how they were all barely making ends meet and never working in their field. So I got into the trades and make good money and if all goes well I'm on the trajectory to buy a house.
Heyyy good for you man, I'm in the same boat, I'm training to be a butcher after my parents have been telling me to go to college my whole life, I should be fine if robots don't replace my job LOL
The only reason you're making good money in the trades is because most people didn't do it. Your wages will drop when the labor supply goes up, which is what'll begin happening soon as people realize the value of a college degree wasn't what it once was.
@@gamefan7321 I imagine a lot of people who didn't do well in school find themselves attempting something in the trades as they don't see themselves as college martial. However, as I'm sure you already know as someone who's done well in your vocation, the habits, application, and focus necessary to do alright in school are necessary life skills one needs to have to do well in anything. Schools also don't teach or practice dexterity and they neglect the arts which would absolutely prime students for the trades. Participating in your schools theatre program for example teaches basic carpentry, painting, construction safety, lighting/electric, sewing, "3d" thinking, design, use of power tools, delivering results on a timeline, working with cross functioning teams, project management, budgeting material, and troubleshooting inevitable glitches that come along the way. Trades are like anything else, people that have a natural talent for it will pick it up faster than others. But there's a lot more we could be doing to instill a basic understanding in young people to help them do well if they decided to go that route. I think the pool of people you mentioned who couldn't hack it probably struggled to do well at anything and likely have low faith in their ability to stick with it and are generally demoralized. Which is sad. Anyway, you better believe if the best and brightest start prioritizing a career in the trades that things will change in your industry. You got in at a good time when competition was low due to cultural attitudes. Not disputing your talent or ability. Just that I think the pendulum will swing and change things as college degree ROI continues to drop in value. The reason degrees once guaranteed high wages was because there weren't too many people who went to college and as an employee you could leverage that scarcity to demand a higher salary, and of course bring value to an organization with your additional education. Now the market is oversaturated with degrees and the ability to leverage your knowledge for a higher salary just isn't there. The basic laws of supply and demand apply to the labor market too. When the supply of talent in one area goes up beyond market demand wages fall. If the supply of talent is low relative to market demand in a particular field the opportunity for someone in that area to make great money is there. Trades are no exception. Save your money while you're still in a good position and don't take it for granted. I really think it's going to change in the next decade or two.
Keep it up and do whatever you can to start your own business. I basically run around and fix commercial projects like a handy man, did 391k last year by myself. Construction has never been this good in my 25+ years of working.

We are trying but we need help! We need to order generations to vote with us to stand with us so that their kids and grandkids aren't homeless and starving, so that the earth will still be habitable in the next few generations and beyond. Many older generations say the kids can do it and don't try to help us they just think we can do it on our own but that doesn't work we need the older generations to listen to us and take action WITH us. If you are already that's great! This is more to those who think they don't need to help us/ that we don't need the help.

I've been aware of the abuses of the redundant and overbearing Federal Govenrment and its partnership with corporate globalists for decades. I've been voting Libertarian for the last 25 years and supporting as many initiatives towards this singular goal- returning the power to the 4th and most powerful branch of American governement- The People- such as an Article V Convention of States. I'm so excited to see a proactive and goal-oriented perspective towards changing the issues at the root of Federal government fraud, waste, and abuse. If all the people who felt like "middle of the road" voters and the 50-60% of voters who don't vote would choose Libertarianism at every level of government, it would be far easier to accomplish these goals. If you want a good example of what that would look like fiscally, examine Gary Johnson's two terms as Governor of New Mexico. He vetoed over 750 redundant, expensive, and unnecessary state level bills. At the end if his tenure, New Mexico was deep in the black again. This video is correct- it hasnt always been this way. In 1776 we went to war over a 3% Tax and we didnt have a true income tax in America until 1913, which was the same year the FED- the US component of non-governmental global organizations of bankers who control all markets- was established. In 1933 the plan was solidified when FDR executed Executive Order 6102 requiring all Americans to voluntarily surrender all gold and bullion to the US government, and our official currency became fiat - the first kind of semi-virtual currency. i.e. It was backed by gold, but not enough to support the value of the dollar, and since then the federal government and its bankers have been manipulating those values to their benefit and our expense. We are now nine years away from the Centennial anniversary of that Executive Order, and I would love to see us return the power to the people before then. Keep fighting, friends.
Oof! Shocker that no older people are coming in to try and fight what you said(sarcasm). Keep fighting these bastards and bitches who want us to die broke and in debt.
As a GenX I wish you luck. My generation was too small and the boomers still too young and powerful to relinquish control. There is a reason we are rarely mentioned (until recent memes)
the boomers still aren't relinquishing control. question is, when GenX takes some of the powerful seats....will they follow in the boomers' footsteps.....I think GenX will
I keep struggling into making people (older generation) understand that just because "thats how the world is" it doesnt have to be like that. WE are the world, we are who make the part of it. If we change ourselves we change the world
Yeah, people are choosing between Trump and Biden and they’re not looking at alternatives. People are too well trained by corporate powers we need to address that first
When one of the candidates isn't looking like he'll try to permanently make himself president and have the backing to do it, we can focus on the actual issues. Annoyingly, the Republicans have now realised "Be loud" is more popular than "be smart" Edit: the liberals aren't much better, but if they stopped trying to desperately appeal to the center right, they could get genuine change done
I saw someone say that corporations basically have written *those* rules for us to follow and stay broke, my response, don't follow the rules. This is the time to take back power to the people, and there are more of us than there are of them.
I'm so grateful that my college admissions officer didn't believe me or help me when I said my parents refused to give their information for the FASFA. I was worried about my future without an education, but now I see how student debt and extremely narrow, specialized knowledge are used to trap my peers into careers where they work 80 hours per week just to scrape by.
I need to see results. This commercial is everything! Old heads in all 50 states need to see this, especially in our most wealthy of states. I’m looking at you Washington State and California! 👀
Perhaps america could adopt some kind of mixed member proportanint system that works with there current goverment set up so that the big two party's have to work with 3rd party's rather then this old first past the post system where it's either one party or the other.
Absolutely right. Things are horrible. I’ve just been thinking for a long time now, how can we fix it? Government and corporate greed are the causes of most of all this mess. What can the average person do against “the man”?
That’s not that bad. I know people whose daycare was as much as their mortgage back in 2000. Also asked my doctor at the time what her school debt was like & she just rolled her eyes
Yes! We need to remember as the people we have so much strength and power together. The government just wants to divide and conquer keeping their families in power, but the time is coming where we need to stand for each other. No matter our differences we are all breathing human beings who work very hard for our families and are tired of seeing the abuse of power. Remember to stay strong and do not give up because when the time comes. I will stand by your side when we fight together against this govt. We will all stand together united ❤ Don't give up ❤
My fiance and I really want to start a family. We both have full time jobs but can't manage it. We're stuck in a 1-bedroom apartment because it's rent controlled. Thank god for rent control because we'd be homeless if it didn't exist!
@@khayon4364 In 2011 Obama repealed old monopoly and foreign investment laws that allowed foreigners to buy unlimited homes in the US as well as investment companies. Some of the laws were over a century old, others were from the late 1970's. The data shows home prices rise instantly after he signed it. It was big news in China where I lived at the time as people were excited to either buy or invest in American real estate. No one in congress is talking about this because they don't care.
If we want to make a change, we're going to need someone who isn't a convicted felon serial liar or a mentally unfit geriatric to lead. Too bad those are our two choices for the next four years.
No, this goes beyond that. The entire system is set up for you and I to remain under the thumb of the elite. I feel like such a dirty conspiracy theorist when I say that, but it's true. While Jeff Bezos is flying to space, we're having to decide how to make top ramen differently today. 🤷♂️
@@caramela4830 There's also a guy running who legally changed his name to "Literally Anybody Else" for the sake of this election. If I'm considering voting for RFK, I may as well vote for LAE. The vote will count the same either way.
@caramela4830 i would think about it until i say the clip of calling the majority of Americans stupid . Just another elitist who thinks they are more capable to run the country and world than those who have to live in this country and world . And when they think you are all stupid , your desires and voice mean absolutely nothing to them .
As someone who never had a good family. Education and housing have always been close to out of reach and we desperately need change. I’m a machinist in Canada and I lack the generational wealth to actually push ahead
What's coming is called carbon units. So even if you own your land you don't own the air. You must pay to run tractore or harvest crops or clear brush. It's already in S America
*And yet they criticize and make fun of people who don't follow this system.* Who don't want to buy a house, don't want to have children, don't want to go to college, don't need the latest things, who are happy with the little things in life. 😒
I love that all of your videos highlight and repeat that "there is a problem" over and over, and I've never seen a hint or allusion to any kind of solution.
Every one of my nieces & nephews that say they don't think they want to go to college, I tell them don't! Got to a community college for a trade like electrician, welding, or plumbing. They make good money without the severe education debt burden! And I say this as a university college educated woman 🤦♀️
