I met a dude on elden ring and played over 100+ hours together. By the end of our time playing he told me if elden ring has not come out he would of had nothing to live for, turns out he was going through an incredibly tough time and when Elden ring was released it gave him something to take his mind off it. Video games inspired me to learn about things I never would have thought of. I started playing games in the arcades then with a Commodore VIC 20 and an Atari 2600 (showing my age now). When my dad and I built our first PC (with an Intel 486 processor) I became obsessed with computers and how they worked. I eventually got a degree in electronic engineering and have a great job now. If it hadn't been for games and computers, who knows where I would be.

I'm in the same boat as you Act Man! Without video games, I would not have the friendships and connections I have today. In fact, I am having a large, in-person gathering with 9 or 10 of my Overwatch friends soon, and I COULD NOT be more excited to see them (and in the case of a few, meet for the very first time.) Online relationships can be 100% authentic and video games are an amazing catalyst.

Growing up and playing strategy games like Total War, C&C, Crusader Kings etc was what made me realise I was good at planning, working with numbers and statistics and resource management which inspired me to follow a career in management. Every day, I go to work with the mindset of my job being like those games I grew up playing and loving. Video games thanks to their variety can help you discover talents and passions you didn't even know you had.

24:00 could not be more true. Going through mk1 with my uncles on the Sega or finally competing the original crash bandicoot on ps1 with my sister (imo still the hardest game I've ever played) formed some of the best relationships of my life.

I used to go to a friend's house almost every weekend and we'd play videogames. This set into the back of my mind, a desire to maybe one day create videogames myself, but the coding skills seemed so unattainable. When I had to learn programming in school, it clicked, it clicked really well, and one of the first things I did when my skills developed enough, was try to make a videogame. Now I'm in uni, studying video game development, and enjoying the process of making a game as much as playing one. But oh well, could have spent that time and my teenage years doing business rather than enjoying a friendship and finding a good release for teenage hormones
