Hey everyone! To those of you who can't find the package: Unity has moved the "Show Preview Packages". You can now find it under Edit -> Project Settings -> Package Manager -> Enable Preview Packages. If you check that box, you should see preview packages in the Package Manager! :-) Stay awesome!

If you can't find the Visual Effects Graph under your Package Manager, start your project with the High Definition Render Pipeline.

I would love to see a more in depth video on practical stuff like placing a building with a 'bounce' effect, destroying or deleting it with a smoke cloud, or use different animated stages constructing/deconstructing a building

I love this! I would like to see more on this as while it is similar in some ways to shader graph, there seem to be differences as well. I love that you can group nodes and label them. Stickys don't stay with a group though. Hope they continue to develop this as a VFX tool. Thanks for going over this Brackeys!

Maybe kind of a tricky question, but what is the average ballpark of a particle limit you should put on a system? Like, I know there are a lot of variables like how many you have in a scene, what else is going on in the scene, the user's GPU specs, etc., but I don't even have a remote ballpark. Thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Millions?

I am very happy that Unity invests finally in a GPU-based particle system. But the Min-Max values in the initialization section are mathematically a nonsense. In 3D you need 3 Vectors and for each Vector a Min-multiplicator and a Max-multiplicator going from minus infinity to infinity. I would also like to see a solution that works with Android and iOS. PopcornFX shows that it is possible.

It isn't broken, change the exposure settings in the post-processing and it should work. Also, try to add it again in the VFX Graph (after the resources are loaded first time)

@@jaketidiman9233 So you can either set it to automatic/curve or better - In the VFX graph if you select the output section, there is a new setting Use Exposure Weight(in the inspector), enable that and you will have a slider in the Output block that controls how much exposure weight is transferred to the particles. The particles start showing up if you lower it. Hope it helps

@@ScorgeRudess What about blueprints like system? I didn't know Unity's gonna implement visual scripting. Do you have source? Other than that - UE4 allows for a much better visual stuff out of the box, while in Unity you have to spend some time setting everything up and tweaking things. When I'll be able to create a new scene and immideately gain nice visuals + basic mechanics (like shooting/racing/etc) - that will be awesome. Until then - still UE.

More, please. So far most all tutorials and demos I have seen just makes a fireball or something similar and don't show any practical use. Would definitely like to see a real-world example of say, a character charging up a spell and casting it.

@@TheSilverlost I am aware of what you are saying, but that is not what I mean, I don't care if the actual character just stands still. I am referring to actually creating and using an effect that is more than just a stationary ball with turbulence.

@@cosminungur2607 Yes, something like that would be just fine. Anything really in which it is more than just a simple single item sitting there letting the current fixed settings dictate what it is doing in a loop.

I can't get it working. Got the HD Render pipeline installed and VFX, in 2018.3.0f2. I've updated to the most recent preview packages. But when I make a VFX gameobject and drag it into my scene like at 2:03 there is no effect showing (not in editor mode but also not in runtime..). What am I doing wrong?

I'm answering kinda late, but i've fixed this problem by creating a HDRP asset( create -> rendering -> high definition rendering pipeline asset) and then going to edit -> project settings -> graphics and setting Scriptable Render Pipeline Settings to use your just created HDRP asset.

@@NeoCroMagnon I don't know, then. Maybe you're missing dependencies. I've realised that this asset was missing once i created a HDRP project and looked around the settings to see the difference. Try doing that

Brackeys has somehow recreated a visual of the heartbeat of the Universe. This is exactly what our hyper drive pathing display looks when we are setting up for a jump to another part of the universe. We do not use light speed as every species that tried it in a ship was shredded into a gazillion pieces in a millisecond. You have to use the pathing of energy throughout the universe to channel and fold space. When the lines meet, it opens a gage to travel along the lines. Where the line ends is where your ship stops. The gage is the line you are traveling through. Maybe the word you use is tunnel. I just thought it was funny that a great scientific mystery was here on RU-vid and done by a Tech Evangelist.

This is why i hate unity. you can't do shit without the right version and addons and assets and code and .... there will never be something like up to date... Now i can't create a simple explosion vfx because I'm dumb and don't want to figure it out!

If particles aren't drawing for you and if you're installing this onto a current project and not using the HD template... After installing the HD Render Pipeline package, create a Rendering=>High Definition Render Pipeline Asset and drop it into Project Settings/Graphics - Scriptable Render Pipeline Settings to get the particles to draw.

Can you run this in the old render pipeline? Converting to the new one is a bitch... custom shaderlab shaders(curving glowing etc) don't work at all.

Note: If you don't see Visual Effect Graph listed in Package Manager, hit the advanced button and select Show Preview Packages, this is off by default in 2018.3.

Here is an incredibly tiny suggestion for enjoyment of all involved parties: Changing the Windows mouse cursor for background activity to the same as no activity. I live a very happy live since I've done this.

Thank you for this tutorial, I enjoyed every second of it! One thing I wasn't able to find out is, how you can map variables from other scripts inside the gameobject to the VFX-parameters. There are Binders, which work well for the position of other objects. I'd like to set the 'Spawn Rate' for example from within a other script. Is there a simple solution? So far I didn't find any.

Holy crap I'm struggling with this for hours, its 4am and I have work in 2 hours. I want to kill myself. I'm using 2019.1(2018.4). When I remove the Render settings and Post Processing settings, the VFX works perfectly, but with them in the scene, nothing shows. You were sneaky, setting up your scene beforehand, what are your render and post-process settings???? If anyone could help this fool, he would greatly appreciate it.

Calculations are not faster on the GPU. It's the parallel computing that makes it so fast.

That's not entirely true. Yes, core for core CPUs are a lot faster than GPUs. And yes, if you count up the cores the GPU is way, way faster. But that's not the whole story. GPUs are very fast in certain type of workloads and very, very slow in others. The common example is branching, at which GPUs are pretty terrible. They do however excel at floating point operations, which this happens to mostly be. So even core for core, the GPU might just catch up, if not overtake a CPU.

Please make a tutorial on health system. if the player falls from a distance then the health bar decreases and when it goes down to 0, after like um... 5 seconds the player will restore in the position we set. it would be super cool please do that please. like my comment(if you agree), then it will be on top & probably he will see it :)

Awesome intro, but would like to see some more context to it - I suggest showing more how it could be used practically, in this case, maybe make a cool looking shooting fireball/freezeball effect that can be shot from a wand, sci-fy weapon etc - keep up the great work!
