It's not glamorous, it's not exciting, but it must be done! I really needed to service my early 1990 Miller welder... This includes oil change, fuel filter, spark plugs, and air filter. This glorious piece of vintage equipment piggy backs the 1970 F350, the workhorse and mobile command center of my life and all needs to be operating at her best this winter.

I inherited a Lincoln Ranger 8 from a friend that passed away, well I basically took it from his yard before his sister stole all his stuff because I basically did all the work on it and she refused to pay me what he owed me. Took a whole bunch more but that's another story. It's still going strong after 5 digits hourwise, powered everything from MIG/TIG machines to my house during a snowstorm that took out delivery lines for a week last year. I'm in upstate NY and we see -25 on a regular basis for 2-3 months a year. Always got the good old wood stove for survival, we ain't goin nowhere, lol. Keep up the content, reminds me of my own little shit show, lovin it!

Thoughts on ways to keep a mig machine dry and same but still be vintage looking in this truck? I've got a little Lincoln 140 Mig that I want on my truck and run off the miller but 1) don't want it to get ruined 2) don't want a shiney new red welder on there. Maybe hidden in a water tight rusty job box?

@@route40rust A 140 could fit in a large old style metal Igloo cooler, weather tight but not all that secure unless you add some locking latches and bolt it down with distorted threads underneath. I put my MIG/TIG stuff in saddle mounted boxes from HF or Northern. Just a suitcase TIG and a cheap HF flux core but a job box would definitely work and maybe keep prying eyes away by looking crappy, lol. We don't have much crime in my town, but when I travel I stow my leads in a locking box. It's sad out here these days for working folks. 250' of 1/0 leads is REAL expensive and I'll get physical in a heartbeat if I'm gettin thieved.

Hey man! Just picked one of these up, an '82. what kind of leads do I run with this? Theyre the really small holes that dont look like the regular twist and lock lead ends that we see more of today

I use tweco leads. You should be able to swap out your female terminal ends that are on the machine (they're just held on with a big nut) and run any gauge leads you want.

I worked on quite a few them legend, unit . Can’t get pc boards from them any more . If batteries. Get weak on it don’t jumpstart it . Might blow the PC boards . Trickle Charge the battery. Or replace it. I use champions. RS17YX for the Onan motors .

Thanks for the jumping heads-up. My legend doesn't charge the battery anymore so I usually have it on a trickle charger or solar. I have long jumper cables in my job box if I'm ever in a pickle. Now I know!
