Speaking from personal experience, catching an object you've thrown isn't all that difficult except under unusual circumstances. I imagine Rodney makes sure no unusual circumstances are in play before filming intros.
Just bought this for my son’s upcoming birthday this Sunday. I was hoping you would be doing a How to Play video as you always do an excellent job explaining the game rules. I’ll be rewatching with my husband and my, by then, 14 year old son on Sunday. My son will inevitably be saying: Please tell me we’re watching Rodney explain how to play the game. We’re all fans of yours. Thanks!
Exactly 2 years later to the date I'm watching this video getting ready to play with my boys! My son saved up some money and bought the game yesterday. Thanks for a helpful video as always Rodney!
Been four years since you posted this but this Christmas morning my 10 year old son received this and this video is a miracle worker for him (first language is Japanese and second is English) as it was so easy to follow. Thank you, good sir!
In the thumbnail video preview, the block of blocks looked so much like the video game, with the pristine red table under it, that I didn't think it was real for a moment until Rodney's hand provided some context.
Thanks for posting this video. My son just got this game for Christmas and reading through the rules seemed a bit overwhelming. This video simplified things a great deal.
You'll find that covered here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OnblaPBorjY.htmlfeature=shared&t=388 - basically nothing happens. You failed at the attack (and wasted the action).
This was really clear explanation, thank you. My 6 and 8 year olds understood it in first game. Many games to come, maybe with some house rules or add-ons. By the way, it is easy to mark depleted stack of tiles with white same size paper tile.
This video is EXCELLENT and incredibly helpful so that I was able to play the game with my son. Thank you for the detailed breakdown and friendly narration to walk us through the game 🤗
I am here in the question section for the same reason. I would suggest Ravensburger to upgrade thisnin the next edition. When you reach 50 points you get a 50 coin or sometning (1x50, 2x50...)
Great flip! I couldn’t even count them! You are definitely the best game teacher out there! This looks like a great family game. I don’t know if It will make our list, but I am enjoying learning more about the games coming out. I saw you have two more videos out. I am disappointed that Catan Starfarers is a three person game. The Table Talk has been really great, and I think we would love it, I will watch the other videos as I can, i am down to one week before I move to Oklahoma, so I have a lot going on! Thanks Rodney! I really love your enthusiastic approach to teaching. I am going to try and start a gaming club at the Air Force base where I am going to be working. I think it will be great, since it is a small town, and there are not a lot of things to do there.
Him: If the xp is tied, then the most blocks count as a win! If that's still a tie, you share the victory! Me: wait, SHARE!?!? why not rock, paper, scissors!? Or spin the bottle!? Or draw straws!? WHY SHARE THE WIN!?!?!?!?!?
I used to feel that way about ties in games, but now I actually think it's better for players to share the victory when there is a tie, rather than come up with something "extra" to give one player the win. If you and I play a game for 90 minutes and make all kinds of choices, and each of us play very well, and then it comes out in a perfect tie... then having one person win because of some extra made-up thing doesn't feel like the winner really "earned" it. You know what I mean? That said, if you really don't like ties, than you can always agree with the other player tha if there is a tie, you'll just play rock-paper-scissors.
Thanks a lot! I was givin this board game and thought the instructual directions were quite confusing this helped me understand how to work the mechanics!
You’re awesome! I spent last night reading instructions for the Godzilla game to my kids just to get confused blank stares. We watched you video and started playing with no issues.
This is really the best kind of feedback, thank you. Rule books can be quite confusing at times and it's my hope that the videos can lower the barrier to entry and get you to the fun of playing a little quicker (and with confidence). Glad to hear it was helpful!
I've always wondered how this game is played, I was wanting to get it for my 8 year old but it does seem a little complicated to understand right away. It's very unique and very true to the actual game though 🙂
I was almost regretting having purchased this game for $4 at a thrift store after I read the directions 😂 thankfully we thought to look it up on RU-vid the next day instead and yours is the first video that popped up. I don’t understand Minecraft enough to play on Xbox but I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game with my kids:)
Board games have come a long way in the last few years, and we’re fortunate to see many games with a popular IP, also being paired with clever designs now.
@WatchItPlayed Nice video which helped clear up some of the rules for me; however, I think one of the rules mentioned is slightly incorrect. At 4:15 it shows the weapon tokens being revealed alongside the tile card stacks. In the rule book it states that just the card stacks around your position are revealed after moving 0, 1 or 2 spaces, but it does not say to reveal the weapon tokens. So I think weapon tokens should only be revealed when a player chooses the action to take a weapon (probably revealed to that player only or maybe to all players, the rule book does not seem to be clear about this).
Unfortunately, sometimes the rules aren't clear, or have errors. I work directly with the publisher to clarify these sorts of things, and this is a case where the video is more up to date than the rule book.
I'm not sure if we're playing wrong but out of 3 players one player had over 50 exp at the end of round 2 and by the end of the game we all had over 50 exp.. is this a common issue having players get over 50exp points?
Hi Maddie, it's hard to say, as I'm not sure if you're group is playing the rules correctly or not. Perhaps everyone should watch the video and make sure they all understand the rules correctly?
We have pieces missing in our box 🙄🙄🙄 we have 4 colourless weapon cards missing, and 3 missing from the different coloured weapons cards, what are the cards that we are mean to have so we can make some make shift cards in oder to pay the game, as ravensburger don't reply to emails, thanks!
This was awesome! The rules that followed the gane were terrible. But we played it after the video, and we all had super much fun! My kids are 6 and 7, and we all enjoyed it 😊
Hi Liam, I shot this long enough ago I don't remember what I say in the video, but it I don't indicate that something automatically flips, than it doesn't.
It's been a little while since I shot this, but if I remember correctly the scoring tokens have a 50 on the other side, so once you pass 50, you flip the token over to show you banked 50 points and then keep going around the track again. There's no limit to how many points you can score, so if you go over 100, just keep track of that on a piece of paper, if you have to.
You bank those 50 points and keep going around the track again. There is no limit to how many points you can score, so don't worry if the track runs out.
Just wanted to say thank you for posting this video. I saw this game in Hamley's a couple of weeks ago and I have been considering getting it for the kids for Christmas. I still haven't decided 🙈🤣 but this video certainly helps make that choice. Cheers!!
If you choose 2 blocks to build, can you reuse those blocks again when building something that require 3 or 4 different material? You said: once you have built something put the blocks in the box. What do you mean by that?
Hey there, when you spend a block on something, you return it to the game box - that means it is no longer in the game for you to spend it again later.
Hello, this tutorial is so well made. You're the perfect host and I learned everything I needed to know to play the game (even corner cases). Thank you so much for making this from me and my boys.
I'm thinking of buying this for my daughters for Christmas. They are only 7 and 8 but I believe they can play this. There's an expansion pack for this as well. It looks fun and I know they'll like this one. I have already ordered the card game of mine craft
Everything was making sense (and sounds like fun!) until you said this: "Its even possible that a player through collecting blocks will take the last oes from more than one layer at a time; you'll score all the related layers one after the other in their usual order"...??? I listened to this four times, and can't make sense of it--how does one "score the related layers one after the other in their usual order"?
If you can let me know which part of that was causing the confusion, I'll do what I can to help. I'll see if I can guess at it though. See here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OnblaPBorjY.html I take a grey cube off the stack, removing the last cube of that layer. But if you keep watching I mention that it's possible a person could clear more than one layer at a time (I then remove a green cube, which is the last cube of a different layer). In this way, during a single players turn, they've cleared the last cubes from 2 different layers. So this means, when there turn is over, you now have to perform two scoring rounds. One for the first layer that was removed and another for the second layer that was cleared. And then you go back to players taking normal turns again. Does that help?
If you choose to stay in place does that mean you still get 2 actions (ie. taking blocks and building) or does "staying in place" count as an action of exploring the overworld by "moving 0, 1, or 2 spaces"?
If you choose to take the Explore action, and don't want to move, then you stay put and flip the facedown tiles at your location. However, if you're already where you want to be at the start of the turn, you don't have to Explore in order to "stay put". You can instead just do 2 different actions (taking blocks or building, for example). Hope that helps!
Thank you Rodney for this video. I was pretty curious about this game and your video helped a lot in highlighting the game elements and mechanics. I think I will eventually get this, seems a pretty simple but clever and fun game.
Box instructions were sufficient, but this video is exceptional. I really enjoyed watching this and refreshing the rules in my head (it has been months since I've played and I am about to bust it out for game night tomorrow).
Great guide, got us up and running much faster than by just reading the instructions aloud around our table. One quick question: can you trade in a mob on the turn that you win it (action 1 collect 2 blocks, action 2 fight and win mob - can you instantly trade it in on that move for another action)?
