Always felt this clean edit is far better. The vocals are felt more for some reason. Maybe it's because they sound vulnerable. Yeah that's it. Brings more realism to the situations. Very dope
Yes! It proves rappers can use creative words in their lyrics without using profanity. And at least rappers back then made complete edit versions not just blanking out the cuss words!
+Tameka Harris I always assumed the radio edit was the original, and they rerecorded the explicit version. "It was dark as death on the streets" vs. "It was dark as f--- on the streets" -- the explicit seems so forced. Wish the radio edit was available commercially now.
Sherkia Smith yeah I feel y'all my grandmothers Angie and Helen past years back I listened to this after their department maybe your uncle may have meet them
The profanity is the main focus when YOU make it the main focus! Its like the only thing your brain focuses on because your whole life you've been taught to feel uncomfortable when someone curses.
@@joshnippleton3449 That was stupid! It doesn't take much creativity throwing F bombs every other sentence. Shut up! The 80's had real lyricists not like this crap today!
@@YhwhKhaiMostHigh It's an expression of emotion and is in the dictionary for a reason. You don't like it, go listen to nursery rhymes or some shit if it triggers you that bad.
This song used to scare the hell out of me when I was a little kid. This was the exact version that I remember. My cousin recorded this song from the radio onto a cassette (remember those?) lol Good times...
I smoked Bill out at the Def Jam funeral after party-Rick Rubin's label. Some 1994 outdoor goo from Humboldt -never met Bill before but loved this record. He was like an excited kid when I told him I was playing in a band with a Ramone-"I love the Ramones." he said smiling-infectious unbounded positivity from this guy! Got to hang out with Bushwick for a good 20 minutes that night, stoned as a bat, I'll never forget the beautiful energy he had. RIP brother.
Day by day it's more impossible to cope I feel like I'm the one that's doing dope Can't keep a steady hand because I'm nervous Every Sunday morning I'm in service This shit resonates.
I prefer this version better. I like when artists take the time to write a clean version without hearing all the beeps. The clean version of nuttin but a g thang is better than the explicit version
Guitar hook is awesome. Beat is heavy, lyrics fit. Knocks me out every time. Heard a high school band play the hook years ago at a 🏀 game. Gets ya goin. Even better with 🏈. Go Chiefs! Football with Soul. 😎
This might be one of the only songs where the clean version is the better one. Both versions are haunting to listen to but there's something about this track flows better. It's still a classic after all these years
Clean lyrics [Intro: Scarface] I sit alone in my four-cornered room staring at candles "Cool out man, we in the Radio dukes" we're in the Radio dukes "yeah" ooh, alright, check this here [Verse 1: Scarface] At night I can't sleep, I toss and turn Candlesticks in the dark, visions of bodies bein' burned Four walls closin' in gettin' bigger I'm paranoid, sleepin' with my finger on the trigger My mother's always stressin' I ain't livin' right But I ain't going out without a fight See, everytime my eyes close I start sweatin' and blood starts comin' out my nose There's somebody watchin' the Ack' But I don't know who it is, so I'm watchin' my back I can see him when I'm deep in the covers When I awake I hear a call burnin' rubber He owns a black hat like I own A black suit and a cane like my own Some might say, "Take a chill, B" But I can't G, cause there's somebody trying to kill me I'm poppin' in the clip when the wind blows Every twenty seconds got me peepin' out my window Investigatin' the joint for traps Checkin' my telephone for taps I'm starin' at the woman on the corner It's messed up, when your mind is playin' tricks on you [Verse 2: Willie D] I make big money, I drive big cars Everybody know me, it's like I'm a movie star But late at night, somethin' ain't right I feel I'm being tailed by the same sucker's head lights Is it that fool that I ran off the block? Or is it that clown last week that I shot? Or is it the one I beat for five thousand dollars Thought he had caine but it was Gold Medal Flour Reach under my seat, grabbed my popper for the suckers Ain't no use to me lyin, I was scareder than a mother Hooked a left into Pop eye's and bailed out quick If it's goin' down, let's get it over with Here they come, just like I figured I got my hand on the chrome play the trigger What I saw'll make your self start gigglin' Three black crippled and crazy senior citizens I live by the sword I take my boys everywhere I go, because I'm paranoid I keep lookin' over my shoulder and peepin' around corners My mind is playin' tricks on me [Verse 3: Scarface] Day by day it's more impossible to cope I feel like I'm the one that's doing dope Can't keep a steady hand because I'm nervous Every Sunday mornin' I'm in service Prayin' for forgiveness And tryin' to find an exit out the business I know the Lord is lookin' at me But yet and still it's hard for me to feel happy I often drift while I drive Havin' fatal thoughts of suicide BANG and get it over with And then I'm worry-free, but that's nonsense I got a little boy to look after And if I died then my child would be a bastard I had a woman down with me But to me it seems like she was down to get me She helped me out in this But to me she was just another chick Now she's back with her mother Now I'm realizing that I love her Now I'm feelin' lonely My mind is playin' tricks on me [Verse 4: Bushwick Bill] This year Halloween fell on a weekend Me and Geto Boys are trick-or-treatin' Robbin' little kids for bags Till an old man got behind our rags So we speeded up the pace Took a look back, and he was right before our face He'd be in for a squabble no doubt So I swung and and tried to take him out He was goin' down, we planned But this wasn't no ordinary man He stood about six or seven feet Now, that's the creep I'd be seein' in my sleep So we triple-teamed on him Droppin' them 5th ward B's on him The more I swung the more blood flew Then he disappeared and my boys disappeared too Then I felt just like a fiend It wasn't even close to Halloween It was dark as death on the streets My hands were all bloody from punchings on the concrete Man homie, My mind is playin' tricks on me
I don't really know this because I was born in the wrong generation but my dad raise me with 80s and 90s but I like this better because it has meaning and a dope beat and at my school they bring mini speakers and bump trash rap and I hate it and I show my friends this song and they love it and say they would rather have this instead of there's:Like👍 if u agree
@@JJ-ip1ju Do you know what Gold Medal Flour is? LISTEN CLOSELY AND CAREFULLY. It is DEFINITELY "Gold Medal Flour", How are you hearing cornmeal flour? What is cornmeal flour? There's flour and there's cornmeal. There is no cornmeal flour!
kenterminatedbygoogle That of course but also create a radio edit version that is re recorded with totally new lyrics that still gives off the wanted meaning.
Because RapALot was its own thing and it was headed by J. Prince. Plus, Geto Boys didn't have to compromise and they never did so they're not bought sold and paid for. They all live here in Houston. Real stand up guys.
when they made clean versions back then, they actually replaced the cuss words with real words, let you know they cussed because they wanted to, not because they had to. like these rappers today the only words they know are cuss words.
And I feel just like a fiend it wasn't close to Halloween. It's dark as hell out on the streets my hands were bloody for punching on the concrete aww man homey my minds playing tricks on me
