Hey guys! Today we are using our new ‪@woodmizer‬ LT15 WIDE Sawmill!
Our buddy ‪@SJForestProducts‬ came by and helped set up the new sawmill and mill up some boards!
We are building a chicken coop here soon and are wanting to use some wood that we had here from the property! This was a tree that recently fell in a wind storm and since We bought the sawmill back in 2021 and it arrived mid 2022. We have JUST started using it and its awesome! We milled up a few boards and are brand new and just learning to iron out the kinks. The edge boards that are considered "waste" would look really cute as bench seats! You could even put them back in the area where Zack had talked about making little trails. They could be used as rest and relaxation areas!

Just something that you need to consider is that the wood your using is cured because the boards you cut could end up bowing/splitting. And make sure it's all stored correctly 😁 so happy for you guys with your new toy! I'd die for a saw mill!!!

I love it! Look at the smile on Zak's face! 🤩🤩🤩 You should grab a sawdust collector bag for the machine, especially for cutting the cedar! You can use the cedar sawdust for all sorts of lovely stuff because it smells sooooo good! Also you can use those off-cuts to make beautiful live-edge garden benches ❤❤❤

There is a channel called Working Horses with Jim and he has his own saw mill. He has a lot of videos on how to saw the logs. With really good tips and tricks. He’s been doing it since he was a boy and his father before him. Very interesting channel! He farms all his land with his draft horses and does logging jobs with them also.

The possibilities on creativity have just expanded! You could use the offcuts to build benches and picnic tables. Just turn the round side out for benches and down for picnic tables.

Make sure you take a look that nothing is nesting in the dead trees before you harvest them! Dead trees are excellent habitat

Something we did at our cabin is to use the live edge top cuts as pathway/trail planks. We have used them as a trail border, with woodchips between, as well as more of a boardwalk style with them stacked together. You can leave the rounded edge as the top walking surface or flip them over for a flat walking trail. Great way not to have waste!
