Just watching this episode of "Fire Starter" on Market Watch, and it was incredibly insightful! The concept of early retirement is not just appealing but also crucial in today's fast-paced world. Watching this show has reinforced the importance of financial independence and strategic planning for retirement. Truly inspiring content!

ppl should forget how much these ppl are earning and instead look at how wisely they are spending their income- thats the REAL key to financial independence- too many ppl in the west WASTE money without realising that theyre wasting- they have fallen into the habit of seeing luxuries as necessities.

While that is true, these people are a family of 3 living on 44,000 after cutting down, while my family of 5 lives on less than 40,000. we make a little more than that and are able to save some but not nearly as much more as them. If you dont have extra after living on so little this is not an easy thing to accomplish.

What do you think it will be in 20 or 30 years? How many years do you think you can spend $100K on just a nursing home before you will run out of funds? Like all FIRE articles/videos..... very little details ( age, current net-worth, income, budget ) to judge if someone of similar circumstance can achieve finical independence at an early age. Based on the their current income of over $200,000 a year, then most like minded couples could achieve finical independence at an early age. There are many factors that could effect their plans. AND they both still work ( and get Health Insurance, Life Insurance and D&D insurance through their employer) , so they are not "Retired" and are still working for the man currently. NO details on how they will address these 'cost' in the future without having an employer that provides them. AND with a young child, health care will eat their lunch if not employed. Great for them if they can make this work, but MOST people have debt ( most likely student loan or car ) and will not make that income for some time if at anytime with their careers.

Most of these FIRE people on youtube are/were lawyers, engineers, professionals making an aver of over $150k/year. I've have not yet come across a FIRE who make the aver of $30-$40K/year. The few that do make the average income were lucky to own real estate when it was affordable and got rich due to the housing market. Others have a knack for fixing and reselling real estate. And some live in very low cost cities and living expenses. In USA you can get car insurance for $50/month. That doesn't happen in Canada. And let's not get into property taxes and other taxes and cost of living in Canada compared to the US.
@tinateews9494
@tinateews9494 4 года назад
@@Macky1101 US is very expensive too, it just depends if one lives in the urban, city or farm. Also a lot depends on how ones spend their money. I've see people who made $80, 000 per household but still made it. I know for me I'm not good at telling my money where to go and worse only making $35,000 annually. Yes the couple make good money but what's important is that they're on the same page and that's another key. They're also very disciplined with their money.

More people should embrace frugality and stop focusing on "retirement" or how much other people earn. After about 3 months of focus and work, frugal living becomes second nature and the money just piles up. So glad we had a nice asset cushion going into this recent crisis. They are correct to rent. They can pocket the $1050 difference on the rent vs mortgage PLUS the interest, insurance, upkeep, property taxes, etc Their focus is on the liquidity (cash) and putting a huge chunk of monthly savings into a large fixed asset with tons of costs makes little sense. As investment managers, they are likely putting those savings to work in the financial markets to generate higher, more immediate returns than in a home. Smart move.

good question. I am curious about the answer. Perhaps the maintenance on that house plus upcoming issues (wood rot, infestation, basement issues, who knows) made it a no brainer.
@Ziffel22
@Ziffel22 4 года назад
Without knowing the details, I would say that they sold the house and invested the profit. They now pay $1,150 pay month rent vs. $2,200 mortgage for a savings of $950 per month. They were paying $140 per month electricity in the house that they owned and now pay $76 for a further savings of $64 per month. Together that means that they saved and invested another $1,214 per month or $14,568 per year (I'm sure that they were and are maxing out their 401(k)s) for another $36,000 per year pre-tax, which also saves money on taxes. Another plus is now if a better opportunity rolls around they are not stuck trying to sell their house quickly, possibly in a down market.

Occasionally, but not often, a couple will be so in tune with each others goals that it works out. This could be one of those times. Another draconic concept is that a woman can't fend for herself and will need to take the man for 50% of this wealth or she can't possibly survive. Women are empowered to provide for themselves and the only help the should expect is child support for a reasonable number. Having said that, every serious relationship I have been in kept the finances separate with the understanding that my retirement is mine and theirs is theirs.

I totally disagree. 75% of youngsters can barely get on the property ladder let alone save money for an early retirement. The cost of moving has Lways outpaced wages and continues do do so. The people who have the greater chance are those without kids and good salaries combined. Their in the fast lane.
