I finally bought a Milwaukee Duct Knife to see if it would make a good survival knife. I ran it through all my standard testing and the results might surprise you.

I’ve used this knife for 2 years now. No problems at all. I do pro lawn and landscape work. This knife does it all, from cutting trimmer line and plastic pots to branches and weed roots. Even bagged a few moles and a snake. The sheath is great it retains the blade and doesn’t jam-up. Made a little Velcro retainer strap to wear it as a boot knife. I would give it an 8.5.

Guess I'll have to buy one now. I have a Milwaukee fastback folding utility knife with the locking screwdriver. I modified the retention for the phillips head/flathead reversible bit. I changed it from a wire thing that I didn't really like to magnet epoxied in the bottom. It works great and I have beaten it up thoroughly. I carry it just about every day. Milwaukee makes surprisingly good knives. Who knew?

I had been looking at this knife for a while too, so I got one about year and a half ago. Wasn't thrilled with the sheath, but it is not unusual to have a great knife come with a so-so sheath. Love the sharpness and balance and light weight. I didn't test with a ferro rod because I'm more interested in it's use as a low cost fighting knife. Thank you for the fire test! Mine was under 20 bucks at the time. Inflation! Milwaukee Tools has a number of knives that are of interest outside their intended use.

@@rossogden9920 Yes. Improvised weaponry has been an area of research for years. I'm especially interested in how a person can become armed quickly for either not a lot of money or when traditional weapon are not available. I wouldn't underestimate this knife, it has some good qualities of a fighter: very light and very sharp. It's certainly better than a butter knife which, in the right hands is more effective than a $500 Emerson in clueless hands.

Well this is REFRESHING! It is great to see a good review on a name that we know, made well and doesn't cost $200 or more. It is easy to get hung up on the name brands, the types of steel, the handles... And they are all high cost $$$. And then I am reluctant to use the thing or get it dirty because of what I spent on it. I am happy to see a great knife that I can take everywhere, get it dirty, wash it off, and it's ready to go again. Boom! Thanks for the informative demo and info about the fully-encased full tang.
