This massive 8 bedroom, 7 bathroom Mid Century bungaloft was built in 1962 and sits on a massive 4 acre lot. It sold in 2020 after the original owner passed away for 12 Million Dollars.
Oh Ethan I'm obsessed with this house. This house and the house with the plaid wallpaper that went on the ceilings are my absolute favorites. This place was a showplace in its day, obviously this family had money. It makes me sad that this will all be destroyed. That oven in the kitchen was the same one used on Bewitched. That groovy room downstairs room, the flower wallpaper shower room, the foil wallpaper throughout, the glitter wallpaper in the staircase, I'm OBSESSED with this place. Thank you for doing what you do Ethan. Another epic adventure for sure.
The Frigidaire in the kitchen has pull out drawers for the stove burners. They are very sought after and hard to find these days. Called the Flair range. Love the laundry chute in the laundry room. The original washer and dryer were probably top of the line beauties.
Exactly. Watch any earlier episode of "Bewitched". She has a stove unit just like this...drawer for burners and lift up glass doors as the oven/warmer. It apparently malfunctioning (although a Frigidaire NEVER dies) and they just put in a newer stove unit, not wanting to get rid of the original.
We bought a one owner house built in 68 that still has an old Frigidaire wall oven and counter top stove. I would love to restore them if I could find the hardware. ( they work, but it would be nice to redo all of the burners. They are hard wired, not the modern plug ins.)
Ok I saw it!😉 this was a nice home in its day! I could just smell the hot dogs boiling in the kitchen, waiting for us to eat after we got to swim! How fun for kids!
That place is unbelievable, it hasn't been greatly altered since it was built. This has got to be the best example of an early sixties decor plan I have ever seen. For me it's a first , A pop art abstract recreation room with a built in feature wall and deco seat. I bet the old furniture is in a retro store somewhere. It's a good thing you recorded this one Ethan, Its about the same time period as the Cold war Deifenbunker bomb shelter. Way Cool.
I love these 60s houses, especially when they’ve been left with all the original wallpaper and fixtures. This one is amazing!👏 Pool change room is stellar!
Wow! This was amazing! The "please keep all doors locked" sign on the front door might have been because at the end of his life, the owner suffered from Alzheimer's & would leave to wander, so the caregivers posted the sign to keep him safe. Just a thought:) Thank you for sharing such awesome content!
Hey Ethan!! This home needs to be preserved! The room with built in seating may have had asmall dance floor in the middle! Really love all the customizing through-out. Bathroom wallpapers..cool. Copper sink in first bar..cool! Tons of storage, bright kitchen,etc....too much to list here. Great job, stay safe😘👍👌😘
I noticed the dance floor as well. Imagine the disco/dance love/not war parties down there. So so much about this home is wonderful. I agree that it appears to priced to prevent anyone from buying. I bet the neighbors want it demolished and a more modern structure erected in its place. While I watched this video I just kept thinking about all the life that had been lived in that wonderful place. And now “him & her” are both gone and it looks like their home will soon follow. Sad but beautiful.
Wow... that pool room with that giant 60s chair!! I've never seen anything like that. It's great that whoever lived there kept that room for the 50+ years they lived there. If I had millions to spend on a house, I'd pick a house like this and never change anything. Seeing the wallpaper in each room was fun too, and it's cool that you appreciate it too. Thanks for the break from depressing news this morning.
Wow! So nice to see a home of that era that has not been vandalized. It was an amazing place that really captured the essence of the sixties, the colors, the wallpaper, the furnishings and the abstract room. I love the changing room, the colors made it look like such a happy place. Thank you for documenting this and taking us on the tour.
I was born in 1961 and grew up in a house built in 1959. I’d love to have a home in good shape of that era. This house is amazing. That room by the pool…. Wow, the fun teenagers must have had having parties there. If only there was a way to get photos from the family that used to live there to see how it was furnished. Love your videos and the respect you have for these homes even though they are going to be destroyed.
I retired from General Motors and Yes l bought a stove, washer and dryer back in the day with of course a Good discount. I haven’t finished watching video but so far it looks massive and Besutiful!
I had so much fun going thru this house with you. It was fantastic. Everything from the layout to the wall papers in the house. 1962 was a wonderful year. To see a home unaltered in the 60 years is pretty amazing. So happy you got this one Ethan. It's a time capsule of modern mid century at it's finest. Super "far out man"!!! Loved it.
There is so much of my childhood in that house. This is one of my all time faves that you have explored for us. I shed a few tears watching, my heart breaks knowing this beauty is going to be taken from us.
Wow! I would love to purchase this property! I would definitely keep some of the finishings in it and add as well as repair. It needs a lot of updates but the bones of the home are still good. What an investment this would be! 🥰
I am a Brit living in the UK, born in 1947 so all of this is so familiar to me. What's interesting is that we had all the same wallpaper, curtains etc so the 60's vibe was world wide. I ooh and ahh over most of your videos Ethan, keep up the good work, you are abviously an old soul.
Thank you for these videos! It is such a shame if they are going to demolish this house. Whatever they build, or whatever they spend on “new” to replace it, it won’t have 1/4 the quality or craftsmanship or character of the original.
WOW! A truly incredible original beauty!🤩 It looks like it was definitely a high-end home for the era! I'm guessing it was probably occupied by a large family who must have really enjoyed living there for sure! I love the retro appliances, it is a total change that they would be left there to be destroyed, they are very valuable part of history and very collectible! It is such a massive place, way more than I would ever need, but what a dream it would be to breathe some life back into it! The basement was very cool, it looks that may have been a small dance floor there in the middle of the room. Awesome tour, thanks!!🤟☮️
Thank you for sharing another beautiful 60's house, this place is incredible! So sad it is being torn down, it should just be renovated and restored. Love seeing all the 60's appliances, esp that Frigidaire stove!
It really makes me almost cry to think that this amazing retro classic home is gone by now. It seems so well made and seemed to be on a gorgeous piece of property. Such unique wallpapers. Love the bathrooms especially the tiny tiles that are still perfectly good after all the years. Love the kitchen. And that basement room must have seen many parties. You don’t find anything decorated like that anymore. So so cool! My favorite wallpaper was in that changing room with the matching curtains. If I were wealthy I think I would rather pay for this than a new one. Thanks for this great explore Ethan. Know it’s another older one but REALLY enjoyed this . Take care and keep safe.
The party room had a dance floor! Love all the incredible wallpaper. Amazing share Ethan. Well done. Kitchen appliances- wow. That suite of rooms in the basement might have been for “ servants “. Just cool..! Thank you.
What a super house! Every step of your tour was a joy. Loved all the vibrant wallpaper. So fun to see on this dreary day in Virginia. The recreation room with built in seating, dance floor and custom chair was a time capsule of 1960’s home entertainment. Thanks for sharing.
One of the best homes you’ve shown, one of those old houses that go on and on and on! Who ever lived in it in the 60’s and 70’s definitely was proud of it and loved it I bet. One thing I see with this house and others that you have shown , you can tell that the owner(or whoever lived in it in later years) got older, the kids grew up and moved out, the spouse probably got bad health and died later , then the person that was left just couldn’t take care of the house like before, things get junky, no cleaning up, , no maintenance or repairs, no updates to the interior or exterior, and you have what you see now. It also seems that the kids or other family members don’t want the house either in later years. I’m sure someone could come in and start a two year rehabilitation and have nice property, but I’m sure, like you said, they would rather spend that money on a newer property. Thank you Ethan for all your hard work showing us these old properties that we all pass by and wish we could go in and see!
Thanks for sharing Ethan. Would loved to have see this in its original brand new condition. I have a love for mcm architecture. I think the room off the dining room was probably an office and the marks in the carpet are from a desk. Looks like they may have had an estate sale at one point. That would account for the notes placed randomly on doors etc. The original appliances in the kitchen are a piece of history. They should be preserved and not thrown in a landfill. 😊
The room in between looked like it would be the main dining room and the room behind would normally have been a "family room", where games were played and Tv watched. Things you would want to do but couldn't do in the formal living room that was for entertaining guests. Such a lovely home...
Hey Ethan, I just started watching through the many explorer videos and I’ve found a couple of channels that I really trust and enjoy. (Nothing neg towards others, it’s simple preference). You are top notch at what you are doing and kudos to The Proper People as well. The common thread of both of you is the respect shown, not only to the privacy of the owners but also to the property. (And I don’t have to hear constant F-Bombs. Lol). I feel more like I’m getting to be a part of the documentation of wonderful, interesting, historic, outrageous, etc real estate before it’s gone or changed. And I appreciate that so much. I also love that you guys do research and share what you learn about what you are showing. And one more thing, I will never understand why so much is left behind so often. Such a waste that an opportunity is not given to allow someone to properly go in and salvage the old pieces, hardware, fixtures, etc. to help preserve some history before demolition. Anyway, excellent job, good on you for taking us along, enjoying it, and being funny about it as well! 🙌
This is one of my favorite mid century homes. I love touring the ones that are still original. I’m sure when it was built it was gorgeous! Thank you so much for these videos!! Your really good at what you do. Bring us more please!❤️
This was such a cool addition to your homes collection. I appreciate your enthusiasm. I think the blue red and yellow room might have been a kid's playroom and if it were mine I would touch up the paint and leave everything exactly as is. Love the built- in couches.
This house is a gem 💎. Between all of the beautiful spiral staircases, the chandelier in the main foyer, the peach 🍑/coral/pink bathroom 🥰, the groovy floral 🏵 🌼 shower 🚿 room where everything matched 🥰, the primary color room with the built in chair 💙 ❤ 💛 -- it's like something out of a movie... I also loved the old-school, Yellow 💛 kitchen, as well as all of the foil metallic shiny 🤍 wallpaper 🥰. This is one of my favorites that you've went to!! Thank you!!
Gorgeous home, absolutely high end custom built beauty right down to the wallpaper!! I’ll bet it was very tastefully furnished with high end Danish modern pieces all throughout too. Places like this should be preserved, this is a masterpiece the likes of which we will never see again!
I love it when your videos are uncut and real. I love the passion you have for these old homes. I grew up in the sold homes like this, and it just pleases me to see that younger people like you still find this stuff, really attractive and have a passion to go look at them. Thank you so much for sharing them it brings back so many memories for me as a kid. Be safe and I’m looking forward to many adventures ahead watching your channel.
OMG! This is my absolute favorite house in all of your videos I’ve watched. I’m not usually commenting on posts, but I had to on this one! I’m betting it’s been demolished by now since it’s an older video, but the decor and layout would have been right out of my childhood/teen years! My dream home!❤️💙💛💚🧡💃🏽🕺🏻
That was a beautiful house. The decor is definitely 60's. It's a shame that the place is being demolished but the price tag is way more than it's worth even with today's housing shortage. Nice one.
This is one of my best untouched houses you've ever done. With a few exceptions EVERYTHING in that house is still in its original form. I am over the moon that you shared this one. Like you the mid-century houses are my favorite because they had so much character to them.
I've really gotten into watching abandoned videos, the last few years & I watch several different explorers but you have always been one of my favorites & I have watched you get better & better with each video. Now, I always catch your new posts bc you seem to show the coolest & most retro homes.....I was born in May 1969 so I totally love all that groovy shag carpet & ridiculously flocked wall paper....love it all...super cool, little tacky but all fun! Keep up the great work & I think I figured out why I can follow your videos so well, in the video you mention you are a Taurus, me too....there ya go👍🙂 Sending thanks & support from a fellow Taurus from Texas☮
A very "Brady Bunch" home, I will never understand why people now days do not value retro and historic houses. Your videos are great, you don't spend time talking about what you imagine the people might have been doing in each room. New subscriber!
The mortise type door hardware on the interior doors indicates this was a high end home in its day. The hat in the basement is a clue who the former owners were, likely one of the principals of Canada Nickel. The fact that practically everything is original in the house despite the owners wealth is a testament to their frugal ways and reminds me of a saying "The best way to have money is not to spend it" Thanks for the video and for the respect you showed for the home
I loved the video . It was a really huge home for the sixties . I loved the cool wallpaper especially , and the sofas with matching doors in the basement. Thank you very much for showing this home. Awesome work Ethan. 🎉
I know how that house feels, I was also made in 1962. It is a shame that it will be taken down. Kind of sad, it was a family dream home where kids grew up and parents remained until they passed away. My first Condo was like that house, 1 family owned it, decorated it in 1965 and kept it that way until they passed away and sold it.
Thank you for sharing! Beautiful house from another era that was clearly loved. I Googled and found the obituaries and the couple who I believe built and owned the house. Fascinating people who lived long, amazing lives. Sounds like the husband made his fortune in mining and on the stock market.
Not often I watch a vid twice in a row. Gotta be in my top 3 favorite you've explored so far. It's the house that keeps on giving & you document it well, I'm able to really enjoy the whole thing.
Whats up Ethan! Love this one! Def a 60's party house. Seemed like those halls went on forever. The wallpaper was fabulous! Such a shame it will be gone forever. How many bedrooms? So glad you've documented this. Love those old places that aren't vandalized. Awesome explore and keep rockin
Thank you Ethan for showing us these houses you make it so interesting. I love you saying what’s up you guys. You show so much respect for these houses even tho they are vacant you still respect it. You are so kind. I love your showing of the houses. Keep up the good work and I hope I don’t miss any of your shows. Again thank you
WOW... just WOW! This is a really cool and massive house! Such a shame it's going to be torn down. I love some of the retro styling in there. Thanks for sharing this with us, very cool to see.
Wanted to add that I absolutely LOVED that zodiac wallpaper. This house is one of the most interesting 60s 70s time capsule houses I've seen in quite a while. Thank you for sharing this treasure.
Loved this explore. I love mid century homes and this one was definitely loved and cared for. It’s a shame they will level it and build a McMansion in its place.
That keep doors locked sign prob was to keep someone with Alzheimer’s from wondering out. Just a guess but def a possibility. Great one! Thanks for the tour. ❤️
What's up Ethan! Yess. Virgo here. I absolutely loved the orange & brown flower pool room & the spiral stair cases.. thank you for showing us another great house!
🌈🌈 Hi Ethan!! Wow this house is right up my alley! Loads of great wallpaper and original features… Can’t say enough about a house that has the original stuff! The basement with all of the art and the parquet dance floor has to be my favorite! The size of the main living room and what I think is a ballroom, which would’ve been the bigger dining room sort of thing, shows you the affluence of the owners at that time. Bedrooms were really not super large nor were kitchens that was just how things were. This one is worth watching again and again! Congratulations on all of your success could not happen to a nicer guy. #WhatIsUpYouGuys 🌈🌈 Cindy
That grand staircase was intended for formal photos - family photos, weddings, proms, etc. It's an absolutely perfect frame for a group, or a woman in a huge gown. This family was socially active at one time. I'm wondering if that huge room next to the dining room is a ballroom. The floor is very worn in the center. That doesn't seem normal for a sitting room or whatever. In the bathroom, the 60 minute time switch is for a heat lamp. The pink bathroom is probably for an elderly person with the walk in tub. Mother in law? At least two of the wallpapers are prints of famous Picasso sketches. The "living room" with the sunken floor and beautiful fireplace might be a library or study.
I have already watched this twice. I feel like there was a lot of joy in this home. I think this is the most dynamic house you have explored. They should preserve it just because it's so funky. I wish I could see the front of the house. I hope you post a picture of you in that crazy chair.
The basement is amazing. The mural and sculpture work looks like work from an artist Esteve. That stuff should have been put in a museum. And, the tapestries throughout are valuable, too! So much value there and too many philstines destroying the past. Please, take art and architecture classes to expand your vernacular on your subject matter. You’re getting better, but there is so much depth that can be shared with the masses in so many of the spaces that you have been in.
This house looks like it wax really cool for it’s era. When I was growing up my aunt had a house from the late 60s early 70s. It had the foiled wallpaper and carpet in the bathrooms. Carpeted bathrooms make no sense to me. You’re right Ethan as cool of a house as this once was no one is going to want to pay that price point for it, especially not with all the repairs it needs. It looks like it was well loved it.
Oh my gosh I just absolutely love this place! Of course my favorite room is the red room in the basement! I remember some friends that had some thing similar to this, not as many bedrooms though. They had the built-in seats by the fireplace, and everything was mid century. I love mid century! The staircase was awesome to. Wonderful little explore thank you for sharing. Take care!
Marjorie and Pat Sheridan. He died in 2015, she in 2020. He was big in Mining and she worked with Amnesty international in Toronto. 4 kids, 7 great grand children. Married 57 years.
I remember these colors and patterns. I still don't like them, but they bring back memories. I love the layout of the house and that den with built-in bookcase and fireplace is to die for! I would definitely try to restore it, if I could. I was disappointed that we didn't see the pool room, but that's probably a death trap at this point. Thank you for the great tour! This is my first time touring with you, so I did subscribe.
The big floral wallpaper (mostly orange/white) reminded me of the fabulous sectional that my grandmother had. I spent many happy hours lounging on it, wish I had it now!
Thank You so much for sharing this house. That was definitely a 60s house I do love the horoscopes room and the room that look like a dance room maybe the adult room next to the kids room down stairs. You are right it definitely needs work. It sucks that their are taking down awesome homes. But understand that new building are going up everywhere. Thank You again.
I loved how this house had cool effects!! I have seen So Many ideas in so many adventures my house is going to be HUGE!!:) lol. I liked the cubby under the stairs actually. I could see my crystal collection being displayed there:) The whole house was fabulous and its a shame to not restore it or find the plans and rebuild somewhere else!! If I had the money I would! Thanks for sharing!!:)
That home was definitely early '60's. I am 71 and I recognize the genre as I was in many homes of my parents friends and relatives of that era when I was young.
Omg that’s the oven I had growing up! The burners were in a pull out drawer! The range hood also pulled out from the top!! Ours was aqua…as was the fridge and dishwasher. My parents bought the house in 1963.. We even had that flocked wallpaper too! Wish I could post pics here, I have a ton of them! My sign is Taurus also! We are so bull headed aren’t we Ethan! Lol
Love that place. Imagine living in it when it was new? Fantastic! I bet there was a big family that lived there too. Such a shame it was let go and will be destroyed. Would have loved to seen what it looks like from the outside too, but I understand why you do not show that.
I wish you had a better 📸🔦light on your camera, this looks like a very nice home and maybe you could stay still a little longer for us to take in the scene!! those wallpapers looked interesting..
Absolutely awesome!!! I would update & live in this house!!! I was alive in the 60s, but that retro is not my thing! I am also a Taurus! Now I know why you & I are on the same page with our thoughts 👍 Gorgeous home… Prices in Canada must be inflated over prices in the US as this house would not be worth $12 million in the US!!! However, with the way that inflation has taken the housing market… it may be now😳😢😔 I am handicapped & non-ambulatory, sooo this house, with the beautiful spiral staircases, are not handicapped friendly 😰 But… if I was not handicapped, or for most people, this home would work great 👍 I love that it was owned by only 1 family 👍 You can tell that they took pride in it & that it was well loved👍🙏❤️ Congratulations Ethan on 75,000 subscriptions…you have earned it 🙏❤️ Thank you for another wonderful adventure 👍 We love you 😍❤️💕
0 seconds ago Ethan! Please give more of a steady pause on the wallpaper designs. There is a very rare Picasso wallpaper in one of the rooms! (the one with the doves). Just throwing that out here for those of us that are design/art nerds. Some wallpaper designs are lost to obsecruity and it is so nice to actually see them. You could even do a little video short compliation of just those too, I know designers and artists would love it! Thank you for all you do, and for being so kind to the homes and respecting them.
The burners were in a drawer in that 1960's stove. It may have looked like just an oven but it is an entire stove. I was amazed the first time that I saw a stove like that in the home of a college friend in the early 1970's. Great video. Thanks
Second comment because I made it to the end and saw your commentary. I watch and follow ALOT of exploring channels (all over the world). You absolutely deserve 100k followers. Watching you grow in skills and knowledge has been great to see. I really hope that before all of these 60s house are gone some get historical status. They are just as important to architectural history as the 1800s or 1900s gilded age mansions. There is a movement here in the US to try to encourage buyers to keep these mid century homes around. Hope Canada realizes and does the same. The magic of a 60s home with the colors, the entertainment areas and dedication to homes with purposeful spaces is a delight to see. These homes make you want to gather with friends, have parties and playrooms. They are such happy places. Stay safe. ❤️
Hey, Good Afternoon Ethan, I just want to let you know that, I'm moving a little slower through your videos. I got my parents very interested in the videos as well 😊 so we now started watching them together and they "school" me. This has really been enjoyable for us three, thank you for giving us the time to experience the"old" with the"new" Thank you!
I appreciate this house!! My favorite part is the party room downstairs with the red carpet and dance floor. This family was very hip!! The sparkly wallpaper is gorgeous!! And the 2 pools!! Well loved home!
I love loved this Video, seeing all those vintage Wall Papers and that dance room with the different colors and the sofas in it was amazing to see again. When I was a kid I remember going to homes where ppl had these color designs on their walls all those colorful furniture ❤️ just amazing. And all those wall papers with the year written on it, just beautiful. I lived in an apartment that had that glitter wall paper on side by side walls and vintage sofas that looked beautiful all together. I would love to use a paper like that but only on one wall if it could be found again now in days. I love seeing vintage stuff like this... makes me go back to when I was a child..
My house was the model home for the 1979 development. The master bathroom had carpet. We kept it that way for years but it was very impractical. Amazing video. Thanks
Hi Ethan. New subscriber here, love your channel. Super cool retro house! I grew up in a house that was built in the 70s and it had those intercoms in each room. As kids we had some fun with those for sure😄 Brings back memories lol. I especially loved all those funky wallpapers, I need the zodiac one in my next house😊
The Frigidaire Flair range is definitely early 60s. That Picasso "peace dove" wallpaper is wild!!!! Are those coins set in epoxy on the wet bar countertop? The solid copper backsplash would be awesome with a good polishing. The house looks like it may have had a doctor's office as part of the layout....the warren of many little rooms reminds me of consulting rooms. OMG! That rec room is to die for!!! The inset dance floor, the banquettes, the wild abstract sculptural decor is all so perfect!
WOW!!! Where to even start? This house is a total winner. Love it! That basement area (looked almost like a party space with a little dancefloor). The colours, the motifs on the walls/cupboards...so cool! The pink bathroom was nice, looked like a sunrise almost. That one room with the zodiac wallpaper: yes, there are 12 signs they're not exactly by month, they sort of overlap between months. And yes, my sign was there: Aries. Again, normally I'm not a fan of wallpaper, but that Zodiac one was really neat. The foil wallpaper in that one bedroom was neat too. The master bathroom was a bit of a letdown. I don't know...it just didn't have that certain something that grabs me and says "now that's a beautiful bathroom!". Definitely the jewel in the crown from this house is that basement party area. Too bad it can't be saved. Or at the very least some of the stuff salvaged from the house.
