We already do, it's corporation tax. This issue has more to do with the effect of moving decision makers elsewhere and the work that they produce for our various service industries (lawyers, finance, leisure etc.)

The UK public has been gas-lit for so long by politicians who try to make out that this is more complicated than it it really is when the truth is that it is only complicated because of the special interests that they are trying to protect at the expense of the British public.
I would LOVE to earn of make a million pounds a year and be taxed at fifty percent. I would have ten grand a week (thar I couldn't spend, it's so much) and I would shout from the rooftops how i gave half a million pounds to NHS, schools, care homes, child poverty, etc. And how proud to be doing it again next year and the year after..

Cool, and if you win the lottery that makes perfect sense. If you've built your whole career around making money though, and you've spent decades missing the good life in order to get rich, you'll be less pumped. You might decide to retire and enjoy a more chilled life somewhere sunny

@@johnwilliams7653 the farmers won't end up paying. There will be a stewardship grant, from the government, to cover the costs for farmers to buy equipment to handle waste. That money will be ploughed back into British manufacturing and retail sectors and this is what happens. That money would have come from Europe if we were still part of it. But because Brexit means Brexit our government has to keep the farmers happy. The farmers won't suffer so don't worry.
I'm overjoyed and grateful to see God's blessings manifest in my family's life. We're happy once again, and I can now provide for my loved ones even in retirement, thanks to a remarkable weekly income of $67,000. It's a game-changer after facing many challenges.

Bit of a weak statement about those leaving to avoid tax. Should go further and say if you want to own property or a business in the UK, irrespective of whether you live there, you need to pay some sort of income tax if you are the beneficial owner.
It's not the principal of tax it's the rate of tax that is the issue. One persons idea of 'fair' is another persons idea of high. Anyway what a surprise to see the wealthy owner of green energy generating company talking about green energy.
@@kmrk4055 I get what you mean, and without getting into the weeds as I don't have sufficient data with me now, the reason I say "some sort of tax" is because if you live abroad and are I entitled to certain benefits as a non dom, such as healthcare, then that principle should also prevent a property owner from negatively impacting the UK economy either through sitting on a property as an asset, or as a landlord or as a business owner. Basically, you should not be able to extract any wealth without tax because that wealth extraction impacts the country. Yes, there's is a discussion to be had about the rate, and that should be against the benefit they derived and any impact they have. Currently, those people he's saying can leave, will retain those assets in the UK from which they can extract wealth, only now they won't be subject to UK tax and likely will pay less tax in a haven. Some will even just move their tax liability abroad and remain in the UK, paying a foreign tax and enjoying most of the benefits of wing in the UK, including using the NHS because they never ask your residential status if they hear a UK accent, see a UK NI number or perhaps ask to see a UK passport.
Could do what the Spanish do if you move in the same tax year and charge CGT on ANY property sold to move here. Obviously if someone is rich enough they will not need to sell but it may stop some people moving money about to get out of paying anything.
@@stephenjon3502 tbh I think a better solution would be a cap on annual income and a separate cap on overall wealth. Probably around the 1m and 2m respectively (at current rates). This would be applied to anyone property held in the UK and probably best to apply to all income irrespective of where earned.

A punishment tax for leaving? You'd have fitted in well in 1930's Germany who had precisely such a tax - Reichsfluchtsteuer. Is that your closet National Socialist coming out?
Human capacity for depravity is infinite while life persists. The poor are always with us - the rich insist on their availability for continued exploitation.
The expression fair share drives me crazy...what does that mean...how about we all pay the same amount...is that fair? How's about we all pay the same percentage...is that fair? How about if you're a single parent, should you pay the same?....the tax system in the UK is broken, too complicated, too many loopholes, make it simple with clear percentages for everyone to pay and no loopholes.
Pay based on how much you get out of the country - if you're rich and have a business chances are you've probably made a lot of money out of poor people.
@@partyringsparty why should you pay more if you earn more? how about we pay tax on lifetime earnings so older people pay more and younger people pay less...I feel that's fair...you had one good year of working overtime and the government takes 50% of your pay.
@@MalavitaOfBByou're right to be pissed off for giving up so much of your wage to taxes, but you're directing your anger in the wrong place. The real crooks are the people who don't earn a wage, whose wealth is based on owned land and property, inheritance and stock. If they pay any tax, it's a pittance by comparison to top PAYE earners as a percentage of income. The tax system in the UK is rigged in favour of wealthy land owners and the already rich.
My wife and I have lost our winter fuel payment. Am I angry? No. Our combined pensions, though not fantastic, are sufficient for us to survive without it. I would rather the money goes to those who really need it. As for those rich people who are complaining about paying their fair share of tax, I'm happy to help them make arrangements to move abroad.
“Those who really need it”? Like migrants turning up on the beach and being given luxury flats, heating, healthcare, money to spend. Those people? People who have worked hard to achieve what they have in life do not deserve to have their money redistributed to people who have not contributed. Socialism is a race to the bottom. Good luck to those people protecting their hard earned assets.
In 1980, the richest 1% of UK earners paid around 11% of the total income tax. This is significantly lower than the approximately 28% they contribute today. Over the decades, the tax burden on the top 1% has increased as income inequality grew and tax policies were adjusted. During that time, the tax system was less progressive compared to recent years, and the share of income tax paid by the wealthiest was a smaller proportion of the total.
In 1980, the overall tax system was less progressive than today. While the richest 1% contributed significantly to income tax (about 11%), their share of other taxes like National Insurance, VAT, and Capital Gains Tax was lower, particularly because of favorable tax rates and loopholes.
Bit weird to tell Ava that Dale's giving a talk later called "The cow in the room" given that Ava is also in that talk xD. On that though, is JOE uploading that talk? I can't find it online anywhere.
Wealthy people should be allowed to leave the UK, if they want to, but should only be allowed to take a restricted amount of money out of the UK eg £50,000. Other countries to this.
_"It's not a huge sum of money"_ - I guess he's not talking about the 4 million quid from that hedge fund with assets in the arms industry and private healthcare. You know, the one that they delayed taking payment of until the very last minute so that when they declared it, the public wouldn't see it until way after the election. 🤨 That "donation"? I dunno, maybe he was talking about the ones that most Labour Cabinet Members have received from various supporters of 1sr43li state, including the government itself, with David Lammy accepting over £170k already. Oh, and don't forget the all-expenses-paid trips to those sunny climes the MPs are almost duty-bound to accept. There are plenty more -bungs- donations made from more "private donors" now, as the funding from the grass-roots, the membership and the unions have plummeted since Corbyn was ousted. It almost makes you wonder who the Labour Party are there to represent because it sure seems to be a world away from who the party was set up to benefit. Yeah, a _"drama in a teacup (sic)"_ for sure. Hmm. 🤔
This is the same guy going on TV last year defending just stop oils methods. Now they've been crippled by harsh jail sentences and anti protest laws he has jumped ship to the more moderate (Tory leaning) Labour
On his comments about the proposal that all rented property by EPC C grade or better, it is a great policy but with a couple of huge flaws: 1. EPC methodology is hopeless, everyone who studies it agrees with that so it needs to be replaced otherwise we will end up with "upgrades" to rental properties that really do not achieve much 2. A maximum spend of £10k - in my experience of dealing with properties built in the 1950s or earlier, that is usually not enough even in the north of England. But the bigger problem, is that in many properties based on Government's own analysis the work might save tenant £200 per year in heating costs but the landlord would probably need to increase the rent by £75-90 per month (depends on what rate of return landlord is looking at and how much of the rent is taken in agent fees), so the economics simply do not work unless there is some government scheme to reduce the cost
Except we dont have anywhere near as many pensioners now, and even fewer who are poor - that's just numbers. So why should ALL pensioners get the money? Why shouldnt it be means tested?
@@mustrumridcully3853 Because 'means tested' means many of the nearly destitute are left to become the next cohort of victims to be exploited by the wealthy. To pay all, then tax back from the rich would be fairer. As it is the rich have not only the most money but also the most ability to avoid carrying any share of taxation. We need Robin Hood, not robbing hoods in government.
I agree with him on some things but encouraging the wealthy to take their money elsewhere because of political differences is juvenile and self defeating.
So he is not against freebies because he donates to the Labour Party including my MP who voted to end WFA. How my MP will defend constituents from this man who owns Ecotricity who don’t always respect their customers according to the reviews is beyond reason. The owner of an electricity company with many pensioners who are customers is strangely in favour of the cutting of the WFA. You have to ask what he is getting for his donations? This man supported the stop oil disruption which affected many of us in our every day business. Telling people to leave our country with money is just stupid isn’t it?
Which speaks to international agreements needed, to manage the richest hoarding the wealth they accumulate, from the infrastructure built from the taxes everyone else pays.
There are plans for advanced countries to band together with a standard high rate of tax on the rich. Strangely, wealthy people want to live in a stable country with freedoms. That means countries with decent public services.
@@chrisbacon84 you reckon? Dubai looks like a s**thole to me. A shopping centre in a desert. No nature and trees, too damn hot, ugly buildings, watch out if you're gay or take drugs.
Farming Argument might be valid with the big companies but not small farmers. Importing meat is the biggest issue. We have cows who naturally mow the field instead of using petrol mowers. Those cows can then produce meat. There are sections of some fields where you need cows to eat the field contents because a mower isn't viable or doesn't do the job well.
You never need cows to mow the fields! The best thing about reducing meat consumption is that it frees up land to be rewilded: absorbing carbon, improving biodiversity, and increasing soil health to name but a few of the myriad of benefits!
O lordy! Yes - some Pensioners are very well off and some children are very poor. However, some children are very well off and some pensioners are very poor. No child should go hungry and no pensioner cold. Similarly, factory farming pollution does not take away the impact of water companies' pollution. Please stop using simplistic arguments to pit one group against another. Governments are supposed to address all issues and donors - if they are truly for the country - shouldn't be cherry-picking, either.
I agree. One problem is that people on low incomes can't afford anywhere or anything now. A fulltime job doesn't cover bills like before yet people still need people doing those jobs. Something needs to happen. Certainly low cost basic housing for people. People need to think out of the box 100%.
Yes but a far larger proportion of the pension population are better off than the portion of well of younger people. Why don’t all people get a winter fuel allowance?
@@user-pp9yk3tu4z Because politicians regard people as livestock to be exploited then discarded if no longer able to contribute money & power (money & power being interchangeable rather like Mass & Energy in the physical world). Culling pensioners who may not support the grift makes sound sense to any politician devoid of humanity, as does aborting the unborn if they are likely to be unable to contribute in the short term or might make the mother less economically exploitable. Only those likely to support the grift should be allowed to be carried to term, then schooled (not educated) to perpetuate the capitalist 'machine'. The answer to your question summarises to BECAUSE POLITICIANS CARE ABOUT ACQUIRING & KEEPING POWER, NEVER ABOUT PEOPLE.

Dale Vince is great no nonsense down to Earth full respect didn’t realise farming polluted the rivers more than water companies I learnt something here thanks Dale
I wasn't sure it was worse than sewage discharges by water companies, but effluence from intensive farming has been ruinous for river health in Ireland, so it's definitely a known problem.
@@tommoric376I think he's a goodun' but he does make the odd tactical statement in order to ingratiate himself with the Starmer Party. I assume that's to do with his interest in being involved with GB Energy. I'm a happy Ecotricity customer but I still acknowledge that Mr. Vince is a capitalist and a business person. As such he says and does what is in his business interests. But I still like him because I think he puts environmental concerns first.
There's the waste from over 20 million chickens currently being released into the river Wye. Water is taken from the river further downstream to water crops. We are literally eating sh*t.

He's wrong about pensioners being well looked after. We still have one of the worst state pensions in the developed world. Many poorer countries than ours have much better pensions than we do
We need a balance of those in poverty?! I think Vince is misunderstanding the effect of means testing the WFA. And any pittance saved won’t go to kids in poverty 🤷♀️
I feel for farmers. They've been shafted over Brexit and terrible deals. They get vilified for using fertiliser but when they use animal waste they get criticised for causing run off.

If you're wealthy enough to afford a good accountant you won't pay the correct tax anyway. As a vegan with businesses in that area is Vince just hoping to gain from factory farming disappearing?
A lot of the sustainable/ thought to be eco friendly farming such as free range and organic animal farming. Cause more run off into the river due to longer time need to raise and the economy of scale needed to make it profitable. George Monbiot has previously talked about this and mentioned that these are more welfare issue than environmental ones.
err, yes he does. At the end he says that if they are not willing to pay 'their fair share' then 'they should leave'. I think that qualifies as calling people out.

@@VendomeK-iw9uy I know you're digging for hypocrisy but the winter fuel allowance is means tested, the rich guy can afford a scarf, and Kier Starmer had clothes bought for him and his wife that he didn't declare properly. Getting upset over those three things is a bit of a waste of time and energy considering everything else happening in the world.
While I commend him for saying some of the things he's saying, he also comes across as quite out of touch with how normal people live, which is understandable seeing as he IS a millionaire. Simply removing the winter fuel allowance across the board isn't "fair" as he says, fair would be to have it be based on the income of the household. That said, there is no exact formula to perfect equality or fairness.
Taxing the rich properly would recover the WFP while allowing 10M + pensioners who need every penny they get to keep their 2 or 300 pounds. London politicians & the rich in general are shockingly cruel & out of touch. Shame & infamy be upon them.
People need to look into this winter fuel rubbish as well. 25% of pensioners are sat on £1million at least of assets. Now imagine that percentage fingure every time you drop £100k down to a still very nice £400k of assets. 50%/60%, maybe more?
So end factory farming but admit that sustainable farming isnt economicly viable, so what end all meat production and import all meat? Is that more sustainable? Most people would rather die than go vegan myself among them😅
My take away was to reduce the consumption of meat, like he said the consumption of meat has increased through the roof since the second World War. It's not realistic to expect people to follow a vegan diet, but certainly many people could reduce the amount of meat they eat.
If governments didn't subsidise the meat industry, you wouldn't even be able to afford to eat meat. It's only because meat products are so damn cheap that they are produced and consumed on such a large scale.
I'm not a vegan but I've reduced my meat intake and many of the alternatives are more than acceptable.this hopefully contribute to a better planet and does not mean that people will have to give it up
