i feel like the main problem with surplus today isnt the cost of the guns but the price of ammo for them. it would be like if toyota had a blowout price on camrys but they only function with premium gas. mosins and mausers are the only full size milsurp with even remotely affordable ammo right now. 30-06 is starting to drift into the expensive realm now too
I agree 100% hints why I just saved my money on buying odd caliber rifles and bought a svt 40 and Egyptian fn 49 to go with my 8 mosin variations and 7 8mm mausers. I love my m38 carcano, type 99 and number 4 mark 1* but ammo hurts the wallet when shooting those. I can run light Ball through my svt 40 all day and as long as I take an hour to clean the piss out of it, it's all day fun.
I have an 1889/11 Schmidt Ruben straight pull rifle I bought last year and I have fired it. The straight pull bolt takes a bit of getting used to I want to try and pull down when I moved the bolt but its straight pull actually helps your reset the target picture and they are very accurate.Yes I noticed RTI is selling 1889/11's, K11's and K31's at a much lower price than I paid for mine and they are coming from Switzerland not from Ethiopia which is a plus in my book.
This year, I've acquired a Swiss K11 for $399, a Spanish Mauser Model 1893 for $395, a Norinco SKS for $470, a Nagant Revolver M1895 for $300, and a CZ-82 for $300. There are somewhat affordable surplus guns still on the market, you just have to know where to shop. Go to local gun stores, especially mom and pop places. You'll never find surplus like they were 10 years ago, or even before COVID, but there are still some great firearms on the market. Also, don't pay gunbroker prices.
I'm so glad I got mine back in 2012, I was buying mags whenever I saw them pop up, currently at eight plus the one that is matched to the gun. Mine is a 1940 dated and the service member that it was issued to also had my first name.
Hello, I just ordered a K11 from RTI for 399.99 with mag , sling and muzzle cap. I rolled the dice , I didn't pay extra for hand select as these rifles are usually cherry . I already own a k31 which is awesome . I really enjoy your reviews . I will let you know how it works out .
My G1911 came in today. I have the K-31 but not a long version. After watching you I ordered it and it was numbers matching with beautiful metal and then [Drum Roll Please] it had the tag under the butt plate. thanks Man
I am now on a fixed income, so buying even the cheapest surp is likely not happening, but years ago, it was easy to get an SKS with all of it's Accessories for $70-75. And later, Mosen Nigants for around $100. I just love holding history found in even the poorest of surps........ Love it!
In the early/mid-1990's, I remember some small department stores having 55 gallon drums full of old military surplus rifles from the WW1 and pre-WW1 eras, all packed in cosmoline. They could be purchased for less than $100.....many were in the $50 to $80 range and were in beautiful condition, various Mausers, Mosin-Nagants, while the Enfields and Springfields were in the $100-$150 range. Kind of crazy when you think about it now. SKS's and Norinco MAK-90's could be had for around $100...or less!
Schmidt-Rubins were $37.50 when I first saw them, at K-Mart and Gibson's, in 1967. Moisin-Nagants were $17.95. Of course people were making a dollar or two an hour back then, so they weren't really that much of a bargain when you think about it. But the supply and variety of surplus military weapons was unbelievable.
I picked up a K31 about 1 year ago, then got the "bug" and got a K11, then just picked up a HUGE SCORE in a 96/11 1903 and NEVER FIRED, pristine condition !
Ordered a K31 after seeing this video earlier! I didn’t put in for any hand selected rifles, so I’m hoping the one I receive will be decent. Thanks for another great video!
Love my Swiss rifles, have a G96/11, and a K-31. Just need to reload and you will have plenty or reasonable ammo to shoot. Also have the 1929 revolver in 7.5Swiss Ord, and have to reload for it as well.
Got one of these back during the Golden Age for $150.00, with all the accessories including the sling, excellent quality rifle, no longer have it though.
I agree, get them while you can. I will buy another k31 as the one in my collect came unissued and un shot from sarco many years ago. I’ve never shot the virgin but now I have a chance to buy another at a ridiculous price. Let’s hope the ammo will stay reasonable in my lifetime.
We get had in Australia, we just had a huge influx of these at dealers but range from $1500-$1800. Funny part is the greedy dealers don’t seem to be selling many.
I would worry about the ammo availability , more than anything else . There are some really nice French rifles as well . Same issue , ammo is in an oddball caliber .
I will stick with things I can get fairly easily , that way I can stock ammo easily . Plenty of good things to choose from . Remember the primer shortage ? Just Sayin . @@Benderman62
I got a "yugo mauser?" yugo capture remarked k98k for 120$ from a pawn shop sold as "unusable" turns out the "ruined" barrel was dirt, the trigger was stuck cause dirt and while totally mismatched it passed a go/no-go headspace gauge. Ended up with a great shooting kar 98k for $120... I didnt talk them down either, they thought it was legit trash. I hate to think what they paid the guy who sold it to them...
Early 2000's, they were so cheap, a friend actually gave me one for free. Don't need any more. But, Simpson is listing a lot of them for the past 3 weeks, if anyone wants one.
Swiss military rifles are amazing (I own many) but the most accurate generally fielded bolt rifle was probably the Ross' Both super high quality straight pulls :)
I went with the G11 long rifle when I saw them listed, but I wonder, given that I already own both a G11 and a K31, does the K11 bring anything to the table that these other Swiss rifles I own don’t? I’m not a crazy OCD completionist when it comes to getting an example of every rifle under the sun.
The thing with these is they're usually always in good condition because the Swiss take care of their rifles. Royal Tiger Imports seems to be out of the ones I bought but wait they usually get more.
Not a fan of these things, either. Not only have they never been in a war (the last time the Swiss fought a war it was in 1847 with themselves) but they never even sold them to a third party that used them in a war. They have zero military history as far as I'm concerned. I mean they're obviously well built but the lack of history attached to them is a turnoff for me.
love your videos, but do us a favor and put on some eye protection when shooting these old relics! it only takes 1 bad round to ruin a day at the range. okay, I'll get off my soap box now.
if that is what you collect for. if you were interested in old world craftsmanship and good vintage quality they are a great pick. surplus does not mean been in a war.
@@sinisterthoughts2896 Know how people say, "Wow... If this rifle could talk..."? Well, if a K31 could talk it would say it spent its entire life in Switzerland doing absolutely nothing. BOOORRRRIIIINNNNG.....
I just scored my ultimate Swiss unicorn for $395!It was sold as an 1889 but is actually an unconverted 1889/96 and as if that's not enough it seems to be a trials rifle with the bolt having serial number 5 and the band, nose cap, trigger guard, and magazine being number 6. I'm absolutely beside myself!
@@ethanlevequeman Im seriously thinking about it. If I can borrow my friends studio for good lighting I will! And I'll let you know🤙 youtube.com/@emoryzakin2576?si=MgYdUdueM3JXEPpn
@@easydoz1 man I've posted the link here 3 times and RU-vid keeps deleting it. If you'll clink on my name or search- Swiss 1889/96 it "should" be there. Super weird
GP11 ammunition is getting harder to come by in my area. It was unobtanium for 9 to 12 months or so but it appears some has hit the market in the last month. Obviously the 7.5mm Swiss cartridge is currently manufactured so you will be able to shoot your rifle but the GP11 is as high a quality as the rifles that shoot it.
The GP11 is manufactured by the state. There is no official data on the ammunition such as V0 data. The quality varied from batch to batch and can sometimes be really bad. In addition, the projectile of the GP11 is a steel-jacketed bullet that puts more stress on the barrel than other 7.5x55 Swiss ammunition. I never shoot my K31 with GP11, but with ammunition from Sellier & Bellot, for example.
K31's are a bit more accurate than the previous swiss straight pull rifles. K11's shoot decent too don't get me wrong. But the K31 has it's reputation for accuracy for a reason, trust me. PPU does make 174 grain soft points for hunting. 7.5x55 Swiss is pretty much equal in power to 7.62x51mm.
When they first showed up, a dealer was selling K-31s for $90. Early 2000s. The military ammo is designed for the rifle. I shot mine against 3 03 springfields at a gallon jug out 400 yards in a plowed field free hand. The K 31 put a hurting on them 03s. I hit the jug twice in about 15 shots. I second everything he is saying. They are fun to shoot. Paid $200 each for the 1911s, $295 for the 96/11 long rifle, $395 for the 1889 in .22 long rifle. 1889 accuracy is not good at all. Surprised it was not good.
I bought a K11 Carbine (All-Matching, including Bayonet) from Simpson Ltd years ago (I think I paid $350 for it) Great shooter! I wish GP-11 was still available, sadly it is not. I the only complaint, it didn't have a troop tag. :(
considering swiss gun owners have been saying they have had a hard time getting gp11 i have low hopes of seeing any stateside anytime soon or at a decent price
I had not really been into swiss rifles, but after watching this video i did a bunch of research and youtube searches, then bought one from RTI. Great vid man.
Thanks for the heads up you are my favorite milsurp channel I headed over to centerfire systems and picked up another k11 for my Swiss milsurp collection
Fuckin 20 to 30 bucks. In my area I've seen bulk surplus ammo for these still floating around 1.20 to 1 dollar a round. Not the most expensive or impossible ammo to find. It's about like ant other mainstream milsurp caliber besides jap shit
these guns coat the Swiss about 85 dollars to manufacture so that line about . So that is a crazy statement about the guns costing 3000 dollars to make is wildly inaccurate and you do not get to convert 85 dollars to 3000 in any modern attempt to justify a 400 dollar rifle no one wanted until the covid year. Its a good price but cheaper than origional manufacture? PLEASE.
Just bought a K31 from Royal Tiger Imports. It's being shipped. Man for $400 it's said to be very good to excellent condition! Can't wait to get a straight pull bolt . Nice video.
