The expected path of hurricanes is well known; why not evacuate these expensive boats/cars/aircraft? I wonder if there is a business opportunity in providing owners and insurance companies an escape that the owners are apparently unable to provide?

@@toadis6949 OK, reasonable answer. I wonder if there is a business model for a service that provides for the evacuation of an expensive asset. In exchange for reduced insurance premiums, the owner agrees to hand over the keys to professionals who work for an evacuation company. When a tropical storm is brewing south of Cuba and headed for Florida, for example, these professionals would be ordered into Florida for asset evacuation duty.

I’m not sure if they do it for more expensive boats, but I know that will small personal planes, if you don’t move it before a big storm, the insurance companies will fight to not pay for the damages, because their logic is: it’s a plane, you could be anywhere else in a few hours.

I grew up on boats, sailing. Our boats held our blood, sweat tears and hearts. After family, pets, we'd have another family member in them. And in this case could split up get all to safety. No money could replace one . One person can move a boat as far as necessary. I can't understand this. We lived on our last two sailboats. We'd maintenances, cared for every inch inside and out, stem to stern. The varnish, paint, woodwork was done with love and pride. My dad showed me all that from a young age, I always knew our boat was sound. Not off the list. Letting them pile up like garbage is so wasteful and will make insurance harder to get each time a big storm hits. Don't see Ferraris piled up in the streets. Car, boat. Why?
@karenmbbaxter
@karenmbbaxter Год назад
They bought them and probably can't sell them easily so making an insurance claim is a win for the boat owner.

@@turtleneckferret True, I overstate my feelings. But I also like having a feeling that taking a loss is not really, if an insurance company has to pay me for the worth of what I lost. That if they do, I didn't lose after all, because that leads to lots of people feeling it's ok I got paid for it. I like ethics and personal responsibility and accountability and not going down a road of being ok because I got an insurance check or if all else fails I will sue someone. But if money comes my way, it's ok. Doesn't matter if it is just, just so I get mine, those people aren't worried about their neighbors and if they got out of their house or much of anything besides their financial standing. Oops, there I go sharing my feelings again. Sorry. If you all had channels I could send each of you a superchat and make it right. It's my right, just as it's yours not to read comments you don't enjoy. Have a good day, may you not be in the storms path, my friend.

These comments are repulsive! I live here and lived through the hurricane. These boat owners love their boats. No there wasn’t enough time to get all of the boats out. And these huge yachts require special treatments to get them out. In this area they are literally hundreds of thousands of boats. Please don’t talk about situation that you don’t have any inclination of understanding!

I feel so sorry for someone with an extra million to put into a boat. It means so little to them that they'll leave it in the path of a hurricane. Their home must be at least four million + in an unsafe neighborhood with a lousy public school system. The plight of the multimillionaire shouldn't be understated. The struggle is real !
