The last act of this film is so emotional. You feel the heartbreak, the pain, and the weight. I was tearing up(manly cries) the entire last minutes of the movie. You should see this if you like boxing, or if you feel you don't have a soul because after this, you'll definitely have a soul.

He should take the patent for that posture 😂. Sometimes it's hard to believe he(tiny and innocent looking Oldman 😂) played the most Bad-Ass character ever in movie history.
A haunting tale of faith, redemption and death. If only, it could've shared best pic with Eternal Sunshine. But Million Dollar Baby is certainly one of the boldest films that the academy has ever recognised.

Clint Eastwood early in his career was asked by a reporter whether he prefers winning an Oscar for acting or directing? Clint said "an Oscar for directing would be more gratifying". Mission accomplished 👏
Al Ruddy won his first Oscar for The Godfather, and Clint Eastwood was the presenter for that category. Ruddy won his second Oscar, but this time Clint Eastwood was a co-producer. Nice little happy coincidence.

If the Academy was a bit more appreciative of international films like they are today, "2046" and "Howl's Moving Castle" would have deserved Best Picture nominations in my opinion.

@Diego Pisfil Not to me it wasn't. I like movies that persuade me to care about the characters. Those two guys in Sideways I found pathetic and unlikable. But those characters in Million Dollar Baby? They touched my heart.

Just watched this with my Grandma, it was my 2nd time. One of my all time favorites, and it's one of the few movies that have made me cry...ever. Such a wonderful movie, thank you so much Clint for making it! :) PS, My Grandma enjoyed it as well.
@@saledarius9014 That won Best Animated Feature. Animated movies aren't really considered to be Oscar worthy. Only 3 have been nominated for Best Picture-Beauty and the Beast, Up, and Toy Story 3, and they all lost to live action movies.
I searched this after finishing watching the series - The Offer. I specifically wanted to see Albert S. Ruddy here. That show gives you a different perspective on the whole moviemaking process. After seeing the show and seeing Ruddy here, you kinda understand how these guys are all old timers, who did it all in life in the previous 30 plus years, like an entite lifetime has passed for Ruddy between The Godfather and this, and how quickly it all went, and really, this is just a little something to cap it off.

I remember watching that night and it was cool seeing someone like Clint who's already a superstar add to his impressive career. Loved that moment in the opening of the show when Chris Rock calls him a star and compares him to the modern young actors or whatever who don't compare.
Streisand had given Clint one of his prior Oscars years earlier, and Morgan freeman who acted in both films was sitting in seats behind Clint and the camera cut to him on both occasions.
They really couldn't have made it a clean sweep and given Clint Eastwood the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role? Seriously? They give this movie the win for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He DESERVED this win. His acting in this movie was nothing short of phenomenal and HE MADE ME CRY. I will give him the Oscar myself, because he absolutely deserves it. And SHAME on them for not giving him the honor that was due.
Nope, nuh-uh, you're wrong, Jamie Foxx absolutely deserved the Oscar. The guy clearly embodied Ray Charles and gave an all-time great performance. Clint Eastwood was really good, but Jamie's was better by far and it would have been a crime if anyone other than he won it. Sorry, but the Academy got it right on this one. Million Dollar Baby was a great movie, though.
Believe it or not, MILLION DOLLAR BABY remains the last time to date that the Best Picture winner was nominated for (let alone win) Best Actress. The movie also holds the distinction of being the most recent film with a female lead to win Best Picture as well. EDIT: That honour now belongs to THE SHAPE OF WATER.

Million Dollar Baby was just so-so IMHO ....I personally loved 'Ray'...I thought it was brilliant, great storytelling , excellent supporting actors capped with an extraordinary performance by Jamie Foxx. I remember just loving every minute of that film when I saw it the first time. Didn't feel it with MDB.
I think they used to limit the Picture nominees to 3 producers. Not sure when they changed it but I think they finally did after several films had like 5-6.
Doing that generation, CLARK GABLE was once known as the " King Of Hollywood". He was known as the most down-to-earth, humble, loved, respected, protected by his peers in the industry. He also had a progressive nature that transcended even his own white community. He was a Man's Man amongst his male peers and very much secure in his masculinity while being a gentleman to the opposite sex. Every now and then a figure emerges with these attributes. CLINT EASTWOOD has been the latest of icons of this caliber within the last 50 years!!
One of the few years they got it just right. Million Dollar Baby is a great American film. Sideways would've the only other reasonable choice that year.
when i was 12, i saw this on the living tv and i said 'lameeee', and i went to bed, 18 years later I watched it and I was crying my eyes out. This film taught me so many things and it came to my life at the right moment. Such a masterpiece.

It was a brilliant film. It WAS a great team. Eastwood, Freeman and Swank. Aviator was close but I thought MDB was far more fabulous overall as an excellent cinematic effort!
