Labour isn't going to stop oil though. Starmer has come out and said he won't block any licences the tories put through, the tories have offered up over 100. Labour isn't stopping Rosebank - a huge oil and gas field. If they were serious they would be stopping this.
Yep cause being in opposition allows you to stop what the government does. When they give out licences they can’t just take it back. They have to buy it back and the government has no money. Let’s get Labour into power and then hold their feet to the fire. The worst Labour government is still better than the best conservative government. And the proof is in the membership
@@joshg2603 give one example, just one of a prime minister elected on a raft of right-wing rhetoric who suddenly became good once elected. They all do the opposite because every systemic and institutional pressure pushes them to serve wealth and power. You think Blairite Starmer will stand up to the fossil lobby and all the others after you've handed him office? Don't be daft.
It doesn't matter, it takes years to extract from the north sea. Better labour get on with the job of green tech and not waste time with the oil companies. No point in getting into that war
Nothing will motivate young people to vote more than feeling they are being prevented from doing so. Ths could so easily be made to work against the Tories.
You mean lying about the Tories trying to take away your voting rights? I bet you loved the lies spread by Labour on certain issues. Don't worry Labour will win the next election because low voter turnout due to lies from all political parties. This does bring up another question, can a so called Democratic government form if overall voting is below 40%?
why isnt he backing green party instead of labour, if he has the money to actually make substantial change. it'd be better of for green party to have funding like that. the issue they have currently is they don't every get a chance in a media. and we need to talk about why the media only focuses on two parties. i don't see labour sticking to green pledges more than green party would
He’s backing Labour because they are the only party that can beat the Tories in the next general election. With a first past the post voting system the green party, sadly, cannot.
Good luck getting Keir Starmer to honour any pledges or commitments on the Environment he might make. The considered opinion, is he will be little better for the environment, than Tories. He believes in 'Growth at any cost', which is the antithesis of any real action on Climate change...
Exactly He is also NOT promising to stop new oil and gas. He has explicitly endorsed ALL the licenses that Sunak has issued. No idea what Dale is thinking. Maybe he has a promise from Starmer to change course once in office
@@mawkernewek No he isn't. They have an aspiration to spend £28bn per year by the end of the next parliament IF there are funds from growth. Else sorry, we can't afford to save the planet for future generations of humanity. Subsidising the fossil fuel industry and keeping taxes on the rich low come first.
Stopped funding the group JustStopOil, but continues to fund a party that supports new north sea oil licenses & projects... 🤔 Probably wants those Green gas contracts. #TheGreenLobby
"this is the most important election of my lifetime" no it isn't, those were 2017 and 2019 when Labour fully recognised the climate crisis and had the greenest policies of all parties. Now they offer nothing. The fight is lost, Starmer destroyed all hope for future generations, for as long as there are still historians Starmer will be remembered in a worse light than Neville Chamberlain
The Blairite delusionists are out in force all over the media today defending the indefensible. 2017 and 2019 were the last chance. Now it is too late.
@@RandallSlick It is the opposite of what you say- reasoned analysis of the fact Labour has no meaningful answers to the problems Britain is facing. It is the red Tories who insist on not changing the record- neoliberalism is the poisonous Tory ideology that has destroyed Britain with the connivance of Labour since Blair.
What do you think would have been better in the aftermath of two GE losses? What do you think future historians will make of Labour's decision to agree to the catastrophic 2019 GE?
I really think this is a big mistake. It’ll weaken JSO and the Tories are going to keep attacking Dale and Labour with this culture war regardless. So it just makes everything worse I feel like. I think he also forgot to mention the voting campaign, which is Just Vote 24. A good cause, but I don’t see why he couldn’t fund both simultaneously.
The propoganda the right wing are pushing is being believed. I'm in favour of jso and xr but it's not working because people are so easily conned by the right wing. Best dale gets on with the job alongside labour and we get what we need
I partly agree with this, but realistically the first priority is getting the Tories out. You have to get the bull out the china shop before cleaning it up.
Correct move on Vince part JSO is feeding into the torries narrative of cracking down on protests you need a change of government otherwise they are viewed as nuisance and more justification for Sunak to increase police crackdown on protest.
Contributing to the lame arse “culture wars” in any way is pathetic and missing the point, and wasting time, and basically means you don’t care about the future, you would rather waste time faffing about scoring pints and getting in the media
The entire Justification for the Just Oil protests was that parliamentarianism had failed to deliver a sensible solution to the climate crisis, now suddenly by joining forces with parliamentarianism we can solve the crisis? I'd go back to siting in the middle of the road mate, at least that annoyed people.
Extra-parliamentary action is definitely the way, whoever gets elected next year. Neither party will act without having their hand forced. If nothing else, a Labour government at least might be more amenable to that kind of pressure than the tories would be
@@scotteverett5932 and so the cycle will continue. I'm voting for the green party, atleast their values align with stuff i believe in rather than just voting for the "lesser of two evils"
Forgive me but that's daft. To vote Green in a Parliamentary election outside of a small handful of constituencies is not just a wasted vote, it may actually facilitate a Tory win by splitting the opposition. Tactical voting is crucial if you want to see the back of this government. Think of the damage the Tories could do with another term. Save your green vote for your local council where you might stand a better chance of electing a representative.
@@leonkeogh8554 all the more reason to get rid of the first past the post… Proportional Representation is the fairest election system then the Green Party would have far more MPs than they do now… But I don’t think the 2 big parties want that as it would mean their dominance would disappear over night…
This move would make a lot more sense if Labour were going to cancel all of Sunak's recent licenses. But they won't. So what's the point of voting Labour exactly?
@@timj6121 That isn't how this works. The licenses already approved are a death sentence as they are. Maybe you aren't aware of how deadly and urgent the climate emergency is. This isn't an "issue" like any other. This is life and death for billions of people. If you want to see where "lesser of 2 evils" politics gets you, look at the US where one party wants to kill the world tomorrow and the other wants to kill the world next week. Besides, the North Sea will basically be tapped out after this lot of licenses anyway. Sunak has done everything already. There isnt much more damage Sunak could do on that front.
Man thinks labour is a better alternative to tories, he very specifically said that. Pretty sure he's rather be voting green but you can not say that outload for the political view point.
@@maxpowerii7368 Agreed. Steve Richards wrote a good article about the concept a couple of weeks ago. Since the Blair era it definitely means neoliberal as far as I am concerned.
I like Vince but talking about Starmer as a serious alternative for a greener future is complete rubbish. He has gone back on every promise he has ever made, watered down the environmental commitments and may just u turn on them anyway. I will never vote Starmer.
That's what I just wrote. The labor party is the most centrist and corporate its ever been since Blair and he thinks they are a better choice to stop oil. Made me laugh.
Hard to disagree with Dale Vince, I like listening to him. However why we havent gone nuclear is beyond me...solves energy, brexit, finance, transport, trade...
I wonder why you didn't ask him if supporting labour wasn't more because they pledged to be pro business. He's a billionaire. He's trying to make more money.
He's not a billionaire, he's a rich man probably with millions but that's a far stretch from a billionaire. He also does a lot with that money and made it in a way which wasn't exploitative so although being rich should be a red flag in this case I'm not sure you have a point.
Utter rot, renewables need MASSIVE storage, 100TWh of storage, and that costs a lot. The reason he promotes it is because he gets £5 mn a year in windfarm subsidies
@@leikfroakies yes you’re right protest has famously never fundamentally changed the world, don’t look to Gandhi, MLK, Emily Davison, Rosa Sparks, Malcom X… let alone how we were given week ends and the eight hour work week. The powerful never give up power without struggle.
Can I ask a practical question? What do we do with all the animals? And how are we going to feef them? Who will look after them? What do we do with them as they die? Serious questions, possibly without any good answers
Some comments seem to think there's no difference between actively exploiting fossil fuel stocks - and implementing a British green new deal. Labour WILL be better than the Conservatives. Ed Miliband DOES know what he's talking about..
Are Labour going to revoke any of the gas and oil licences that has not been acted on yet - Probably not. Stop or drastically reducing Rosebank - Probably not Stop all subsidies for oil and gas companies - Probably not Be interested to see what they actually do so I will lend them my vote in the hope they have some balls to take on big oil and gas and animal agriculture. But not holding my breath
well said mr vince u talk a lot of sense ,and u know how mr sunak operates which the goverment dont want people to here, keep up the good work dale vince
Just anecdotally Dale Vince lives in a castle on a hill above Stroud where I live. He's not popular with some locals who see him as a local Baron who has too much influence and suspect that he is a hypocrite. I must say myself though that I find he talks s lot of sense and puts his money where his mouth is. I dare say that he's doing more for the environment than most castle-dwelling Cotswold millionaires.
@@eightiesmusic1984 sad af that you have to come on here to try and start putting down strangers on the Internet... Maybe time to have a break from the Internet and develop those social skills 👍
Can tactical voting cripple the Conservative party? That's the first hope. Second hope is that labour can bring about systematic changes that puts a green transition with jobs and proper care for people front and centre. Third hope is for a mass inclusive movement that can fight the powers of corruption before thes forces start creating fear and division. Or rather hopes two and three are one and the same. The fourth hope is that the conservatives are not only crippled they are destroyed for the post truth Trumpian authoritarianism the now symbolise.
I don't believe for one minute its just politics rishi backing oil and nuclear, i wouldn't be surprised if he had money invested in both..he may be slimey but he's not stupid with making money,.
There are other ways than endorsing a load of idiots that think keeping thousands of cars idle on the motorway is the best way to convey a green message
I think Labour has promised Dale Vince a lot of business, on the condition he stops supporting JSO because it harms their image in the tabloids.Vince is thinking of his business now.
Hi Holly, It’s easy to be cynical. Do you have any evidence to support he has suddenly given up on the cause after decades of commitment and is now only concerned about money, even though he’s got loads of it? I don’t think so. It’s always easy to go down the conspiracy route. If you do have any evidence, I retract my criticism & I’m all ears. I’ve read some of your other comments I thought they were very excellent 👍 Keep up the good work.
I agree although people are suckers for charismatic leaders, figureheads and demogogues. I'm not a fan of personality politics or cultists but a movement for change needs to coalesce around something or someone.
Got to get more onshore wind. The idea of our power generation being offshore fills me with dread when it comes to energy security. Its an easy, soft target for enemy states.
My Father said 'If you don't vote, you do vote. You vote for a Dictatorship.' I've lived under a Dictatorship, believe me you don't want to try that. See how Tories pander to older people ignoring the interests of the young. It's because older people vote, young people don't. I get my energy from Dale's Ecotricity and it seems a reasonable price to me, often lower than others. I also like Nuclear Power as we need that here in the North to completely go 100% non fossil.
So he wouldn’t warrant a knighthood because of his contribution to mainstream carbon reduction through his companies, his FOOTBALL (biggest sport in the world) CLUB Forest Green Rovers and his clear dedication to the green cause but because he backed Starmer? Come off it. You’re mad that he’s backing a Labour Party you clearly have disdain for. SNP are no longer credible after their issues over the summer and change of leadership. Green Party have their own issues with connections to the LGB Alliance and frankly a disappointing push to win constituencies.
Just stop Oil torture normal working people. If Just Stop Oil were genuine - they would torture No.10 Downing Street and Parliment - by protesting and distrupting the Powers that be on their doorsteps, instead of preventing poor people who are trying to get to work.
Me voting isn't in question. But your point is a good one that Starmer and other establishment candidates ought to be mindful of. Starmer's entire project is to squash the left, restore the establishment stewardship of Labour and deny millions of us a real choice. Such a disrespectful shame on those who campaigned and fought for a better democracy in the UK.
Someone talking a lot of sense. If we did have genuine fuel security i.e. fully renewable and non-hydrocarbon (international market) based the prices will come down. Tie this into a long term well planned policy will as he says reduce or extinguish fuel poverty in this country. The subsidies handed out to the hydrocarbon energy if reassigned will pay for us to travel a long way down this road. We were a very very clever country before we all got dumbed down for rich peoples profit, the UK can solve this issue quite easily if you remove the voices of those who will loose their access to the gravy train.
@Melissa.Garrett you need to be more innovative than simply STOP OIL, LIVE LIKE A CAVEMAN or USE OIL AND DIE. There is a middle ground to be discovered here
@@jakehyams8659 I didn’t say there wasn’t a middle ground. But continuing to use oil INSTEAD of green alternatives is going to kill us before we can even grow any lettuces (j/k).
