I rarely echo opinions back to people. It actually makes my life difficult. I often find myself arguing, but that’s not because I’m being combative. Rather, most people I come across in conversation are so used to having people agree with them and regurgitate what they’re saying that they’ve become uncomfortable and defensive when someone counters them. Or even dismissive of my opinions which is the most frustrating. People who have been told so many times by other people who either think like them- or by people who didn’t want to risk confrontation- that they’re right, start to think that their opinion is fact. So when conversation about serious issues come up and my opinion differs from theirs, very often it gets argumentative and combative. Echo chambers are the worst because no one adds anything to the conversation. And the worst part is that it often regards touchy subjects that are hard to approach. Ones with no simple answer that need us to discuss them. Problems of our world today. And they treat the solutions they suggest like it’s obvious, but there are always reasons to counter why those things don’t currently exist and I’ll play devil’s advocate if they’re going to ignore the glaring issues with their suggestions. Anyone who treats a serious complex problem like it has an obvious easy solution is usually in an echo chamber.
I relate to this, a lot. I've been said that I like to argue... I just don't echo chamber very often. Plus, it is not useful for anyone. Example, I played witha a drummer (he was having some mental health issues, found out later, so I am not hard on him) who would claim to the band about the flat earth , and no one would argue with him. But I just couldn't get it slide, so I tried to explain in many different ways (mainly inductive) why that was not true. Of course, I endded up as "the devil's advocate", as you correctly said.
I have this issue all the time especially with my dad who has been a chaplin a pastor a counselor and a business owner but can’t hold a conversation with his own son without getting upset and being dismissive when we disagree

Okay this made me realise I do this sometimes when I feel uncomfortable in situations. When I’m talking to someone I don’t know what to say sometimes I just repeat what they say but word it differently. I remember I made a personal experiment on Reddit for myself. I wanted to see if I could pull a person out of their “echo chambers” by downvoting. My hope was without the dopamine hit of a liked comment they would pull away from their excessive use of those platforms. I found a active Redditor that bounced around socialist, millennial, and doomer Reddits. The guy made around 4-12 comments a day. It would be dozens if someone engaged his comments. What I did was downvote his comments that were repetitive with several accounts. If he or she made that comment repeatedly such as shamming boomers or shaming capitalism then I would downvote. Occasionally I would comment a shaming comment under it. With a different account of course. After a couple days I found that my downvotes did nothing. I would downvote 7 or 12 times and there would be a equal number of upvotes. Or more to favor the comment they made. I came to the conclusion that these echo chamber righteous idiots protect themselves by upvoting any comment that favors their ideals. In order for me to put a dent in a echo chamber I would need an army of bots that would randomly downvote an entire Reddit page randomly. So the comments always show up as a negative views. Meaningful societal change isn't done incrementally. Small individual changes give the illusion of control in a system designed to isolate and quarantine individualistic behaviors.
