I have been dabbling with the idea of a Lurtz scouts list, and this is the first time I've seen it used by someone who knows it well. I think I'm sold on the idea!

Thanks! I’m not an expert with it but have played quite a few games and think I’ve cracked what Lurtz and his scouts are good at… running away! Haha! The LL plays very well into timed games because you can usually get the objective done fast and then just run away and play avoidance tactics (it’s a little game-y but the scouts die so fast if you just run them into a spear/shield combo) It’s definitely worth giving Lurtz’s scouts a go! They play different to other “standard” armies so it’s a nice change of pace, plus if you don’t like the play style it’s an easy transition to Ugluks scouts that are supposed to be real strong at low points and do play a little more like a traditional army.

Thanks a lot for this fantastic video. It was great seeing these superfast Uruks moving around and dealing with a shield wall - bassically by forcing Elliot (?) split up his force. I am toying with the idea of bringing either Lurtz' or Ugluks Scouts to a 424 point Tournament later this year. Seeing this did not make my decision easier but it was a lot of fun. So thanks again 🙂

Thanks for the comment! That’s what this army list/LL does best! It can run round the back of a shield wall and because of the S3 bows they have to come to you but in doing so they get trapped by either side. I brought that exact army list in the video to a local tournament a couple of months ago and finished on 3-1-0 (first 2 games I won but only killed a few horses in the first game and a Glorfindel in the second game) I haven’t played Ugluks scouts - have a Grishnak and Snaga to build and paint, I’ve heard it kills things easier but is tricky to manage the different movement speeds.

@@PointofMight The different movement speeds are a bit of a bummer. In my test games it almost always lead to a point where i had to engage the battle line, whether i wanted or not. I am trying to work out the details - the super fast infantry is a lot of fun, so I will keep on 🙂

Wow a great report Nathan! Nathan is always a fantastic opponent. Hes super scary with that lurtz scouts legion!! The movement is immense. I had to move to stop you shooting but in theory you could march/ drum and still move further than me and shoot 😂

Thanks Elliot! Movement is king! 👑 I don’t know what you could have done different to be fair, if the dice didn’t betray you and Boromir killed Lurtz you would have won the game!

I feel like the MT could have been played a bit more tactically by choosing to stay together and go for one of the groups of Uruk-Hai that was actually close, if the Uruk-hai want to flee, you can let him do that, just kill the models that are within reach and kill them piecemeal but then maybe the problem was time running out and MT had to try to secure a victory from killing the heroes. On another note, the list would probably be improved from having a few more rangers for both F4 support and the shooting, if you don't have other F4 models it might be a good idea to actually count those Osgiliath veteran models as veterans instead of normal warriors, since Boromir is in the list. Also, get Boromir his banner haha, it is 6 points more expensive than the loose banner bearer and it is insanely strong, suddenly you're equal fight value on your rangers and Osgiliath veterans to the heroes of the Uruk list. But very nice Batrep interesting tactics and good to actually see clash by moonlight, I don't think you see that one often in BatReps somehow.

We were playing to a timer and knew we only really had that turn left so Elliot had to make something of the turn, I remember him saying he wouldn’t have risked it with Boromir if we were playing longer, saying that if the dice were on his side and Boromir killed Lurtz Minas Tirith would have snatched a victory!

Was last turn of the game to try and sneak a win. If it wasn't the last turn I wouldn't have done it.
