I'm a 62 year old white woman who's loved Millie since the 70's. I went to one of her concerts in the late 70's in Opelousas, Louisiana, and my group of 4 were the only white people in the building (that we saw)! It was the best concert I've ever attended. I've been telling my friends about her ever since.
Got you big sis, on point. As a grown up 👩, now got you, I understand. Lesson learned ,point taken. Thank you for awareness, even though we learned hard way. All said, well taken, still repeating same thing. Music damn good, doesn't miss a point. Thank you, for such a message well received, childhood memories. Now I'm listening, hearing and understanding. Still sounds good, reminds of childhood memories.
Facts but they watch too much tv 📺 today and not learning to listen on a record player 🎞️, music like this has to be listened to on vinyl, in a room where you can be quiet and think. This is what the last two generations are gravely missing. The needle to the record ritual!
Before Lil Kim n the others..... there was Millie Jackson. My older sister played this album to death. I was only 14 n didn’t understand the lyrics or dynamics of a relationship. I got it as I matured into a woman.
My mom hated her music and FORBADE us from listening to Millie Jackson. However, my dad LOVED her music 🎼 and would play it; I would lowkey listen in my room when he played it. Lol!
My parents used to play this album at their "house party gatherings" back in the day, and all of us children had to stay in the room as Ms. Jackson preached on about things our little lives had no idea about, I know now though.
My uncle gave me this eight track to play on my eight track player that I got for Christmas at 9yrs of age..I’ve learned alot from this woman, sh e taught me how to be a woman and not let men make a fool out of me.. from a lil girl.. this album was placed in my spirit and I grew up listening to it everyday and night actually this album put me to sleep! Never forgot the words she imparted in my heart..
I remember my mom cooking and cleaning listening to Millie Jackson--she would not let me listen to it so I would sneak late at night and listen to her records just to hear her curse lol but the older I got I paid attention to the words..LOVE ME SOME MILLIE JACKSON!
Millie J. I still get goosebumps when her voice pitches. This is the first song of hers I ever heard when I was 15 years old and it still remains my favorite 4 decades later. When my mum left to go to town, I would put the hi fi top volume and sing along. When mum was home I would put ear phones on. 😂 Best music era was way back then. Wish I could experience one of her live shows. Fan for life ❤
I was 19 years old when I bought this newly released album and was in my first serious relationship at the time. Ms Jackson was always on the turntable. I should dig the album out and play it in full at some time.
Millie's songs are educational and timeless . I grew up with all the albums she produced , attended all local performances. I got hooked around age 14, my mama played her music throughout my youth. Still listening and liking in 2020..
Have always loved Millie. Have had some of her albums for 30 to 40 years. I don't know which song is my favorite but ALL THE WAY LOVER is at the top 2 for certain.
Im i love with Millie. My mother played her all my life. I seen her in public two times. Ill never forget her long as i live. And im 60yrs. old now. Larry Watson.
It was all the tougher to grab yourself a share of attention in 1977 if you weren't doing disco, but Jackson turned every head with this one. The frank rap got you hooked but as you further investigated the rest of the her work, a hell of a talented singer was discovered.
When I was a kid, about 10 or 11, we had this album. One day I was just gazing at Millie with her tongue out and my mom snatched the album out of my hands. And my dad was looking at me. My mom said, "That's your son!"
I first heard this master piece in 1996/7 was still in primary school. We were doing rehearsals for Mr and Mrs primary 😁 and boooy it's my fav till date.
This is not for the young, naïve and foolish. This is in your face, no bullshitting music. Real grown folks know and admire straight talk no Vaseline and no chaser.
I was a teenager listening to Millie Jackson and most of all the queens that talked that talked and walked that walked they was a real woman made a whole lots of sense real talk
At a time with the radio airwaves were wall-to-wall disco, along came this one toward the end of '77, and you stopped and listened to every word, sung and spoken. "While he got you laying there lyin', talkin' 'bout how good it is cause you know the rent is due and he must pay it"-this was truth-telling on some whole new level! Even conservative Stereo Review took notice and gave the album a forceful endorsement. Passing time will never diminish it.
I meet Miss Jackson at a club in Atlanta Georgia called Chit Chats she was down to earth cool beautiful lady didn't know who she was at that time it's 2022 and I'm jamming off of her music, she telling it like it is
Thanks to my friend who made me feel spectacular. Telling me I have enough brick in my britches to make any ho do all the dishes. I didn't know what she was humming until I came here. LMAO
A very special voice that really caught my attention. Her style of singing can make a person listen and have him or her talking about Millie Jackson tomorrow,
Millie has been girl since day 1. My daughters listen to her. 30 & 52. Yes I am 67, thank GOD every day for life. Millie is bad as bad can get. Love Millie. Old school all the way...... Yes sir!!!!
Raw Millie at her very best on this song. I had this song since around 1978 and will always love it to death. She tells it like it T-I -IS. Saw her at the RBC Center in Raleigh, NC a few years ago and she came right out on stage and let the women have it. She told them, "Don't go trying to push up on Barack Obama, because Michelle got that shit covered." Classic Millie and no one does it better than she can.
Girl why I go with my great aunt and her girlfriends to see Millie, Marvin Sease, and Albert King in concert, I ain’t been right since, lol. Had the time of my life.
Millie was a great singer that wasn't afraid to say what she felt and what life had thrown her way but it amaze me that when the rappers put out an cd, they get banned or even sued but nevertheless, Millie is the QUEEN of TELLING IT LIKE IT IS
+Gregory Clark Probably because Millie Jackson, unlike many rap " artists" never felt the need to cuss and swear and routinely describe women as "hoes" etc etc. Humourous rather than outright offensive and trashy.
A very good friend of mine just passed away 8-21-18, he loved the blues and Millie Jackson was one of his favorites. R.I.P. K.M. Williams. I Love & Miss You My Friend.
I remember this from 1977 - I was a mere 25 years old. Sitting with friends in a candle-lit room tokin' on a number with the volume a little bit too high ... Her vocal performances had long, humorous and explicit spoken sections in her music--she started doing on stage to get the attention of the audience. And it even worked in the recordings, too. Never failed to crack us up. Good times they were!
Once you hear and absorb this Queen's music, you will be hooked forever. Chk out her live albums.... Mind blowing.. Jokes Galore.. Life Lessons and Wisdom....Yessss Millie....
I love coming across old gems like this one...reminds me that there have always been badasses unwilling to compromise. and her comments are hysterical!
I couldn't stop playing this whole album last year, my sophomore year of high school, I thank Millie for helping me get over that bum ass fool. Def one of my biggest influences
As you listen to Millie Jackson's sons you will find you have are in some of the situations are haven't lived long enough to be in it. He lyrics are solid, pure, strong, uncut, down right raw to the core...Nothing but the Truth she speaks...Check out all of her music you will never go wrong and you just might learn something....SHE'S MY ONE AND ONLY FAVORITE!
