I have to laugh at some of the people I see claiming a target is 8", 10" ect on some videos when the pinpointer is still half way above the dirt. It seems many don't realize an actual 8" coin is deep in the wild. 9" and over is extremely deep IMO. Especially if slightly or fully on edge! Nice comparison! That's a lot of work to do what you're doing here! TC.

Nice job Brother. Most people have no idea the effort one has to put in to make these types of videos! I find it interesting the Deus was the one having issues on a couple iron targets. Thanks man! To me, its easier to tell iron on the Deus than the Manticore. Its just super easy on the Deus due to the rough scratchy sound on iron vs smooth ramp up/down on non-ferrous. I had a few tricky iron falses on the manticore when running AT HC. Once I switched over to AT General, I didn't get as much falsing. I still have a lot of learning to do on the Manticore for sure.

We’ll done. Not many people take the time and effort to compare machines on un-dug targets out in the field. And I also experience quite a bit of iron falsing when using deep HC on the deus 2. Thank you for taking the time to make this video! I have a few comments and observations, about the machines. FYI = With Minelab products a Recovery Speed of: 4 = 2.5 on the Deus 2. 3 = 2 on the Deus 2. 2 = 1 on the Deus 2. 1 = 0.5 on the Deus 2. 0 = 0 on the Deus 2. Did you Noise Cancel or (long press Noise Cancel) after you changed the Mode, Recovery Speed or Sensitivity? I didn't see you do it, maybe you did it off camera? In the operators manual it states to Noise cancel after any one of these change. Did you run Manual Ground Balance or Tracking Ground Balance? If you're looking for an edge for depth, It's understood that you'll get greater depth with Manual Ground Balance (MGB). And MGB as often as you think it's necessary. I understand the difficulty of filming with one hand and detecting in the other. Maybe in the future you can Jerry-rig a camera mount on the detector? Seeing the Manticore Target Trace and hearing your opinion at the same time is a helpful learning tool for us. Do you think it's fair to say that the Deus II false positive on two ferrous targets, as shown in your video? Or would you call it something else? NASA-Tom: The depth indicator is a (capacity meter) of the target/targets. What the chevrons really 'feel like' to me (in the real-World). 1-chevron depth = 1" deep (surface) 2-chevrons depth = 2" 3-chevrons depth = 3" 4-chevrons depth = 6" 5-chevrons depth = 9"
@MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA Год назад
Thanks PBR! I'm still a total newbie with the Manticore, so your info on how the recovery speeds compare is very useful. Next time I'm out there, I'll try lowering it to 2 so that its equal to the 1 on the Deus 2. I did do a long noise cancel when I switched modes as I was spending some time hunting in different modes, though I didn't noise cancel when I was just briefly switching over to demonstrate different modes on camera. I manually ground balanced, though off camera. I never really use tracking on any of my detectors. I wasn't sure exactly what the depth of each chevron was equal to, so I just assumed it was about the same as my old Equinox. I sure wish the Manticore had a numeric read out like the CTX. Not a huge deal, but the numbers on the 3030 sure were nice! As for the false positives on the Deus 2, I think it all depends on the user. I wouldn't have dug those particular signals on either machine. One was very scratchy to my ears, and the other just didn't repeat. That's not to say that I haven't dug plenty of falsing iron myself with all of my detectors. I've dug lots of them, and still do occasionally. I think Kenny was probably just listening for those really deep signals and maybe tried to convince himself that a couple sounded better than they actually did. I do the same thing often. Thanks for your comment!

@@MetalDetectingNWGA If you conduct Air-Test in the future or for your self, set Manual Ground Balance to '0'. As it's the same setting that you would use on zero mineralized soil like a completely dry sandy beach. Take a large sheet of sheet metal and test how far back you can detect it. That would be the minimum dry sand depth. Maybe a little extrem but you get the idea. I can detect my refrigerator almost ~2 feet away with my Fisher F-Pulse pinpointer! I've come up with a ground balance hack using a very small piece of brass. It makes this very sensitive pinpointer tame. It wont trigger on a clad quarter until it's about roughly ~0.75 inches away.

Appreciate all the time you took to compare deep signals with CTX, D2, and Manticore. I have a question for you after watching your vid. I love the ML flutey sound of deep silver. I used a Minelab Explorer for almost 10 yrs and was very familiar with the conductive flutey tones of deep targets….The sound profile you had set up on your manticore (Depth) just didn’t speak to me ( sounded harsh with no tonal pitch change based on conductivity of target. It reminded me of my PI machine I use at my local beaches). I prefer to listen to conductive tone audio profiles, and can usually tell if I have a deep target based on the strength of the conductive targets along with the depth gauge, but I usually can tell a “deepy” without needing to see the depth indicator. Did you choose that audio profile of the manticore to make it sound similar to your D2 audio profile? Is there some advantage to setting the manticore with that Depth audio profile instead of conductive tones? Keep the vids coming! 👍🏼
@MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA Год назад
Hey Dan! Being a former Etrac & CTX user myself, I'm also a big fan of those flutey conductive Minelab tones. When running a pattern that accepts a wide range of ID's, those conductive tones make it super easy to tell what you likely have beneath your coil by tone alone. On this particular hunt, I'm using a very tight cherry picking pattern which only accepts copper pennies and up, along with a small window for nickels. At this location targets tend to run deep, so being able to quickly spot those deeper targets (by pitch) becomes more useful than hearing the conductivity, since I'm only cherry picking such a narrow range anyway. I'll definitely be using the Manticore's "All Tones" modes when using a more open disc pattern. On the Deus 2, I use Pitch tones almost exclusively. Love how descriptive the audio is on the D2. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! HH!

I wonder if the Manticore would detect a 10lb stack of silver bullion in a pvc pipe about 12-15 inches underground? Is the signal stronger if there’s a lot of pure metal or does depth cancel regardless of how much is there? I’ve never seen this question addressed. 🤷‍♂️
@MetalDetectingNWGA
@MetalDetectingNWGA 4 месяца назад
I would think so. The larger the target, the stronger the signal at depth. The Manticore is capable of hitting a single quarter sized coin at a foot in mild soil, so something that large should be easy. Of course, if the soil is highly mineralized or there's a lot of iron/junk around the target, that'll make a difference.

@@pamphstrigkas6327 hello! Wow, that’s a tough one. The amount of depth you can get from a metal detector depends greatly on the mineralization level of your soil. I don’t know what kind of soil you have in Greece, but 30” deep (80cm) is asking a lot from any VLF metal detector. You might be better off looking into a PI machine for something like that. I’m not able to offer much advice on those as I lack experience with them, but it would be worth looking into for that target scenario.

People say the Nox 800 has the edge on deep silver over the D2 so maybe we are just buying new machines because they are new toys. And people are reporting the Nox 800 is beating the Manticore on the wet beaches too. I have 2 Nox 800s and can’t say my D2 is better or deeper with any scenario I have tried and the D2 has proven less deep than the Nox in similar comparisons on real digs I have done comparisons on. I use the D2 mostly because it is quite a bit lighter than the Nox for long digs.@@MetalDetectingNWGA

@@oldplucker1 I don't have any experience beach hunting, but in my soil I found the D2 with the 9" coil to be about equal or slightly deeper than my Nox 800 and CTX with 11" coil. Seeing how Kenny's 11" coil performed, I think its at least and inch or two deeper than the D2 with the 9" coil. At most of the places I hunt, every one of these machines are plenty deep. The Nox 800 still holds its own very well IMHO. I love the light weight, descripted tones and improved ID on the D2.

@@MetalDetectingNWGA In the soil I detect on grass the Nox is an inch or two deeper than the D2 but not many people have taken the time to set the Nox up correctly for the conditions. The Legend has Screen Freezing problems I am told which would annoy me so much. so is out for me. So the D2 comes out with me not for depth but for being lighter and allowing me to end the day with some energy left after 7 to 8 hours detecting. However when I need depth the Nox is there to take over., especially with the larger coils. But the Nox 11” beats the D2 11” on the soils in the UK I detect on. Most digs here do not require great depth anyway because ancient finds are often within 6 inches of the surface due to ploughing.

You need to ground balance the Manticore for best depth and target ID. After ever mode change or after any recovery speed or frequency change you need to re-ground balance. Also you may want to set ferrous limits to 0, because in mineralisation deep coins will be "pulled down" in the lower ferrous range and with your settings not be found.

If you haven’t already seen it, check out my video titled deep and iffy coin signals. It shows some examples of how the 2D map can be useful for showing good targets mixed with iron or other junk.
