This is the high speed Milwaukee ratchet and the snap on ratchet. Just showing the difference between high speed and standard.

For that I’d use the Milwaukee right angle impact. I think Milwaukee emphasized speed over torque because at the end of the day, a 3/8 or 1/4 isn’t really meant for heavier torque applications such as caliper bracket bolts. Let me tell you though, when you’re doing an oil change on modern cars, you tend to fall in love with the Milwaukee taking the 20 damn 10mm holding skid plates on 😂 I’d suggest using what’s best for your needs, and if you can afford it, have both lol
@Enrightauto

Yes agreed I love my 1/2 right angle. But I wanted to use them in this scenario because it was a good example to show the high speed ratchet compared to a more torque geared ratchet.

I just don't know why you would use an electric ratchet for skid plate bolts... I just use my small 3/8 impact. Impacts are definitely a hell of a lot faster, and as long as you're not goosing the trigger the entire time you never have to strip anything out.
@sethh8892
@sethh8892 10 месяцев назад
@@Lo_Beats just get a 14.4 snap-on impact, you never have to worry about the little paddles that go from forward to reverse, those things suck. It's got a wobble trigger, the top one puts the bolt on the bottom one takes the bolt off. Super high quality and nice feeling, does the job every time. And they're a lot better than an electric ratchet.

@bradbeck2601
@bradbeck2601 Год назад
Well... it's like 120,000 pulls of the arm over 20 years and it makes a world of difference when you're in a spot that you don't have swing room. And it's about $200 more than the Milwaukee. So, kind of worth it.
@nomanboi4032
@nomanboi4032 Год назад
@@bradbeck2601 To be honest, you're gonna need that one pull for the snap-on anyways. That bracket is pretty loose so I'm guessing he already undid the bolts a little. And on the plus side, the Milwaukee can swap batts from tool to tool like cake . Snap-on has it aswell but they suck with it and it's a bit annoying. I guess it's time to get the impact version to save that arm.
@bradbeck2601
@bradbeck2601 Год назад
@@nomanboi4032 I usually get it up to speed first then slam it on to the fastener. You'd be surprised what those ratchets can break free like that, they just can't sustain it if it comes out hard the whole way. That's probably why I've had 3 or 4 rebuilds among the two snap on ones I have though 😅. The 90° impact kind of sucks, It has saved me a couple times but there really isn't much that I found it useful for, other than wasting time and money. And yeah, the snappy batteries are a pain to remove, although, if you clean out under the tabs every now and then it helps.
@bradbeck2601
@bradbeck2601 Год назад
@@nomanboi4032 to be fair to the right angle impact though, I'm a heavy equipment mechanic, It might be more useful in the automotive world but it has a very long handle, power is lackluster, obviously you can't use it like a ratchet, and it's a bit cumbersome to use. I found the Milwaukee 12v mini 3/8 impact with a high output battery my go-to tool. That thing is TINY and has an impressive amount of power.

Call me old fashioned but I love using a pneumatic 3/8” impacting ratchet. Throw a swivel whip on it and they are perfect tools. My fav ultra-compact impacting air ratchet is the Astro 1128. Regular size is the Earthquake 3/8” impacting air ratchet. Both are smooth as butter, have some balls and are smaller & lighter than anything battery powered. If you use a hook on your air line to support the weight of the air line itself, it really helps manage the line. This is the step that all the young mechanics don’t understand. I like battery tools just fine, they certainly have their place. I just don’t like battery ratchets for anything below the headlights 😂. Battery impacts have gotten really good but the ratchets fall short of air consistently.

I've owned the non-fuel Milwaukee ratchet for a while now. I didn't really understand it when I bought it. So once I couldn't break anything loose I threw it into the bottom of my toolbox. Understanding that you can break something loose with a breaker bar or the ratchet itself and then just power it. The rest of the way is a huge time saver. That all said, I don't think I would spend any money on something more powerful since that's not its purpose and the weaker ones tend to have smaller heads that fit in tighter places. While I get your point of this video, I would also say if there is a flip side to all of us where the smaller cheaper ratchets have advantages too.

They were all loose before I started recording. That’s the point I broke them loose but the bolts on that vehicle build up with rust and when you try and back them out they are extremely tight the whole way out. The milwaukees don’t have to beans to run them out because they are low torque but high speed. Vs the snap on which is higher torque but lower speed. Just two different animals is all

He definitely did say in the video that he was already manually cranking out the bolts so the bolts are already broken loose you can hear and see him just put the ratchet on and just hit the button and when he did the top bolt you can hear and see that the bolt was pretty tight on their but the Milwaukee just didn’t have the torque to turn it out it probably losses some torque for the faster RPM
@ColombianMax
@ColombianMax 11 месяцев назад
Interesting comparison! Besides being 12v vs 14.4v the Snap-On battery does look a tad larger. Not sure how many amps but I'd guess a couple more than that 2.0, 2.5, or 3.0AH on the Milwaukee. Wonder if putting a 4.0,5.0, or 6.0 AH on the Milwaukee would make it more comparable?
@Enrightauto
@Enrightauto 11 месяцев назад
The new insider ratchet is the play in this case. 60 ft lbs which matches the snap on and 350 rpm’s compared to snappy’s 275 rpm’s. Now I still feel the snappy has more actual torque than the insider but it’s definitely much more up to the task and a great ratchet

on this ratchet it does actually matter. but to be fair they got the gear ratio wrong. it's like they had a good thing but kept hearing how much faster snap on was, so whev they went tiny head one, they geared it to be faster and it's a bit too weak. oddly the old brushed ones are about perfect, nice head, usable power and fast enough. should have just added a brushless to that for a bit more of both and called it a day. oh and made and extended one. Although it isn't made for breaking bolts loose, the milwaukee does stall out too easily and that gets annoying when youve got something like a lock nut or a bolt with a little bit of thread locker on it or some imperfect threads which dont allow the bolt to turn super easily. A more torquey ratchet could get the job done without stalling. Even though the milwaukee isn't very torquey, the fact that it's not crazy loud or tied to an air hose makes it so much handier than a traditional air ratchet. I use my milwaukee ratchet every day while my air ratchet doesnt do anything more than collect dust.
