Paris was chosen to celebrate the transition to the year 2000. The event was broadcast in 50 countries and seen by 2 billion viewers. It was a very nice New Year's Eve despite the disaster that shook France a few days earlier, in this case these two storms which were the most violent in the country.

I remember seeing that on TV special in France because the direct live broadcast all around the world allowed a glimpse of all the different countries fireworks thanks to the jet lag depending on the time zone. The first ones being from Pacific and Australia with fireworks at the Harbour Bridge in Sydney and Opera House and finished with Hollywood letters in LA and the Golden Gate in San Francisco. Despite all the different amazing things done it’s the Eiffel Tower which was in the cover of all the magazines everywhere the next morning and voted the most impressive of all. But it was also voted because of the specific installations for the Millenium celebrations in Paris with the 12 decorative big wheels (6 of each sides) in the Champs Élysées. Twenty years later, the fireworks have improved even more thanks to the lighting displays and still a breathtaking sight to see when you are lucky enough to get here at the time of the year. The 14th of July (Bastille Day) is a good option too.

I am commenting now. PARIS had the most spectacular fireworks of all. Wish the internet had been more developed and accessible in 1999. I could have watched this live on a Paris France TV station. The French really showed their originality New Years eve 1999.

I flew from Mexico to welcome the year 2000 in Paris. I was at the Eiffel Tower from noon, right at the front and center of the permitted area, sitting on the pavement while more and more people from many countries arrived by thousands over the hours. I had no idea what would happen at midnight, but I knew I had to be there because something unprecedented was going to happen. It was truly a life experience!

First time the Eiffel tower had the beacon at the top, the flickering lights, and the fireworks fired from all it's length !

Why hasn't people commented on this? This was the biggest new year celebration in the world. We welcomed the new millennium as we went from 1999 and welcomed in the new year 2000 even though the real new millennium started officially in 2001. I would think young people (teenagers) today would be interested in this since this was the year that rang in the decade of their births. And to think we were also paranoid of Y2K scare and hoping that the power grid wouldn't go down when the clock struck mid night.

HAHA yeah I remember Y2K lol. I never actually thought anything would happen, but I knew people that legit thought the world was gonna end hahaha

The millennials officially were people born in either 1982 or 1984 to people born in 1992 ir 1994 . I think at least according to google.some consider 1980 to 1994

@@winniejohnson5559 Yeah I was born in 1982 so I guess I'm considered a millennial. I was 17 on new years eve 1999 going into 2000.

People like to mock the fear, but it was for a very good reason. Many computers were corrected, and so "not much" happened, but some things did happen. That night I watched the new year role in in Paris, France. At the stroke of midnight, their computer system scrambled, live on the air, and the light display had a nonsensical pattern. In Canada, a water treatment facility dumped what was altered to 100 years worth of poisons into the water supply, and 9 people drank their home water and died before they could warn people. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9 “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” Romans 3:19-20 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10

@@winniejohnson5559 that is based on claims today. They are rewriting history, for whatever reason. In an episode of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, which I believe was filmed in either '92 or '93, Jimmy is called Generation X, and he was born in the 1970's. I was born in 1980 and distinctly remember being a Gen Xer. My brother was born in '82, and Sister in '85. All of us, including my next door neighbour who was born in the mid 70's all were called Generation X. Old commercials from the 90's talk about us being Gen X. Someone(s) today, who either never lived back then or want to alter history, are changing the definitions.

Showing this to my daughter on New Year's Eve eve as we now prepare to do this all day tomorrow -- follow New year's Eve around the world yet again. This was SPECTACULAR. To the designers of the show --- WELL DONE! To the pyrotechnicians, WELL DONE! To the laborers who did the installing, wire work, setting up the ignitors and timing and transistors etc, WELL DONE!! To the admin and politicians at the top who approved this show, WELL DONE! To all who worked on this AND IT WORKED ---- WELL DONE!!

Hello. A couple of days ago I uploaded videos from the millennium videos too, but from Prague ( first video from Wenceslas Square at 23:35. The second one from Old Town Square with Czech countdown from the main celebration and the third video is a walk through Paris street directly to the main celebration with a monstrous firework. It was a very raucous celebration. It was amazing. Hope you enjoy the videos. The main thing is that I experienced this. It's a very nice memory of a huge celebration of the new millennium. Thank you for your attention and your very nice video. Greetings from the Czech Republic.🙂

It’s more of a celebration of saying “deux-Mille” (2000) instead of “mille neuf cent quatre-vingt dix neuf” (1999) lollll
