How car companies manage to sell you a £40,000 car with a touch screen worse than a £100 phone will always blow my mind. How is that acceptable in a £40,000 car when it controls EVERYTHING
@@Owen- Looks good, but as mat showed in the video, it's quite laggy which I think is what he's complaining about. And I agree. Slow touch screens in cars is stupid when they cost so much. A £100 smart phone is genuinely a smoother experience than many cars infotainment screens
Well done BMW, you have finally managed to kill every part of what the Mini was designed and built for. The size, buying the John Cooper name only, (they can't even respect that Coopers always had WHITE roofs), and now even the price is a joke. BMW calling this a Mini is a disgrace of the corporate world. Progress?? If costing people off the roads s your mission....yes. This car has never been more than a terrible facsimile.
Fair. Of course it would have been better if Honda (or someone else) had bought Austin Rover (and even brought Jaguar back into the fold from Ford too) instead of British Aerospace and then BMW and then SAIC and others. *BUT* As long as the factory still exists and keeps people in work, that's what matters, no? The Longbridge plant might be gone and the Honda Swindon plant is now gone, but it's good that at least *some* British Leyland factories are still going, surely (be it MINI Oxford or Jaguar Land Rover Solihull & Wolverhampton and some of the supply chain factories)? 🙂 If Honda owned MINI, then perhaps MINI could be a Kei car based on the Honda N-One similar to the cutesy Suzuki Lapin. But would people actually buy a 660cc or 1000cc pint-sized Mini Cooper in this day and age? I'm not sure. There isn't viewed to be a market for other Kei cars in the UK and they don't meet UK crash or emissions regulations unfortunately. The increase in size of the R53 MINI was partly due to meeting crash regulations and adding crumple zones, though further size increases since then are indeed unfortunate.
@@cs_044The latest generation doesn’t have visible exhausts, even on the combustion version, so it’ll be even more challenging deciphering what version it is 😂. Does look like the full fat JCW will randomly have one centre exhaust though
@@edward92128 Yeah, I work for BMW/Mini so I see them a lot, it's the same on the new F70 1 series as well, I don't really like the fact they are going for apparently a "more fluid and sleek design" - Having a Cooper S not have it's dual exit exhausts for the first time in god knows how long is not something I like.. And then on the electric countryman, the only real difference is the yellow S badge and the grille to the ICE one
It's no different than what BMW are doing with M cars where it's just a sporty trim level. Same as S Line, ST Line, R Line, N Line and so on. It tarnishes the sheen of the full fat performance models, but it shifts cars off dealer lots. Just like SUVs.
So…no hard buttons for the fan or temp… but one for a change in driving profile… which will be used precisely 5 times and then never touched again…perhaps I’m not the target audience for this..
I always thought Minis were over-styled crappy cars…until I owned one. Yes it was small, yes it was impractical, yes it had all these silly little switches….but I LOVED THAT CAR. It was by far more fun to drive that car than any other car I have owned (including a Volvo S60R and an Infiniti M35). I miss my Mini.
And dont forget factory that builds new mini electric is GWM, yes new electric mini cooper comes from China, so for half of price you can get mini which is GWM Ora(Funkycat). Think about this….
The interior is what the brits would call naff. I hate, absolute hate, how Tesla has managed to convince the average buyer that a huge screen in the middle of the dash is cool and luxury, it's much cheaper to make and design, it's such a huge cost cutting thing and it's now the replacement for a normal cluster and physical damn buttons
I have one and its fantastic, you really dont need 1000s of buttons the ac controlls are nicly positioned and easy to hit without looking, yes there will be cost savings on the interior but the petrol one is still a cheap new car
you have to consider it relative to other cars nowadays. Cars are just getting bigger and bigger due to market demand and safety regulations. Its still relatively small.

@@skribbleme Exactly. I remember people moaning about the size of the R50 when it launched.
I like how the E MINI has progressed and improved since the previous model. However I'm keeping my 2004 JCW, which in the 20 years has now become a classic.
I have a 2013 mini highgate (ACTUAL stick shift manual) when I was a kid, I DREAMED of having a mini because they stood out so much and had sooo much character. Now, with the newer minis, I don’t even look at them. I took my mini to have it serviced a few months ago and the salesman tried to suggest me getting into a new one… needless to say, the old school mini enthusiast let him know that minis won’t even be here in ten years due to them going mainstream, and not caring about the actual mini enthusiasts out there
The original Mini Cooper S (from just around 1970) was a great and extremely fun car to drive. I'd much rather have like 3 of those than a single one of these new ones. The difference I would use for various add-ons to make them even more fun. They always looked like they were bigger on the inside than on the outside.
I really don’t like the new Mini. They stripped it of all its class, beauty and timelessness. Instead they’ve used cheaper materials and underdeveloped tech. If the Mini would still cost 17.000€ it might have been justifiable, but at a price point of over 40k it’s just outrageous.
Can probably pick this up for $12k in 3 years. Also EV’s cause colon cancer surge- it’s due to the EMF radiation emitted from the battery back which you sit on top of and marinate in.
Yup the battery probably cost around 30-40% of the car cost. While your car depreciate 10% a year 😂 in 6 years it would be in a junk yard with 0% value. EV car is a scam, people just don't realize it. They make EV so you can buy new car every 5-6 Years rather than you keep the car for 10-20 Years. They can't get enough profit if your car can last forever
@@jerrywu633724 years and counting on my Jaguar. 250 kmh. Runs on homenade ethanol and is dead quiet at measured 62 db at 90 kmh. And yes. Handles extremely well and is so fun to drive. Just oil change and serviceable parts like brakes etc. 410000 km so far. 😊
I wish reviews would stop saying negative things about cars that aren't 5 doors or sit 5 people and takes large baby seats, with large boots etc. Believe it or not not everyone is looking for a big car that fits a family of 12 and can take 25 carry-on cases in the boot, doesn't mean it's a less practical car or less of a product, it just means it is aimed at a different market that's all and should be compared to others in the same market. I hate that cars are classed as not good unless they get bigger and bigger with each regeneration.
Agreed I miss the 3 door sporty cars..always looked much better than boring 5 doors. but sadly yet again the manufacturers only cared about saving money rather than actually pleasing the minority..
@WetPig I get what u are saying, but some folks are happy to spend 42k on a small luxury car with all the bells and whistles. Look how successful the original BMW 1 series, the Audi A1 and the 2nd Gen Mini were. There is a market for what people perceive to be luxury small cars. Sadly all of them got bigger and bigger and are pretty much the size of 1 or 2 classes above now. Some people don't have kids or have a need for bigger cars, but like to have nice things. Smaller does always need to be cheaper plastics or not fancy kit etc.
@@jamesmccormack3229 I agree, but most people do not like that they are being sold a Chinese EV for 100% markup essentially, as a UK Brand. This is what they actually despise. I drive a shitbox Renault Twingo, which is super small and practical but not luxurious.
the front grill kinda looks like a huge BMW grill. it is expensive, but what makes a car, a car, must be present. motor, batteries, windows, airbags, breaks, seats.... what lacks is 200 kilos of metal to make it longer and bigger in the boot. but two doors don't save that much money on a car build. like in a house, you still need a kitchen, and baths.... adding some square metres for an empty, no plumbing, or special water treatment, to call a big living room, doesn't cost much extra. Smaller might even be more expensive because you must package it better for serviceability, crash safety and so on. went to check one out yesterday, it'a a good little car. Great review, love the jokes, some energy efficiency numbers would be awesome, I can't seem to find a review with that in mind.
The original Mini was a packaging masterpiece. This car is big on the outside, and small on the inside.
2 месяца назад
Just like everything else in the same sector. The original mini could make maximum use of its diminutive size due to lack of safety equipment and sound deadening. Different times though the comparison still seems to be prevalent.
No, just look at the boot space comparisons. And some of the alternatives have three seats in the back, of which two could have adults sitting there ok.
If there is the demand for compact cars that tuffanco3745 imples, the UK should create a category specifically for Kei cars (that reciprocates Japanese regulations) so they can be exempt from the crash safety regulations they don't meet. Cars like the Suzuki Spacia and Honda N-Box are VERY efficiently package at the largest possible volume within the Kei car box!
True, but many of us car fans wouldn't be seen dead in one. They are either driven at 20mph or by complete muppets. I already have white goods in my Kitchen, don't need one on my drive.
True, but the model 3 is cheap because it's built cheap. I had one for about 18 months as a company car, and it rattled, was loud on the highway, the seats absolutely suck, the trim all fell apart. They're trash if you want something longterm. The mini will last.
The Honda Civic Si used the K24 "All Motor" engine in its models from 2012 to 2015. These engines were obviously 2400cc, some offering up to 206hp with a 6 speed manual transmission. If I remember correctly was around $27,000 US
these manufacturers will put giant screens in their cars only for the experience to feel like using a budget smartphone from 2012 it's unacceptable. So laggy choppy and slow
And vents. I don't give a shit if a vent is real or not, frankly. If theres a hole it's a vent, if there isn't, it's just part of the bodywork design and no different from any other swoop , badge or fold. Still, any video that Yianni isn't in, walking around rolling his shoulders like a boxer while making doe eyes at the camera is still a bonus, lol
@@Future-Classic-Cars Lol, the cool thing about having freedom of speech is we don't care what the British want us to say (the UK and Her territories don't even have legal free speech, what a joke).
Just collected ours. Electric works financially and we've had cooper s versions in the past. Love this car. It's fun.. not rapid but progressive mid-range. Lots of tech that we didn't expect so some decent bmw tech. Love the sounds. It does search for traction if you just gun it, even in the dry. We used to own an I3 which felts similar. The starling, I would say, is extremely direct. One thing that is pants is the cuo holders... matt is bang on ... they're large.

@@shadyxnk2040electric cars aren't real cars 😅 If you have plenty of money to throw away on an electric car, go ahead. But the smart people will stay away from electric cars.
They've probably used the same chisel as for the new M2. But at least you won't notice any look change if you crash it to the wall. I have been driving Countryman Cooper 4x4 for some time. Great to drive but there was just enough space for two adults, toddler and a pack of nappies. It had blind spots like a Challenger tank. As well as the price, just do not have that long barrel among the options. Have been drinking oil as the tank, too. After 60,000 km...🤔 Since than I am not interested in Minis any more. Great to drive, otherwise just nightmare. So a proper BMW. 😂
Wow, surprised that one has to spend 42,000 pounds for it in the UK. We only have the top model JCW (218hp w/ 54.2kWh battery capacity) available in Hong Kong and is selling at equivalent to 31,200 pounds (early bird at 28,100 pounds). Though we waive certain percentage on electric car's first registration tax and so that could be why it is cheaper here. Driving the F56 SE and quite like it actually. Great city car in a small city where range anxiety is minimal.
Yup the public have realised they were all getting scammed by buying an EV that no one wants on the 2nd hand market and insurance companies charging ridiculous prices to insure them because they don't want too. Noticed even the governments don't push them any more now we don't buy them and are plotting their next scam to empty our pockets as this one didn't work!
Small, impractical, uncomfortable, overweight, overpriced, not even terribly good looking, but it has a few new gimmicks, so just go for it. Best car ever! 🤦
A Mini is indeed small, and for some owners, not at all impractical. It’s not good for haul furniture or seven people, but that is why we have a variety of vehicles. As for uncomfortable, have you driven the new model? Finally, regarding the look of the car, well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I like the styling but other than that why the hell would you choose it over a Model 3. The Model 3 is now (finally) decently built, is faster, much much more practical, goes further, is more comfortable, has a better infotainment, can comfortably seat 5 people, has a large boot and has access to the Tesla supercharger network. Mini has lost its mind.
@@MegaNarwal meh, I rented a model 3 for a week a couple of months ago. It took 5 minutes for the central display as the only display to feel normal. Not once did I wish for a HUD.
1:15 The more basic electric versions look even cleaner and iconic in its design (the petrol version is more like a deep facelift)! Such an improvement! I really like it, even though the price is hard to swallow…
The classic trim looks like an economy car with those rims, I wonder if they made them terrible so people would at least go for the middle trim. In the US for the same starting price, we get the equivalent of the exclusive for the same starting price as the classic in the UK £22,665/$28,950. Pretty much comes with everything too. Pano roof, heated seats and wheel, wireless charger, ambient lighting, parking sensors, and HUD all standard.
If you roughly calculate how much money you will spend on petrol every year and how long you intend to keep the car, the petrol Mini may work out to be cheaper. Example: if we spend £1,200 yearly and intend to keep the car for 7 years = £8,400 then if you put that on top of the 23k petrol model it becomes 31.4k which can get you a top spec model and still be cheaper than the electric model. There are also costs of servicing and MOTs but those can be netted off with the cost of electricity which is probably even higher.
You can change the headlights design? Wow! I'm sold! I'll buy one now 😂. Actually no... this is one of the most pointless gimmicks every fitted in a car, just like Audi has started doing as well. Once you choose a design you are probably not care anymore after 2 weeks of owning the car 🤣. I suppose they have to justify their more and more their inflated price every year that goes by.
Delivered a base model petrol yesterday and was somewhat underwhelmed. It was an auto, which didn't help, but the rear suspension was thumping away and the touch surfaces were scratchy and unpleasant. The new Clio is so much nicer, aesthetically and dynamically.
I dont know why they would put the works name on the car when its lacking performance compared to pretty average electric cars today. I dont think putting the name on an electric car is the problem because its proven more often than not today that EV's can be bat shit crazy quick with sporty handling (ioniq 5 N for example), the problem is its no quicker than a JCW mini from 2008 and in 2008 that performance was impressive but you can get electric cars today more competitive on price, far more practical and even much heavier smashing this thing. It should have been dual motor or rear wheel drive at least. I quite like the look of the new renault 5 and im hoping when they inevitably do a hot version they just go nuts with it like hyundai do these days with their N cars, make it a modern day sleeper on the road and capture what made the old 5 turbo cool for its time.
This isn't the JCW, it's the bodykit that comes on the Sport trim. Been the same for a while now, you could have the F56 or F55 in Cooper (not S) trim with the JCW bodykit, badges, wheels, and seats. No different to M-Sport on a BMW. The real JCW electric will be out later.
@@olliewebbuk ahh i see, i was not aware you could get a JCW bodykit as an option... that makes it even worse to be honest lol. The M sport example i guess is a good one, but... M sport is different from M cars as far as model differentiation goes i believe? If you go to BMW today you can buy an M-sport model but it comes below the M cars. JCW was always the hotter version of the cooper S. To be able to buy a mini now that is effectively a fake JCW is nasty and tarnishes what JCW was all about... would be like buying a BMW 2 series and being able to have it specced from factory with M badges, thats trash. But i get what you are saying, just hate that.

For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I'll be happy that I have the kislux as my travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
I think the petrol version is a much better car. It weighs half a ton less and is much less expensive whilst retaining at least some of the OG mini character
I think thats a bit of a large claim. There have been quite a few unfortunate uses of names over the years. This is in essence still a small (still small compared to other things on the road - check out the new M5 for instance) 4 seater where things like the Mustang went from being a cool coupe to an electric suv. Other "retro" designs have also been largely just remodelled versions of other cars so the Fiat 500 was largely just a rebodied Panda, the VW Beetle was a Golf in a frock and so on. For all their faults Mini are still one of the better brands so far as sticking to their origins. Remember even Porsche and Ferrari now make suv's.
I really like how this new Mini looks, but having a JCW appearance pack that looks almost exactly like a full fat JCW package on a non JCW model is a crime
Why aren't you reviewing a standard level mini. A review of the top of the range model is not very helpful, especially as it would be crazy to pay £42,000.
She looks at me and says "It's a Mini?" 🤨😅 So I have to tell her that "It's not about displacement it's all about the handling." Sometimes I feel like I should just start compensating and get a Ram 2500.
Yes the color of the kislux is beautiful and it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
I had the previous generation MINI with HUD and when I bought polarised sunglasses I couldn’t read it. So unless they’ve completely changed the way it works I would say try it first
The first Mini I've liked since the first new mini 20 years ago. I'd consider one of those for sure. Glad they toned down the union jacks all over it compared to the previous gen too.
Putting almost all controls and information on the screen means that when that screen fails you loose everything, and I guess it will cost hugely. Another point is safety with touch screens. I think the next NCAP tests will not granted cars with touch screens with fife stars. I have F56 1.5 lit petrol engine with manual gearshift, and I love it. It looks that the materials used in older models are much better than this.
I sat in an identical one and actually liked it more than I did. Wasn't a fan of the look of the exterior or interior from photos but looks better in person. But i can think of many better ways of spending 40k
£42k and still a laggy shite display/entertainment system, how are these car companies still getting away with not just putting in a slightly faster processor which literally costs £50-60 more
I've the petrol version of this latest update is much more responsive. The car is overall a joy so many things missed in the reveiw tbh. If your thinking about it test one.
I'm gonna say this right now the car world has gone mad. These prices are just ridiculous and simply cannot continue.. people are gonna stop buying sooner than later and these companies are gonna go bankrupt. Which is fine we need a reset of this entire industry anyway.
I have a feeling the prices are so high across the board because they've had to fund the development of all these new EV's that nobody in their right mind wants. they're a scam.
