Milling logs on my DIY homemade bandsaw mill. I built his mill about 8 years ago, since then I have added a power feed, electronic throttle control and auto blade lube.
The original mill cost me about $250 to build.
I also talk about a Woodmizer LT40 bandsaw mill and our new Timber wolf industrial saw mill with full hydraulic controls including a log turner.

1:21 if you find a second hand pressure washer, you could take it apart and adapt the pressure washer pump to the motor on the mill and run it that way. If you're lucky to find one that's dead on the motor side, even better.

Oh man, I am JEALOUS! My buddy and I have put a lot of hours on a Range Road mill this summer. We cut mostly Red Oak wit a little White Oak mixed in. It’s not a super fancy mill, but it cuts good. We keep talking about which Wood Miser we are going to get when one of us hits the Powerball but like you said, neither of us can justify the cost. That Timberwolf would do us just fine too. Great score!

Mike, just want to say these videos on your saw were an inspiration for me through the building of my sawmill. I've been sawing with it now for a few years and have added a lot of the features from your videos. I'm a shop teacher, and I have two former students with tree services. They get me all sorts of logs for free... I've incorporated a cutting board project w my high school wood shop classes from the sawmill lumber. I have a few videos of it on my channel.. Mike, I helped do a clean out of a pre WW2 building. One piece of lumber I got was from the WW2 era, and because of the lumber shortage, someone had milled poplar, and it's a live edge. I'll save it for a future project.

Mike, you have solid engineering skills to build a mill that is reliable, and easy to maintain. I have watched videos have you did it, and it is amazing to gather all the different parts then put to gather and make a machine like a mill and do it cheaply. Few things Mike, First of all your dad looks like an awesome dude with some stories to tell and it looks like you guys had a great time milling. Next, that mill at the end looks pretty awesome, I used to love fixing up old machines that we would get at my old job. You never know whats wrong with them at first. Of course the seller always say they "run". I have knowledge of 3 phase and those type of controls so if you run into any questions you know where to find me.

Haha yes my dad has a lot of story’s 😂 He grew up in Detroit and had some wild times! The Timber wolf mill at the end of the video has some good potential, we got it for a good deal so even with a few problems we didn’t see, we still did pretty good on that one! Most of the time I saw 1.5x3.5” if I’m mixing store bought lumber with my own milled stuff. Sometimes I will Mill true 6x6” posts it sometimes comes down to the projects planned.

Hi mike, I started Building a Woodmill a year 11/2 , I got sick and have not been able to finish to Now, Only thing Left is the The wheels the hold the Saw blade and engine, What I want to know is would a Good running Honda 9 hp be Strong enough, to do the Job, Motor is like new starts on first pull always, Thank you for any help

9 hp is on the the small side but that being said it will cut lumber with the proper belt drive reduction just not as fast higher hp motor if I am not mistaken Mike's motor is 13hp and it cuts just fine

Use a trailer, sticker the wood on it straight outa the bandsaw. Then slide the unit of wood off in a more permanent spot. Saves handling it too many times.

yeah man, great video. I desperately need to mill some lumber. working on improving where I have my mill set up so I can be more efficient in milling. the dozers are a huge help! Any update on the dozer you purchased?

Great video! On another subject, what mig welding gloves do you recommend? I do not remember ever hearing you say. Thx

For MIG welding I just use good leather work gloves, usually I just buy them from HD, try on a few pairs to make sure you get a good fit. I found the really large Stick welding gloves are just way to bulky for me. The only downside with the thinner leather work gloves is if you grab some hot metal you will feel it quicker, but you won’t get burned from the sparks created when MIG welding 👍 Take care 🙂

Stop dragging your logs! Build a log arch trailer. Throw a chain hoist with a log tong on it and you’ll save hours and blades

I built a log arch about 7 years ago, I have a video on how to build them. I use the log arch for some logs and others it’s just easier to use the log boom on my property.
