You are a true craftsman, Justin! Folks should call you first if they want the mill work done right. I imagine you have more than you can handle, with your own farm, raising two beautiful daughters, and growing all those mustard greens ! 😀🌱

I ain’t saying that’s great they got someone else to dress one of their stones, but pretty cool you now have that data of your hand dressing vs that of pneumatic tools. Clearly that mill now knows who the real professional is!! 😁 Thanks for sharing with us and I hope you have a great weekend!

While it’s just a guess, I’d say a large number of homesteaders want to go back to the old ways for many good reasons. What you showed was an excellent example. If you had asked me a year ago about how a mill works, I would’ve said “I don’t know.” Now I can at least give a general answer, thanks to you!

Jethro, I hope to raise about 10 acres of corn next year and then I normally go back and plant wheat as a cover crop and usually just winter graze it. Since the milk company has cut us off, I've sold my cows down to about 50 head of milking shorthorns which are out on pasture from the first of April to the first of November. I'm going to try an calve them in November and December next year and feed the excess milk to the hogs so I'm going to have plenty of fall pasture. What kind of wheat should I use to make flour out of? I want something that will winter good. The only thing I have to grind it is what I would use to grind my corn with which is a burr mill, will that work? if not what would you suggest I try to find? I don't want anything great big, thank you.

Howdy, I was wondering where your located at. Me and some other people would be interested in milk. Would you be interested in selling milk to us, and how much would we have to buy at a time to make it worthwhile to you
@obresonfarms6574
@obresonfarms6574 2 года назад
@@lloydfortner1663 Not sure I'm legally allowed to. They didn't cut us off because there was anything wrong with the milk, they cut us off because we couldn't meet their increasing quotas and we wouldn't use antibiotics and hormones to make them produce more

Do you mill differently for grits Justin, or are they a particular kind of corn? I haven’t actually tried them yet though I came to America nearly forty years ago.
@metcalfmills5679
@metcalfmills5679 2 года назад
Great question Angela! The difference is how close together the stone are set. Close together will produce fine flour, farther apart will produce corn meal, grits and even cracked corn for chicken feed. It is all in the adjustment. Thank you!
