Matikamata - Part 1 (Dhammapada Verse 35)
In this video, Matikamata learns from the visiting monks and practices the Dhamma.
Wat San Fran is proud to present stories taken from the Jatakas, Dhammapada, and Buddhist history. These stories often use past rebirth stories (Jatakas) to reveal the connection between past and present, and illustrate the relationship between cause and effect.
Check out the playlist #AnimatedBuddhistStories by Wat San Fran to explore the complete series.

The world "proper" used in the video comes from the word "sappaya" which can also be translated as "suitable." Suitable foods are subjective to each person. For example, certain foods would be unsuitable if the person had an aversion to it, could not digest it, was allergic to it, or had other issues with it. The purpose of having suitable food, clothing, residence, and medicine is so that the individual is not stressed out about finding and proccuring these items. If those things are sappaya for them, they are satisfied and comfortable to a degree, then their body and mind can fully focus on the Dhamma.

The Narrator, Katie, is a very talented voice artist. She literally brings every story to life and narrates it as though the events are happening right in front of your eyes. Watsanfran is certainly a blessed Dharma Centre to have such a great team of individuals who bring life to the Dharma through their narration, editing and animation. Greatly appreciate everyone involved in this and looking forward to the upcoming parts of this beautiful Jataka. 🙏

Wow, I have never been taught to contemplate the 32 parts of the body using Anicca, Dukkha, Anatta and I tried to do this with every part of the body, each of the part is indeed impermanent, suffering and cannot be controlled at all 😮 and what is really impressive about this story is that it showed that food was an obstruction for the monks' enlightenment, this video is so insightful. Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu Anumodana for the amazing story 🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕

Contemplating body means, feeling the natural bodily sensation, like itching, sweating...etc, (could be anything) with knowing that they are impermanent, each sensation no matter the cause arise to end (anicca), slowly the mind starts to detached from body and later at a higher stage the same to do with mind....ultimately one gets detached from mind and matter, attends Nirvana.

You have not mentioned another story of one monk in this video Perhaps you could include it in the next video. That way, viewers will have something new to look forward to.

Another translation would be "suitable" food. For example, if the food was spicy, it might be proper, but not suitable to a monk who could not easy spicy. Having suitable and/or proper foods is important.

i've been practicing buddhism for about three months now autodidactically. one thing that always perlexed me about arahants and anagamis as well as those super powers is - how is a person supposed to understand that they reached that level and it is not just a delusion? i've reached enlightenment twice except both times were psychosis i know that proper practice and guidance can minimize that risk, but how am i supposed to trust my mind to understand that fact at all
