In August 1999, I was having dinner with my dad at a Houlihan’s in Atlanta. Dad walked to the bar and asked to turn on WWTBAM. Bartender didn’t know what it was. Within 10 minutes the bar was packed with diners and staff watching it. It was “appointment TV”. Saw three tapings in NYC and loved the attraction at WDW. Thanks for some cool memories!
Thank you to all that have came within the WWTBAM path: Regis Philbin (1999-2002, 2004, 2009), Meredith Vieira (2002-2013), Cedric the Entertainer (2013-2014), Terry Crews (2014-2015), and Chris Harrison (2015-2019).
@@christucker9966 I'm afraid it is true Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in the USA is still "technically" on the air in reruns, but next week Will Be The Repeat of "Second Chance Week" the week of September 2-6, 2019. After September 6, 2019. WWTBAM in this part of the World will be leaving the airwaves behind for the foreseeable future.
@@scifiboyMrandMrsArcee It actually did come back the very next year in primetime, but that ended after two seasons and the show hasn't done new episodes in the US since 2021. Kimmel did have the show's first million dollar winner in over a decade and the first celebrity winner for charity.
@@blindsportslover No only the first season because COVID happened right as they were about to start, so LA celebs was all they could do. The second season had civilians but it was restricted to first responders and essential workers during COVID.
@@thomaandy237 Yes, that show was legendary. So sad to see it gone. They brought it back in 2020-21 but it hasn't been on the air since. 2024 would be a nice time to bring it back again.
To tell you truth, there was no announced finale at the end as only Chris Harrison wasn't saying it. instead, they put an Audience contestant down the curtain as the final episode taped before the series was officially cancelled beforehand. Not to mention, the original UK version with Tarrant had the final episode announced five years ago.
Millionaire's final season which also happened to be the one that introduced new, arguably tacky, graphics. COINCIDENCE? Probably, yeah. Thanks for the upload.
If they are curious as to why this show got cancelled, think about it this way: -Killing the original format by introducing the clock (although the format was really the same idea) -Viera leaving in 2011-12 gave them a cycle of awful hosts -The shuffle format/removing the hot seat made the show unrecognizable -Only 1 top prize winner since 2004 and it was a tournament that guaranteed a winner If ABC wanted to revive it once more in a primetime slot with the original format and lifelines, no gimmicks....the show would likely be a success again. They keep reviving old shows like Press your Luck, Card Sharks, etc....but they are hosted by comedians who don't know a thing about presenting a show. It's a shame this show got ruined by a lack of top prize winners and awful production during the last decade.
imo the show actually peaked at the clock format, it was intense and had the spectacular anniversary special with Regis. Shuffle was where it went downhill.
@@LunalynDragon Clock manufactured drama that wasn't needed though. Never liked it. Even Chris Tarrant had said they'd kill the show dead when they introduced it in UK after US had done it. And though he left on his own accord/the show left with him a few years later, I kinda feel he was right. Made it a completely different show, although at least they had the foresight to drop the clock for the last set of questions (aka the big money ones), something the US didn't do.
As a "British person" I was absolutely confused when seeing the US version with no hot seat And then I got more confused when they switched to some "graphic design is my passion" question graphics in 2018
This finale was amazing a great run for 20 years Thank you Millionaire (1999-2019),left a huge legacy behind will never see the light of day again and i don't think there ever will be another one.
Chris Harrison : We see you next time! 🙂 Audiences at home : But the show ended unfortunately, there can't be more episodes anymore. 😢😢😢 Edit : What's even worse after a decade long modern syndication from 9 (2010-11) - 17 (2018-19) none were changed + no one has ever won a millionaire after a long running decade in 2010s. 😥
I'm gonna miss this show do much, and I'm wondering what gonna fill in for it. The reason is that I live in North Alabama so Channel WAFF 48 (NBC), and it airs at 11:30 AM and by the time September gets here; will there be a new show or just reruns of Millionaire
Edward Simmons Hey Edward, I live in Huntsville and for what I’m hearing, WAFF 48 will either be doing a 90-minute newscast or or do what WAAY 31 is doing with Jeopardy and aired a daytime Wheel of Fortune. If you want my opinion, I rather have a classic game show that aired on syndication that WAFF can get from BUZZZR
@@Eminem200183 Oh okay thank you for the news because I live in Town Creek AL (In Lawrence County), and I be watching this show at times, and hearing this, I was wondering, what's going to be happening from future for that 11:30 time slot.
The show is a UK created property, by a British production company now absorbed by Sony. But Disney owns US rights and co-produce it with Sony. If Disney doesn't make a new version for a long while Sony could make it themselves, but they already have jeopardy and wheel of fortune so who knows. It's the opposite of those Spider-Man movies Sony makes.
They should have done B:B there. Looks like she had no issue and was understood correctly there, but usually they did that when answers are letters because that got confusing.
Dan Barker I gave up on this show for that same reason. I hated it that the number of top prize winners and big winners on the US version of Millionaire went down drastically after Bernie Cullen won the top prize on April 15th, 2001
