1:00 JavaScript is a completely different programming language from Java. JavaScript doesn’t use Log4j, Java does. (JavaScript was uninvolved in this vulnerability, JavaScript uses log4js)
This exploit was so crazy, every company who got hit was terrified of the news getting out about it because of consumer confidence so only released information after it. Every friend I have who works in IT was going berserk back then.
I work in IT but was months behind on comms at the time and I don't watch the news or whatever it is people use to learn about recent things. So the CEO asked me about log4j expecting me to have read something or at least heard of it. I promise I don't aim to disappoint, it just happens naturally.
You should really have someone who knows about these vulnerabilities to review your scripts. Mixing up JavaScript and Java at 1:00 is a pretty big error. There's a few others too, "hooking into the victims IP address" is complete nonsense. Disrupt's production value is amazing, just wish the writing was up to par with the editing.
10:55 the language here is arabic,it might have been in syria or some other country in the levantine region,as a person from the levantine region, that sounds like a levantine accent.
incredible video as always, constantly struggling to decide whether what i'm seeing is real or cgi insane amount of effort put into these videos, and i always learn so much from them hope the team is well
so glad to see this channel slowly growing, congratulations on a million! i wasn't there when that happened also really glad one of my favourite games was covered lol
Man, the amount of work you put in is nuts and frankly each video keeps improving in quality when i think you can't do better than you just did. Thanks for makin these vids :)
how in the frick do you make the mistake of confusing JAVA with JAVASCRIPT, as a channel with a MILLION subs... that's like comparing a tube, and youtube
Imagine if some of these hackers actually had ill will, I mean the guy just wanted to know the truth about aliens, imagine if he wanted to cause serious damage. The U.S got lucky.
Gary got so insanely lucky he didnt get extradited and got zero charges... the american legal system would've torn him a new one and he'd be locked away for a long time.
@@joyu2105 Why’s that? Personally, I find that often people who are smart and curious can get really stupid in the name of finding answers. Him claiming it was about UFOs could very much be true
@@sourgreendolly7685 Why lock away the best when you can get them to work for you? Plus I'm sure they sweetened up the deal behind doors - work for us and live a free life, or we throw you behind bars and you can never touch a computer again
I remember hearing people using the exploit to fix the exploit. Like, it'd run code that fixed the issue and sent a message saying "Hey, you were hit by the LOG4J exploit. We have used this to fix it on your computer, be careful out there." or something like that.
I'm not done watching the video, but being an active player WHILE the exploit was going on was scary as all hell - especially as someone who's not very computer savvy. Glad to see it covered here!
SUPRISE! I am the funniest YTer evah!!!! Just kidding, it was no surprise. Everybody knew already. HAHAHHAHA!!!! That was an amazing joke (it was real talk though). WAWAWAWAWA!!!! Good afternoon, dear dre
Indeed, of all the channels I follow this is far and away the most visually striking, well edited and intricately animated of them all. My compliments to the animation dept.
One of my favorite things about disrupt is how it feels so futuristic & modern at the same time. Even the Old Spice ad (and some mattress ad I happened to get as a mid-roll) seemed to take on the same affect. I love it so much & tbh if that’s the future of advertisements I’m not mad 🤷🏽♂️
Sadly had to unsubscribe and won't be watching anymore content. Don't use fans as an ATM for your financial difficulties and wrap it up as an investment.
He refunded the money to everyone and deleted the videos which is the best thing he could of done even tho he did a good thing the thing that he tried to pull off a scam should not be forgotten.
I remember when the Log4j stuff was happening, people were panicking that they would lose thousands of hours of progress on their accounts. I remember myself believing it wasn’t going to be that bad and was mostly fear mongering. How naive I was.
Ok, just to clarify for any non programmers out there: *Java and JavaScript are two COMPLETELY different things,* okay? Edit: Hi there, ReBuff from 2023 here, idk why I was so rude here, yes these two are in fact completely unrelated languages, but I'm not salty about it
That confused me about this video. He seemed to use the two interchangeably. Minecraft is written in Java and the web is mostly written in JavaScript. Which one was affected by this? I heard some of my webdev friends talking about it, so assumed it was affecting JavaScript. So how did it affect Minecraft?
The amount of Easter Eggs here, from Simon from the Yogscast dwarf minecraft skin, to your skin in the minecraft sections - with the fact that this channel started as a minecraft channel... Sends me through so many memories
As someone working for the IT infrastructure at a major airport company during Log4Shell.. I can tell you how much fun it was; it was hell. Luckily it all calmed down by now.
Came for the deadliest Minecraft hack, stayed for the story of the Pentagon hack to find evidence of UFOs, that succeeded, done by a fellow with Aspergers. I love how the episode ended on a total gem! So fascinating, thank you so much for these videos.
fuck. the amount of effort that goes into each episode blows me away. this should not be on RU-vid, honestly, this should be a high-production TV show or something, genuinely incredible content
You all should be damn proud of the content you put out. These videos are better in quality than what's on TV these days and the stories are always interesting and thought provoking. Damn good job team
I already knew all about the log4j vuln and got sick of hearing about it when it just went viral, but the DisrupTV editing still kept me hooked throughout the entire video
The amount of work in this channel is amazing. One of the most produced, interesting and beautiful to watch. Sadly i can't support this content, economic problems are a normal thing here in Argentina, but hopefully soon i can help and promote this creations and the team behind. Keep it up
As a python programmer, seeing python code in a video about java 40 seconds in was kinda surprising Edit: Ono this man mistook java for javascript Great video doe
Remove the 'gaming' word from the quote You think what happened on the gaming world was scary? On security and enterprise department it was a bloodshed It was 3 months I basically didn't slept because of log4j, and to this day I still feel the consequences of that EDIT: For context, I am a full time software and security engineer
Hey, sorry to be that guy but you made a critical error at 1:03. Java and Javascript are VERY different things. Hope you can fix! It's a common mistake, but avoiding further confusion is good.
Actually seeing a video about a topic i know about not know Java from Javascript makes me question what other things in other videos were wrong that i didn't know either
Wait wait wait....you're telling me this channel goes over computer viruses and programming, but doesn't realize Java and JavaScript are not the same?? Starting to question the integrity of these videos...
I will never be able to explain how good these are. Even if nobody will read this comment, it's just insane. And how you add the music titles you play in the background? Or how interesting the story is told? I always, always look forward to these. And rewatch them sometimes. I can't even explain it.
I really love the editing and storytelling of the videos here, but with as many subscribers as you have, the videos seem to get released without expert consultation/review. You're doing your viewers a disservice here. (I'm assuming the lack of consult/review as the mistakes tend to be very obvious to folks in the field.) At the very least followup with corrections.
@@kennymccormick929 What he's saying is Java uses Log4j, and JavaScript uses Log4js, they are super different, it's like saying Car is the same as Cartoon because they sound similar
Actually wtf. Those videos are insanely well made, beyond entertaining and full of useful information well delivered to the audience. Crazy to see so much effort in production, animations, video editing, sound and script. Congratulations, well done.
The editing is unreal, but the presentation is very disjointed and hard to follow at times. I appreciate the effort put into the production, but the constant tangents and rapidly changing presentation makes it hard to watch
He refunded the money to everyone and deleted the videos which is the best thing he could of done even tho he did a good thing the thing that he tried to pull off a scam should not be forgotten.
I actually really love when you bounce around timelines, and tell all the stories at the same time. It makes it feel like I'm really watching TV. The production quality on your videos insane, and I always enjoy your content.
The part about JavaScript caught me off guard, maybe pin a comment explaining how Java and JavaScript aren't the same language and it was only Java that was involved in the exploit.
