The first location we visited was okay, and perhaps it would get better come mid or late summer, but at the time of this visit the water was quite high.
Thanks for watching.

You are right, that area of the world is really beautiful, as is the Salmon River. It would be neat to polish a big bucket of garnets and do a countertop covering with epoxy.

Oooh, you said Schist!!!😜 One of the three S's (Schist, Slate, Shale) hahaha Good stuff sir thank you for sharing another adventures out n about. Very cool finds out there IMO...one of my favorite mineral growth combinations is garnet growing on graphite so the garnets on schist would be pretty cool too! Am stuck at my desk working and dreaming of being out hunting for some "treasure" but appreciate that I can live vicariously through others who are out enjoying life! 🤦‍♂️😂 Have a nice rest of your week and will catch up soon~

@@CurrentlyRockhounding its from a mine in Massachusetts (Red Ember) which is semi famous for the almandine garnets on graphite. Would also like to collect some of the almandine garnets from Alaska..some of those fist sized ones~ haha the ones I do have I've polished up the facets and they look really cool IMO. Anyway, thanks again for taking us along for the trip~

Great video, some nice finds and a gorgeous area! An oldtimer at Emerald Creek told me if you put the garnet rich sand in a tumbler, all the schisty bits and quartz get ground away and you’re left with pure garnet sand. Haven’t tried it yet myself but could be a good method to get just the garnets out!

A tip from another garnet video; Pan the material, then quickly flip the pan over onto a piece of plywood. The largest garnets will then be on TOP of the pile.

What if you use that trick I think they used for sapphires where they shook all the gemstones to the bottom of the pan and then flipped it upside down leaving the gemstones kind of centered in the pile on top. It would be worth a shot just to see if you could end up with a red center on your pile.

@@CurrentlyRockhounding Oh camping, that’s a great idea, is it a pretty safe area ? Reason I ask that is because I had a bad experience at a Washington state park, I was shot at by some assholes while fishing, called for help, took over an hour for a Trooper/Ranger (can’t remember) to show up, he went & talked to the shooters then he left, within 15 minutes those assholes shot at me again, I just packed up & left. Our state parks are being over run by nefarious people & they are harassing people to the point that people are no longer able to feel safe while out trying to enjoy public parks, lakes, etc. sorry, I went on a rant🤣

Higher up the Ruby Creek embankment it flattens out a bit more and is less dangerous to dig, just be cognizant of sending any stones down to the road. I used classifier to sift out all the fine sands and tiny garnets. I was getting about dime-sized garnets as well as garnet on chunks of a white kinda chalky host rock. On a local facebook mineral group I've seen pictures of a very dark, shiny black rock hosting very deep red looking garnets found here. Maybe in that very sketchy hole...........
