Hi, my name is Merrill Kazanjian. New York City is an amazing place to go metal detecting. We have lots of parks, colonial history and great beaches for beach detecting. I have gone to all five boroughs of New York City To Metal Detect and beyond. I also currently own 19 metal detectors. I want to have the best and I want to help you choose the best as well. Minelab is all about moving forward and everytime they bring out a detector it's always better then the previous whether by a little or alot it's always better then the last. The Manticore will definitely surprise alot of people and will certainly produce the goods. The company that brings out a detector that actually gives you the perfect picture on screen at good depth is going to be absolute king. Until that day we'll keep comparing. Cheers. Another great vid Merrill.

I continue watching your channel because of your knowledge of how to teach. Sure there are a lot of detecting channels where detectorist’s try to get across an opinion or instructions but learning and then teaching is a skill which you possess, this is where your profession pays off in your detecting channel. Again thank you for your time.

I started detecting 35 years ago, and all this new technology in detectors is very overwhelming to me, not get me wrong, it has changed for the good , especially the weight of the machines and performance, I'm out of the manticore race , but I'm down to the legend or Ws6 master , and your French had me rolling that was great Merrill lol.

My thoughts exactly. We have to remember that all current detectors work with frequencies regardless whether they are single or multiple. When we get to the next stage which COULD be ground radar and frequency together so we can distinguish between metal types, i.e., bronze, silver, gold, etc, then we are stuck with pretty similar detectors if you think about it.

Spot on! It isn't gonna be a self driving detector, just sit back and collect the treasure. The one thing I saw with this, that stood out above the equinox, was the 2D target ID. I'm interested, but I'm expecting a detector that's quite comparable to my equinox 800.

Great video Merrill. My experience with both the Nox 800 and the Deus 2 is like you said, a touch more depth with the XP however the VDI at depth is what makes me dig or not and I think I get a clearer picture with the Deus than I do with the Nox . I’ve dug noticeably less trash with the Deus than with the Nox once I got used to it. I do think I’m better with the Nox only because I’ve used the 600 and 800 for years but like you said, the XP has so much potential once you fine tune it to your liking. I’m curious to see how the manticore does over all. Many detectorists are pre- ordering and I think they’ll be disappointed because their find quality won’t change too much. My buddy has one pre ordered and he’s an absolute beast with the Nox so we will soon see. Great job brother👍🏻

Too right, talking to a dealer yesterday and he had a costomer ring up and complain that he hadn't found anything. Hadn't made the connection that you have to swing it over a target for it to beep. If there's nothing there then it won't beep.

A couple of the videos bring up some interesting features. One (by True Vikings) talked about the negative (-)99 to 0 iron VDI scale. Then another (by Miners Den Australia) pointed out that with the 2D screen, you have Fe iron on top and F2 iron on the bottom (or maybe reversed). If you have an iron coin, you can see which iron type it falls under (Fe or F2), then go into that setting, and “open” the section where the coin hits, so that the coin comes through with a diggable tone. I think that where the notching is done, is where the -99 to 0 iron VDIs come in.

maybe you have heard that there are a few supply chain issues and this weird thing called rampant inflation that is occurring all over the globe?!?!? maybe...just perhaps you might also have seen that the US $$ is spiking massively against almost every currency on the planet as a result of the FEDs actions and numerous other variables...and that minelab is positioning this item VS the D2 which is also $1599

@kennethisaac3799 Год назад
If the Manticore can edge out the D2 in overall performance and solve all the issues the Nox has then I say it will be a winner. The biggest advantage the Manticore will have is the 2D screen if it works as well as it should. We will all have to wait til it gets into the hands of guys like you to see how good it really is.

Thanks Merrill for putting some realistic perspective on the Manticore and not relying on the marketing hype. I know you will give it a thorough honest review when you obtain one, but I think some people are hoping this new detector will do everything but dig the items out of the ground! Everyone will still have to 'learn' the detector and as we've seen in the past, the more tech, the more learning that is required! I think I'll do more research before I update. I've noticed an increase of 'nox 800's' being posted for sale as the availability of the manticore nears.

Good video. The Nox was so good Phil’s parents named him after it! 😂 other companies have caught up. The Nox is so good at what it does that you can’t expect a huge jump in performance. The beast does improve on many things and that 2D screen is exciting. I can’t wait to put it up against my Equinox 800 to really gauge what the beast really is capable of! You’re correct people need to lower there expectations and you’ll probably be happy with a really solid metal detector if you want to pay the price. Will it destroy the Equinox? Probably not but do the others? Maybe slightly but the Nox can still hang with the best. IMO. Seems now there are so many detectors at so many price points. Lots of options. Seems the D2 and Manticore are more marketed for the true enthusiasts. Hopefully we see the Nox series drop a little in price opening the door for more people to a great detector. Funny with the French translation 😂
@discovermetaldetecting
@discovermetaldetecting Год назад
.....a great discussion! As an Equinox owner, is the Manticore going to find me more? The fact of the matter is that even someone with a vastly inferior detector will find more if they go out everyday than someone who only goes out once a week! 👍
@SandBoy408
@SandBoy408 Год назад
This is true...but if the manticore will eliminate bottlecaps better than the equinox (sometimes they sound 100% non ferrous) you may find more than the equinox for shure. With just one feature...imagine with the rest.

The key factors here is two things..information, and performance. The new Manticore is going to give you more information, that is a fact. It will be on the user to learn to decipher this "more" information on what to dig, and what not to dig. On the performance side of things, I think it will have a slight edge on the Nox 800, but still not quite as powerful as the XP Deus2. That's my current opinion. Happy digging and stay blessed my friends 😎

Ahh! yes, the comparisons that the Francies made between these Metal Detectors, I find, for the money the NOX 600 is tuff to beat! I am hard to convince just by what people say, and some trick of the light, I have to be shown, and you Merrill have shown me that with the price difference and what you wind-up with, the NOX 600 gets the nod. On the other hand, the XP Deas would be nice to own but! is a bit higher in price. So, the score right now is the NOX 600 70% to the XP Deas 30% and there is still some game remaining, it's not over yet. But as for the price of the Manticore, game over man, too rich$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for my blood. Thank you Merrill for sharing, I'll be watching, Great channel. Signed, Greg the Egg.

Merrill, there is one basic rule of measuring: If you rise up the accuracy of measuring twice, the price of the measuring rises ten times. I don`t like Minelab so much, but if they rose up the depth some 5 % and they rose the price 20 %, it quite equals this basic rule of measuring. And metal detector is a measuring device itself.

I haven't bought a new detector for years and I don't seem to be doing any worse than anyone else I know. There also comes a point where you have to ask yourself "do I really want to dig that deep?" I also thought that coil on the Manticore looked suspiciously bigger than the one on the Deus ll.

I’ve used the nox and D1 for 5 years and now D2. The D2 is 2” or more deeper than the nox in my soil in NC. Where the D1 and D2 really shines is in iron loaded sites. Me and my buddy have a particular colonial site that is full of heavy iron and nails that we’ve hunted with the equinox until we can no longer get any signals out of the area. After the D2 came out we took another machines back there and after several trips were still digging artifacts out of the ground. Old buttons coins etc.. don’t get me wrong the Nox is a great machine but I sold mine a while ago. My time is valuable and I will not be swinging something that puts me at a disadvantage when I have a better machine! Just my personal experience happy hunting👍🏼

Couldn’t have said it any better, Merrill. I’m sure there will be instances where the MLM offers better performance than anything else on the market. I use a Deus II 9” and an Apex for all of my hunting. There are places I prefer to use the Apex over the Deus for multiple reasons, even though the Deus has is superior in most machine characteristics. I feel the Apex has superior ergonomics and the wireless Z-Lynk is superior to the Deus wireless Pin pointer connection/operation. The Deus is deeper and faster, but at a lot of sites, deeper and faster doesn’t matter. We’ll have to watch the reviews on the MLM and see how it stacks up against the ‘Nox and it’s competition.

I want a Manticore! As a shallow water hunter, I've found the most gold with Excaliburs by far! I try all new machines and BBS is a gold magnet! I'll reluctantly mention how many pieces of gold found in 1 10 day Caribbean trip, because you wouldn't believe me.... WAY North of 200 pieces 18K. Using an Excalibur. The 3030, the Equinox not even close! Nor the CZ21 or Garrett ATX. Believe it or not, the Garrett Infinium did pretty darn good! I miss that detector. I've not been on a trip since COVID, but tried in my Test Garden The Ledgend and sold it. Nice machine, but I think the Deus 2 is better? So far I've kept the 2. I like it, but wonder about having to charge control and coil constantly on trips? I question using the Bone phones while wading? Will out of water ambient noise distract me? I did buy water phones for it. I also find the antenna an obvious pain and so far no one has answered, 1, in shallow water from ankle deep to neck-plus hunt patterns, which plug do I use... the red or black? Keep in mind 3 Equinox and 2 3030 flooded on me. Would the Deus flood after hours in shallow surf, using black plug? Would it blow up in warm Caribbean Temps, using the red plug? 2, I'm guessing in shallow saltwater one would have to use Dive Mode. How Dumbed-Down is Dive? Not to mention settings are lost with each powering down. I suppose none of this matters much, if it out-hunts the old technology Excal? I'm thinking the Manticore might be better in surf than Deus? But it too has a surf mode, most likely less sensitive too? I would actually just stick with Excals, only the lure of small detectors for travel keeps calling! On trips I have to take 2 of everything as back-ups. 2 detectors, 2 scoops... once 1 scoop was stolen. Good thing I brought 2... and so on, as weight is a concern with air travel these days. I used to travel with 2 Excals. Then went to an Excal and an Infinium. Both heavy machines. Traveling with 2 Deus or 2 Manticore seems attractive. Perhaps one of each? That's why I need to try a Manticore. Last, the 2 D really worked well zeroing in on rings with 3030. Manticore has that!

Hi Jon, here is my take. The sad reality is there are only so many old coins in any particular site. And old coins do not fall into the earth anymore. I think the Nox got me a lot my Deus 1 couldn't reach depth wise, but now those coins and relics are gone too. I'm not sure any given technology will bring any of my sites back to life as I hammered them pretty good. The key is simply new permissions. I walked into my latest new permission yesterday and had 4 King George coppers and a half Reale by noon. 1/2-acre plot in a colonial town. New permission tops new detector every time.

Having sent this question to Minelab and STILL waiting for any sort of reply since the Manticore (broke wind), I will ask for your opinion. How well does the Manticore (in gold mode) handle hot rocks compared to the Nox800 and SDC2300 during gold prospecting? Minelab seems to advertise the Manticore as a treasure only wand.

I ordered the manticore but I have not received it yet. The gold mode on the equinox from what I’ve heard is amateur compared to a machine like the GPX 6000.

Manticore is $2500Au & GPX 6000 is just under $6400Au, the 6000 had better be 2.5x better at everything. I bet it isn't. Thanks for the reply, PI may be the way to go in hot rock Oz.

Brother, as you well know since I spent an evening with you in the dark of my car talking about it, my original go to was the CTX-3030 until you swayed me into the Deus II. When the Manticore was announced, I bought. I think it’s going to be interesting to see just how far we HAVE come since the 3030. I hope you’ll do that comparison. It’ll put teeth behind what you’re saying here. As for me? I still think my 3030 is deeper than the Deus II, just, as you’ll remember me saying this, slower to recover, which slows my swing speed… we shall see dear friend, we shall see. My best to the rest up there with you. Virginia soon.
@harrysurtees8710
@harrysurtees8710 Год назад
I've heard only good things about the 3030 and I tried one on for a while. The owner had just got it, and lets say, it found the eight inch silver dime my NOX 800 found, but it was new for him and he had not worked on a custom program yet. It was heavy, but I was amazed how well it was balanced. I am finding 8 - 10 inch silver dimes and maybe a little deeper with my Deus II. I hear California dirt is hard to find deep coins, but that does not seem true with the Deus II. I love mine, but, I have my Manticore on back order 😁

Two topics that I've not seen addressed yet on any RU-vid channels concerning the Manticore are Topic #1: How does a single bimetal coin show up on the visual ID? Would it potentially look like two separate targets, considering they give off multiple tones and TID numbers? How does the visual ID screen account for the iron in that type of coin? I think it's going to give a false two target image, the same way holding a nail and coin together displays. Topic # 2: Similarly, I'm curious how falsing iron will look on the VID display. If falsing iron can trick detectors by giving good target ID numbers and tones, then couldn't it cause the visual ID screen to falsely display it as such as well?

I have 2 Nox’s and a D2. The D2 is great on the beach away from EMI. But I see people starting to use the D2 in Mono due to the EMI problem on land which defeats the point of buying it over the D1. Also the Nox suffers much less from EMI and is clearer and deeper on most of the land I detect on. The Legend has not got near to the Nox on depth on small hammered coins in real world tests. Also the clock on the D2 goes wildly out of time. And often fails to respond to button presses despite making a confirmation beep. In many group dig scenarios most modern detectors will do well but when the finds are not coming the Nox comes to the rescue.

I disagree. I am a coin shooter and the Deus II has found a lot of silver coins the NOX has missed. Rarely has EMI affected my Deus II. I'm in California.

nox 800 about 800.00, Manticore 1600.00 , Deus 2 1600.00 ,that is about 800.00 for another inch maybe 2 inches(which is debatable ) and now you can buy a legend for around 549.00 without bluetooth phones,which would put you paying around 1051.00 for maybe 1or 2 inches and still at the end of the day you have to get the coil over the target to find it , go on the beach with the machine that you think is the best and let the other 3 follow you and everytime your best machine hits a target ,see if the other 3 will hit it ,out of 7 days I would bet it would be 100% ,Minelab has dangled the bait for the manticore and people are getting on the list like it is a cure for cancer,some can drive a Ford and some have to have a Tesla they both do the same thing (get you from point A to point B), going to be a lot of people wishing they had their ole Nox800 back.
